Chapter 2501: Higher order (2)

I was still unwilling to go along with Max’s plan since it seemed like there was only one result that would come of this.

However, there was a part of me that was hesitating because I had seen all of the things that Max was capable of. It was all of the things that he had done with divine energy and corruption energy that made me believe that he might be onto something.

It was just that I really didn’t want to make an enemy of the immortal from the upper realm by destroying this piece of the stone shard.

Even though technically we had already offended them by cutting this piece off of the stone shard to begin with. There was a completely different meaning if I were to destroy this piece of the stone shard that contained the immortal energy.

Or at least that was the case if I used my divine energy.

"We’ve already come this far, so the only thing I have to ask is how confident are you?"

When Max seemed to pause for thought after I asked this, I couldn’t help shaking my head with a bitter smile.

Was this not something that he had already thought of?

But after looking like he was lost in thought for a bit, Max suddenly turned around and started looking for something among the instruments that he had. He kept flipping through these things as if he was looking for something specific.

After a while, it seemed like he finally found the thing that he was looking for as he started bringing certain instruments over to set up in the area around the piece of the stone shard.

This wasn’t something that had been set up before, it was something that he was only doing now that I was asking him about this.

"Would you have thought of this if I didn’t say anything?" I had to ask this question as I watched him set up everything like this.

Max didn’t answer at first as he was focused on setting everything up, but then he suddenly said, "I probably would have thought of this before we actually did anything."

He said this with confidence, but I still couldn’t help looking at me with a bitter smile on my face. After all, the way that he said this didn’t really inspire any confidence in me.

He was the kind of genius that just did whatever he wanted sometimes as long as he had some kind of idea.

Once he was done setting everything up, I could tell what it was that he set up.

This was something that we had developed together since it was something that was needed in our experiments with the corruption energy.

Corruption energy was just too dangerous to be allowed to move freely, so we had to create something that could suppress it if needed. Which was why we had created this kind of pseudo cage with this equipment.

It was able to create a cage out of divine energy when it was necessary that would suppress whatever was inside of it.

From the way that my sword had cut right through the stone shard, we already knew that the divine energy had an effect on the immortal energy. So this cage of divine energy should be able to keep the immortal energy from scattering if I destroyed the piece of the stone shard.

Since he was already going this far, it really seemed like it was too late to back down.

Which was why I gathered my divine energy in my hand.

This was different from cutting a piece off the stone shard, this was directly using the divine energy to crush this stone shard formed from immortal energy. That meant that I couldn’t just use the divine energy that was gathered in a single point.

It had to be divine energy that covered an area that would press down on this piece of the stone shard.

It was like a hydraulic press from my past life, but it was one that was made purely of divine energy that would be used to destroy this item formed from immortal energy.

As for whether there would be immortal energy left behind or not...

I didn’t think too much about it as I brought my hand down towards the piece of the stone shard.

To be honest, I didn’t even know what to expect when the two forces made contact with each other. It was just that the moment that the divine energy surrounding my hand made contact with the piece of the stone shard, I couldn’t believe what I saw.

"It’s disappearing...It’s almost as if it’s disintegrating..."

The divine energy made the stone shard itself disappear without a trace, but it didn’t seem natural.

It was as if there was some kind of natural suppression that came from them making contact.

But even if the stone parts of it disappeared, it seemed to leave behind something.

The way that it was left behind, it really did resemble what happened when a hydraulic press crushed something. It was being squeezed out from the sides as my hand pushed down on it.

This thing that was left behind was the immortal energy that had been inside of the piece of the stone shard. It wasn’t just scattered immortal energy used to create the shell that had been the piece of the stone shard, it was the concentrated immortal energy that was contained within.

That wasn’t something that was that easy to destroy.

Only it wasn’t as if the immortal energy would remain in a place where it would be in danger like this. Which was why the moment that it was squeezed out the sides, it started scattering in all directions as if it was trying to run.

However, the immortal energy that came out didn’t really get that far.

Once it reached the barrier of divine energy that was around it, it seemed to freeze in place.

Almost as if there was something that was suppressing it.
