Chapter 788: Chapter 350: The Black Briefcase (Part 2)

In terms of search, it may not be the best, but when it comes to bomb disposal and attack, it’s a top-notch expert.

"What happened after you parted ways with us? Can you tell me about it?"

At this moment, a voice inquired from behind.

Gu Ji turned around; it was Li Yanan.

After rescuing teammates twice, she was covered in bloody grime, so she had just washed up and changed clothes.

"Of course."

So, Gu Ji went on to recount in detail the battles that took place after they parted ways.

Only after hearing the last sentence did Li Yanan dare to take a deep breath, looking at him with astonishment in her eyes. "I can’t believe you actually defeated three mercenaries on your own."

"It had some luck involved."

"Even so, you’re amazing! Among us, you’re probably the only one who can directly face off with those armed squads. Without your command in this operation, I might have long since..."

At the end, Li Yanan’s lips pressed tightly together, as if trying to suppress an inner pain, losing her usual cold elegance and vitality.

Gu Ji knew she was probably reminded of the teammates from the Mr. Qi who had died before.

"Train more regularly, and engage in real combat often."

This sentence was meant both for Li Yanan and for himself.

To outsiders, Gu Ji reacted decisively, fighting three at once.

But only he knew the real situation that unfolded.

Without the various bonuses from the glory checkpoint, Gu Ji might not have completed it so smoothly.

For instance, when facing off with Cohen, if there had been no "Hacker Invasion," he could have used Stinger missiles to interfere from the side, but it would have increased the risk of getting hurt.

"You’re right; I really should visit your Dragon and Tiger Assault Team to learn and see how you train on a daily basis!"

Li Yanan pursed her lips, dismissing stray thoughts. "I’ll request permission from our captain right away."

"Hey? Wait..."

Gu Ji didn’t expect she would really go through with it, but it was too late to stop her from making the call.

Afternoon.

Gao Bo was the first to return from the hospital.

Among the three SWAT members, he was the least injured. After having shrapnel removed and stitches done at the hospital, he hurried back, worried that Gu Ji would be short-handed.

Fortunately, neither the PM Company nor the SSS organization caused any further trouble for the time being.

p.m.

Having been busy all day, Yasen finally had a moment to change clothes. Picking up his phone, he saw numerous messages.

There were ones sent through the internal network of 7472 and missed calls with texts.

Without exception, all were from that guy, Saflo Baron.

"This kid, why is he in such a rush!"

Yasen couldn’t help but mutter, though he understood. Entrusting such a valuable item to someone he’d only met twice would make anyone nervous.

So, he grabbed his car keys, turned off the office lights, and walked out the front door of the police headquarters.

He came to a black special operations SUV.

"F***! Is this guy planning to run off?"

In the northern suburbs of Brasilia, Baron paced back and forth at the arranged location, checking his watch every so often.

To be honest, he was quite conflicted about handing the case over to Yasen.

On one hand, they had only met once, their cooperation wasn’t deep, unlike during the mission in Japan where he worked closely with Wa Xueming throughout.

On the other hand, Yasen was a Brazilian cop.

Although a retired freelance, he was still part of the Brazilian Government. With the Defense Department Research Institute’s stolen item, there was no guarantee he wouldn’t hand it over to the state for honors.

Thinking of this, Baron grew increasingly anxious, "What if this guy brings people to arrest me?"

Just as he was about to find a place to hide first.

Suddenly, headlights appeared at the junction ahead, and a black special operations SUV slowly parked by the roadside.

The car door opened, and Yasen, now in an outdoor casual outfit, walked to the side sliding door, "Get in, it’s in the car!"

"There’s no one else in the car, is there?"

Baron’s question almost made Yasen laugh out loud.

He straightforwardly opened the car door wider, "Why would I call anyone for this? If you don’t believe me, check it yourself!"

Baron craned his neck to look around and indeed found no one. However, the interior setup of the car piqued his curiosity.

The assault SUV’s rear and front driver sections were completely separated, and the entire cabin was covered with a metal resembling stainless steel, lined with various electronic instruments and equipment.

"This is a signal tracking car of the Federal Police; once the car door closes, the outside cannot detect any signal inside, and vice versa. Communication is only possible through the dedicated radio equipment onboard."

Knowing the significance of the briefcase and aware of a PM mole within the Federal Police and military’s Ministry of Defense, Yasen prepared this car specially.

"You’ve been very thorough in your considerations!"

"After all, we still don’t know what’s inside the case. If upon opening, it unintentionally triggers a signal and reveals our position, both of us would be dead tonight!"

Yasen answered calmly in response to Baron’s teasing.

Once the car door was closed.

Baron eagerly rubbed his hands, moving the black briefcase onto the metal table.

Since PM Mercenaries managed to steal it without being located by the military, it suggested the exterior of the case had long been compromised.

And indeed, it was true.

The briefcase wasn’t large, roughly the size of a 15-inch laptop, completely wrapped in black leather, and at the head was an electronic code lock. However, the LED screen for displaying numbers was already malfunctioning.

Baron placed his hands on the lock, swallowing hard.

"Should I open it?"

"Wait a second."

Yasen narrowed his eyes and drew his gun from his waist.

This immediate action startled Baron, making him back against the car side, drawing a Glock 19 from his waist and aiming at Yasen, "You! Are you betraying the organization?"

"F***! What the hell are you talking about! Put the gun down!"

Both trained professionals, Yasen instinctively almost fired when having a gun pointed at him, luckily controlling his trigger finger at the vital moment. "I drew my gun worried there might be something bizarre in the case so I could react immediately. If I intended to betray you, would I blatantly draw my gun in front of you?"

Baron, pondering a bit, realized the logic in Yasen’s reasoning.

He put his gun back at his waist, "Haven’t you watched too many movies? Where would any bizarre creatures come from!"

"Well, the Defense Department building hosts the Army, Navy, and Air Force headquarters. The stolen Pandya Caloyeras Research Institute is our military’s top-secret R&D department. Even the think tanks I know hold secrets from Brazil and many other countries!"

Upon hearing this.

Baron felt significantly more tense.

He often heard American netizens discussing conspiracy theories, like the US Army Fort Detrick Laboratory researching biochemical viruses.

With these thoughts, he hesitated to touch the case.

"Why are you standing there? Hurry up and open it!"

"After what you said, I’m a bit scared. What if it’s an alien facehugger that jumps onto my face?"

"..."

Yasen was momentarily stunned for a full second, "Then let me do it; you keep watch!"

Thus, the two switched roles.

Baron drew his gun, aiming at the case.

Yasen sat in front of the table, hands on the lock, taking a deep breath to calm his racing heart. With a click, the lock was released, and he slowly lifted the top half of the case.

Baron gulped nervously.

But upon seeing the contents, he was scared silly, his gun shaking up and down. "It’s bugs! It’s bugs!!"

"What bugs! Look more closely!"

Yasen’s shout finally brought Baron back to his senses.

Within the black plush lining of the case lay two mechanical objects resembling bugs, along with two vials, and tucked in the mesh lining on the other side was a small white booklet.

Yasen cautiously picked it up, reading the title on the cover:

"Holographic Projection Replicator..."
