Chapter 278: Meeting Enemies In a Narrow Road
A total of five grey-robed assassins now completely surrounded Rhain’s group.
Four middle-stage Domain Masters.
And standing at the very forefront, radiating the pressure of a 7th-level Domain Master, was the leader.
Veydris.
The exact same man who had mercilessly pierced Rhain’s heart.
Rhain’s expression turned chillingly cold, the killing intent in his eyes practically materializing into physical blades as he stared at the leader.
Veydris looked at the completely healed, unmarred chest of the dark-robed youth.
"How?" Veydris asked, his voice full of confusion and chilling malice. "How did you survive that attack? Your heart was entirely obliterated."
Rhain’s lips curled into a ruthless sneer.
"I will tell it to you," Rhain replied coldly, "the day I pierce your heart with my own hands."
Rhain quickly analyzed the situation.
Four middle-stage Domain Masters, and one late-stage Domain Master.
The Royal Family had gone completely mad.
They did not take the ancient laws of Valdris City very seriously if it meant eradicating him.
Rhain turned his head slightly, looking at Commander Zorak.
"Can you save me alone from this line up, Commander?" Rhain asked casually.
Commander Zorak’s face was incredibly ugly.
He was an 8th-level Domain Master, yes, but protecting two burdens against a 7th-level expert and four middle-stage experts simultaneously was a nightmare.
He simply had not expected the Royal Family to be so blatant and brazen within Valdris City!
Veydris’s cold eyes shifted toward the muscular commander.
"Commander Zorak," Veydris spoke, directly calling out the Commander’s name.
Veydris raised his hand, his tone carrying the authority of the imperial throne.
"This is a direct order from the Emperor himself. We are here to execute a traitor to the dynasty. You should simply let go, or you will be severely punished by the Emperor for treason!"
Commander Zorak gritted his teeth, but ultimately remained silent.
The pressure of defying a direct imperial decree was immense, even for a subordinate of the Second Prince.
Seeing Zorak’s hesitation, Rhain chuckled dryly.
"What is it, Commander?" Rhain asked mockingly. "Are you planning to leave me like this, surrounded by these enemies?"
Zorak’s fists clenched tightly.
He knew that if Rhain died here, the Second Prince’s grand scheme to unify Valdris City would be completely ruined.
"I will obey the orders from the Prince," Zorak roared, his 8th-level Domain Master aura exploding to its peak. "I will save you!"
Veydris’s eyes turned instantly frostbitten.
"Fool," Veydris said coldly. "You cannot save him today."
Veydris waved his hand ruthlessly.
"I will hold Zorak for a while. You four, attack the boy at once! Kill him quickly!"
BOOM—!!!
Veydris exploded forward, his 7th-level Domain Master aura clashing violently against Zorak’s imposing might with a shockwave that destroyed the surrounding buildings.
At the exact same moment, the four middle-stage Domain Masters turned their murderous gazes entirely upon Rhain.
The assassin who had just traded blows with Rhain raised his blade, his eyes burning with malice.
"You have escaped twice from my hands," the assassin sneered, his killing intent locking the space around Rhain entirely. "I won’t let it happen the third time!"
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
The four middle-stage Domain Masters surged forward in unison.
Their overwhelming killing intent locked the surrounding space into a cage, completely sealing off any possible route of escape.
"Die!" the assassin roared, his eyes blazing with a venomous light.
RUMBLE—!!!
The fabric of space directly in front of Rhain warped.
Three figures materialized out of thin air like descending gods.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Three earth-shattering, late-stage Domain Master auras erupted simultaneously, crashing against the four assassins with the force of a collapsing mountain.
The sheer density of their spiritual pressure was so overwhelming that the stone avenue beneath them instantly pulverized into dust.
"Valdris Royal Academy Preceptors!" Veydris roared from a distance, his face twisting with fury as he fiercely clashed with Commander Zorak.
The Royal Court had meticulously tracked Rhain, waiting for the exact moment he stepped outside the Academy’s protection.
They hadn’t expected Dean Qaylus to brazenly dispatch three late-stage Domain Masters to act as the boy’s shadow escorts!
The leading Valdris Preceptor, an elderly man with piercing eyes, merely let out a disdainful snort.
With a casual sweep of his wide sleeves, a torrential ocean of profound essence materialized, crashing forward like a tidal wave.
BANG!
The attack effortlessly blasted two of the charging middle-stage assassins backward, sending them tumbling through the air as if they had struck a solid wall of steel.
Simultaneously, the second Valdris Preceptor drew a gleaming sword, intercepting the third assassin with a flurry of devastating slashes that immediately forced the royal executioner onto the defensive.
The third Valdris Preceptor stepped directly in front of the final assassin—the very man who had just traded blows with Rhain.
"You dare cause trouble in Valdris City?" the Preceptor sneered, his late-stage aura locking onto the assassin.
But before the Preceptor could unleash his attack, a chillingly calm voice interrupted him.
"Preceptor. He is my prey."
The Preceptor paused, turning his head in surprise.
Rhain walked forward, his dark grey eyes fixed entirely upon the trembling grey-robed assassin.
"Protect Lady Elara," Rhain spoke, without tearing his gaze away. "I will handle this man myself."
The Preceptor frowned deeply. "Are you certain? He is a middle-stage Domain Master! A single mistake will cost your life!"
Rhain didn’t bother answering with words.
BOOM—!!!
His aura exploded.
"Fifty percent of law comprehension...." Preceptor’s eyes narrowed.
Rhain was already lunging at the assassin.
Seeing the youth’s vigorous momentum, the Preceptor let out a resigned sigh.
He swiftly retreated, stepping firmly in front of Elara to shield her from the burnt or the battle.
’You want to fight me alone?" The assassin laughed furiously, "Did you forget our last battle so soon?"
"DOMAIN OF CRUSHING EARTH!"
The assassin roared, unleashing his full power.
A horrifying gravity crashed down upon the avenue.
The weight of the space instantly multiplied by a thousandfold.
"Origin Domain of Darkness."
WHOOSH—!!!
A pitch-black void swallowed the avenue.
With fifty percent comprehension of the supreme Law of Darkness, Rhain’s Domain was fundamentally different from their first encounter.
The moment Rhain was surrounded by his Domain, the crushing pressure of the opponent’s domain was instantly reduced.
’What???" The assassin shouted in alarm.
His Domain of Crushing Earth, which had previously pinned Rhain to the ground like a helpless insect during their first encounter, was now useless.
How long has it been since their last encounter?
Rhain didn’t give him a single second to recover.
Merging perfectly into his fifty-percent Origin Domain of Darkness, Rhain became completely invisible.
There was no sound, or presence of him anymore.
To the assassin, Rhain had simply ceased to exist.
He appeared directly behind the grey-robed man.
Void Fist. Second Form!
The assassin was a veteran who had crawled his way through mountains of corpses to reach the middle-stage of the Domain Master Realm.
Even completely blinded, and with his spiritual sense heavily restricted by the darkness, his life-and-death survival instincts kicked in.
Sensing a lethal threat from behind, he roared, forcefully swinging his blade while summoning thick, overlapping walls of condensed earth essence just as the spatially-transmitted dark punch detonated.
BOOM—!!!
The punch collided with the essence barrier.
A devastating shockwave ripped through the confined space, cracking their domains.
The assassin was pushed forward, spitting a mouthful of blood as the sheer kinetic force rattled his internal organs, but his veteran instincts had managed to block the fatal damage.
"Come out, you coward!" the assassin bellowed, his face twisting with rage and fear.
He swung his blade wildly in a wide arc.
"Mystic Grade Art - Earth-Shattering Spikes!"
Massive, razor-sharp pillars of heavy yellow rock erupted blindly from the ground in every direction, attempting to skewer anything within a hundred-foot radius.
But in the space of the Origin Domain of Darkness, he was just swinging against the air.
His physical vision was entirely useless, and his spiritual perception could barely extend a few inches past his own skin.
He was fighting like a blind man thrashing in the deep ocean.
Swoosh!
Another Void Fist Second Form struck him.
BANG!
The dark essence exploded against the assassin’s ribs, bypassing all of his defenses entirely.
And just like before, the essence-devouring properties of the Void Fist siphoned away his earth essence, dragging his foundational energy directly into Rhain’s body.
"Gah!" The assassin staggered, feeling his strength rapidly draining.
He swung his blade frantically toward the impact.
CLANG!
Rhain didn’t bother dodging this time.
He met the sweeping blade with a bare, dark-essence-coated fist.
The sheer, monstrous physical force of the Abyssal Sovereign Physique clashed head-on against the middle-stage Domain Master’s weapon.
The devastating impacts of their close-quarters battle rang out continuously.
BANG! CLANG! BOOM!
Shockwaves of essence battered against each other, creating explosions that shook the heavily fortified city around them.
Yet, despite his vastly superior cultivation, the assassin was drowning in sheer despair.
His senses were completely sealed. His domain was rendered useless.
Every single time he blocked a punch, his essence was mysteriously stolen.
Even as a mid stage Domain Master, this battle was despairingly one sided.
He felt like a beast trapped in a cage.
He was a middle-stage Domain Master, yet he was being completely toyed with by a youth who had just entered the Core Formation Realm!
"I WILL CRUSH YOU!"
The assassin’s eyes turned bloodshot.
