Everyone originally thought that no matter what, Qu Qiuming would take at least a day or two to imagine things in his head before confessing honestly. But unexpectedly, before two hours had even passed, the disciple in charge of watching over him came rushing in, saying that Qu Qiuming was dying.

Everyone who was still busy with the registration exams looked dumbfounded, silently turning to look at Yun Jiao, who was marking papers beside them.

Wasn’t it just to scare him a little, not something serious? How did he suddenly become like this?

Yun Jiao was also stunned for a moment and asked directly, “What happened to him?”

“He kept saying his body hurt, and it got worse and worse. He’s already fainted from the pain once,” the disciple answered honestly.

Everyone exchanged even more confused looks.

“Could he be pretending?” the old man said suspiciously. After all, that guy surnamed Qu was not a good person.

“Let’s go take a look!” Yun Jiao didn’t hesitate, immediately following the reporting disciple out. The others quickly followed behind.

Sure enough, before they even reached Qu Qiuming’s room, they could already hear his heart-wrenching screams echoing through the back hall — so loud that every guest room could hear clearly.

When they entered, they saw him clutching his stomach in agony, rolling all over the floor. The room was a mess, everything around him had been knocked over. His face twisted in pain, drenched in sweat, and he even tried to slam his head against the wall — completely unlike someone pretending.

Everyone froze for a moment. Qu Qiuming sensed their presence and crawled toward them.

His face, covered in blood from hitting it earlier, twisted with fear as he pleaded, “Save me! Please, save me! I… I’ll tell you everything, I—ah!”

He had just spoken a couple of words before another wave of pain overwhelmed him, forcing him to slam his head again uncontrollably.

Yun Jiao’s heart sank. She instinctively said to the others, “Hold him down! Don’t let him hurt himself.”

Changping, also a spiritual healer, reacted first and rushed forward to pull Qu Qiuming away from the wall. But Qu Qiuming pushed him aside with surprising strength, so they still hadn’t managed to restrain him. Fortunately, the old man nearby quickly pulled out a paralyzing talisman and froze him in place.

“Save… save me! It hurts… it hurts so much! Ah!”

Qu Qiuming couldn’t move, but he shouted even louder, his face contorted in pain.

Changping finally took out a silver needle and temporarily blocked his pain points. His expression eased a little.

Yun Jiao stepped forward to check his pulse carefully. After a while, a flicker of surprise flashed through her eyes — this situation…

“Fellow Daoist Yun, what’s going on with him all of a sudden?” Master Xu asked instinctively.

Yun Jiao thought for a moment before replying, “Hmm… an unexpected situation.”

Master Xu froze. Remembering Yun Jiao’s earlier plan, he didn’t ask further.

But Changping beside them subconsciously checked Qu Qiuming’s pulse as well — and immediately froze in surprise.

“Huh?” He looked at Qu Qiuming with disbelief. How could this be…

Qu Qiuming, however, had completely withered. The sudden affliction seemed to have drained all his vitality. His arrogance, pride, and selfishness were gone, replaced by weakness and fear. He stared straight at Yun Jiao, eyes filled with desperation, clutching at his last hope.

“Save me… save me! I don’t want to die!”

“Weren’t you just saying you knew medicine?” the old man couldn’t help but retort.

Qu Qiuming’s face turned even paler, his eyes widening with fear as he frantically denied it.

“No! I don’t! I’m just an ordinary farmer! I never studied medicine! I was lying to you all before — I made it all up!”

Everyone’s faces darkened simultaneously. Though it was within expectations, it was still infuriating.

“Then how did you remove the yin energy and demonic energy from those people before?”

“I… I don’t know,” he said anxiously, trying to shake his head but unable to move, his voice trembling and on the verge of crying.

“I just placed my hands on them, and they got better on their own. I don’t know what yin or demonic energy is — really! I have no idea what’s happening!”

Everyone was stunned by this unexpected answer.

Master Xu stepped forward and asked, “You’ve always had this ability?”

He had never heard of anyone who could automatically extract yin or demonic energy from others. Even spirits and demons couldn’t reverse such an infection once it entered a person.

“No, this ability started about three months ago.” The desperation to survive made Qu Qiuming spill everything clearly.

“I remember one night, I accidentally fell into the deep ditch at the entrance of the village. After that, I suddenly had this ability. I… I was terrified too.”

“You got that power just from falling into a ditch?” Master Xu still couldn’t believe it. “Nothing else happened?”

“I think I also… might have fallen onto someone,” he added uncertainly.

“Someone?” everyone was startled.

“I don’t know. I fainted right after. But when I woke up the next morning, I was the only one in the ditch. Maybe it was just my imagination.”

The others didn’t think so. Master Xu suddenly realized something, stepped forward, and quickly formed a revealing seal, pressing it against Qu Qiuming’s chest.

Sure enough, a golden talisman mark appeared on his forehead the next instant.

“This is…” everyone was shocked — he really had been marked. But when they tried to look closer, the seal flashed once and vanished immediately, leaving no trace to track.

At that moment, Qu Qiuming felt something tearing away from his body. He panicked even more.

“What’s happening to me?”

Seeing the others not responding, his expression grew more frantic. He looked at Yun Jiao and begged,

“I told you everything I know, please save me… I don’t want to die! I really didn’t know the yin and demonic energy would get absorbed into me. You can drive it out again, right? You can save me, can’t you?”

Yun Jiao glanced at him again. Judging from his condition, what he said was probably true.

He didn’t even know someone had placed a seal on him, and clearly had no idea where his power came from. She exchanged a look with the others, then turned to leave.

“Wait!” Qu Qiuming shouted anxiously. “You promised to save me! I told you everything — please, save me!”

Yun Jiao pointed to Changping, who was still applying needles beside him.

“Isn’t he already saving you?”

“What?” Qu Qiuming was stunned.

“Your condition is a bit complicated,” Yun Jiao explained calmly. “It can’t be fixed quickly — it needs slow treatment.”

After thinking for a moment, she added, “Don’t worry, you won’t die.”

Then she turned and walked out, followed by all the sect masters who had just entered.

“…”

It wasn’t until they had walked some distance that Master Xu asked in a low voice,

“Fellow Daoist Yun, did that yin and demonic energy really enter his body?”

Yun Jiao gave him a sidelong glance. “Didn’t I say I was just bluffing him?”

“Then what was that just now…?” He looked bewildered. The man had looked like he was in excruciating pain!

“Oh,” Yun Jiao replied casually. “He just ate something bad.”

“…” What?

“Didn’t Little Butterfly say she gathered a lot of spiritual herbs for him? He probably thought they were all precious and ate every single one!”

As a result, more than ten kinds of medicinal properties, still undigested, clashed violently inside him — then got triggered by the demonic energy from the hunter and the butterfly demon earlier. No wonder his insides were in chaos. It’d be strange if it didn’t hurt.

So really — words can be random, but medicine should never be eaten recklessly!

Everyone: “…”

There’s actually such a thing?!
