Chapter 758: Chapter 338: Illusions Within Reality (Part 2)
The sound of shattering glass suddenly came from the neighboring living room, followed by the clatter of a coat rack hitting the ground.
The enemy sniper made a move!
Gu Ji immediately shouted.
"Ling Yousong!"
"It really is him, 13th floor, fourth window! Mr. Gu, you were right! Enemy sniper spotted!"
"Open fire immediately!"
"Pfft—!"
The two exchanged words at lightning speed, and as the final order was shouted out, a strange sound erupted from outside the building. It was the HK417 equipped with an ACC silencer, in Ling Yousong’s hands!
Unexpected yet inevitable.
Both sides were using silencers.
This was mainly due to the chaos and noise at the trade fair square; a slightly lower volume gunshot was hard to detect, not to mention that while silencers might not significantly reduce decibels, they effectively alter the sound.
As a result, from the start of the firefight until now, with only a shot fired from each side, those media people and tourists at the trade fair were still oblivious.
They were all absorbed in the excitement surrounding the Brazilian defense minister and the delegations from various countries.
"Enemy sniper eliminated!"
"Well done, quickly..."
Just as Gu Ji was about to offer praise, another "pfft" gunshot followed, "Where did the sound just come from? Who fired?"
"Mr. Gu, it was the sniper, I was almost hit!"
Ling Yousong responded while catching his breath.
"What! There are two snipers on the opposite side?"
Li Yaoguang was flabbergasted by the news, uncertain about whether to forcefully terminate the event and evacuate the two leaders immediately.
But Gu Ji ignored all that and kept repeating:
"Position! Position! I need the position!"
"In the third building diagonally across from me, there are two open windows, on the 7th floor and 11th floor!"
At this critical moment, Li Yanan, who had been silently observing, suddenly spoke up.
As a special ops sniper, the basic skill of distinguishing direction by sound was already mastered with ease.
"That’s enough, keep an eye on him! Team A, tighten the defense around the VIP core area; Gao Bo, lead Duci around to meet me, you have only three minutes!"
"Understood."
Being Gu Ji’s close brother for five years since college, Gao Bo naturally understood Gu Ji’s temperament.
The fact that such solemn words were spoken indicated they were on the brink of a crisis, with the possibility of descending into hell at any moment.
So, even though Gao Bo was a good 400 meters away from Gu Ji’s apartment, he was determined not to hold his brother back at this critical moment!
In the bedroom.
Gu Ji uttered a sentence, then rolled against the wall to the living room window ledge, grabbed the HK416 that fell to the ground with glass shards, and left without looking back.
He followed the stairs to the street,
looked at the white villa Li Yanan indicated, and roughly estimated the sniper’s blind spots before proceeding 200 meters in the opposite direction and crossing the street.
People and shopkeepers along the street saw Gu Ji with his desert-colored HK416 and stepped aside voluntarily.
Yet there was no overly panicked expression, as if they were accustomed to such happenings.
This also indicated the level of weapon and gun proliferation in Brazil.
Just as Gu Ji crossed the street, Gao Bo, slightly out of breath, caught up with Duci.
Mind you, they had both been through Qiu Junrong’s rigorous training in Jinbang, so Gao Bo’s breathlessness signified the effort it took him to come all this way.
"Duci, I’ve brought him over!"
"Prepare for armed combat."
Gu Ji lowered his left hand, beckoning slightly, and Duci promptly ran over from Gao Bo’s side, shook its head playfully, while Gao Bo pulled out his Glock 19 from his waist.
Since Duci had flown for 22 hours, Gu Ji worried that it wouldn’t adapt to the Brazilian environment, so he left it with Gao Bo to rest all day.
Judging by its current vigor, it seemed to have recovered well.
The two of them advanced along the walls of shops to the entrance of the white villa.
Before entering, Gu Ji first took a bullet from his pocket and let Duci sniff the gunpowder scent thoroughly.
The sniper had fired inside the room.
So the house was surely filled with the smell of gunpowder, a scent any moderately experienced cop could detect, but with enemies inside behind closed doors, only a dog with a keener sense of smell could help.
Duci excelled in smuggling checks, bomb detection, and drug searching.
After just one sniff, its ears shot up, and it licked its nose with a big tongue, seemingly priming itself for the upcoming task.
"We’re counting on you, Duci, go!"
"Woof!"
Duci barked a low growl and sprinted up the steps way faster than any human.
In the blink of an eye, it was on the second floor.
Yet it seemed confident in its nose, bypassing the second floor and hurriedly continued upstairs.
Once it reached the fifth floor, it began to slow down.
Savvy sniffing at both the left and right security doors on the stairwell.
Skipped the fifth, and the sixth.
Upon reaching the seventh floor, one of the locations reported by Li Yanan,
Gu Ji and Gao Bo pressed against the wall, index fingers ready on triggers.
But ultimately, Duci pivoted and leaped to the eighth-floor stairs.
"Focus on the 11th floor!"
Raising the alert for others, Gu Ji and Gao Bo breezed through ordinary residents until they reached midway up the 11th-floor stairway and began slowing down, pressing against the wall, inching towards their target.
Simultaneously, Duci had already slipped through to the door, taking a couple of sniffs and then sat obediently.
It must be here!
According to police dog training, unless in an assault or suppression mode, any time a police dog locates a target or explosive, it assumes a silent sitting position to signal the handler.
Otherwise, if it suddenly barks during an infiltration,
you might as well announce your presence!
Gu Ji formed a column with his left hand in front of his face, an SWAT tactical gesture that meant "sniper," placing an ear to the door to ensure no noise within, he then waved his arm up and down, signaling Gao Bo to crouch and pointing to the lock.
Gao Bo caught on immediately.
Technical breach, is it!
A small matter indeed!
He swiftly pulled a pick from his pocket; as a pointed special forces SWAT and breach specialist, Gao Bo had practiced both silent and forced entry techniques extensively.
Not to mention, foreign locks weren’t nearly as complex as domestic ones.
"Creak."
With a slight crisp sound, Gao Bo had successfully unlocked the security door in just over ten seconds, much to everyone’s surprise.
Gu Ji had Gao Bo count backward and took position by the doorframe.
Three, two, one!
Clatter!
As the door was thrown open, Gu Ji’s HK416 rifle immediately scanned the diagonal angle.
At the same moment, Duci squeezed through the door gap from beneath Gu Ji’s legs, dashing ahead into the right corner bedroom.
Even Gu Ji was taken aback by this sight.
Strictly speaking, this was his and Duci’s first real-life operation together.
He had never imagined this creature would be so fierce.
Seemingly startled by footsteps, the sniper in the bedroom turned to rise, only to have Duci suddenly emit a thunderous bark, frightening the foe to a jolt, mouth agape, lunging at the right hand’s wrist with its maw!
"Crunch!"
"Ah—!"
As the sniper screamed, Gu Ji had just completed his cornering tactic, aiming at the opponent’s head.
The adversary tried to reach for his gun, but Duci’s grip on his hand was unrelenting, using its weight to yank back, it toppled the foe to the floor.
Without hesitation, Gu Ji aimed the barrel, "Lie down now! Lay... rat-a-tat!"
A warning cry, as the long-haired man hastily dove a left hand into his jacket.
Erring on the side of caution, Gu Ji promptly pulled the trigger, taking him out.
"I’ve taken out the other sniper, Li Yanan, check if there are any other threats at the site."
"None, wait..."
"Mr. Gu! There’s a surveillance drone outside your window!"
