She Was Written to Die, So She Seized the Throne Instead

Chapter 277: Why Doesn't He Use His Own Weapon?

  • Next Chapter

Rong Qing had certified that the Lone Ranger’s martial arts were top-tier, but Rong Qing never said *he* could beat a tiger. And now, the Lone Ranger was facing a tiger that had been driven into a complete frenzy by the scent of blood.

“ROAR!”

The tiger’s fighting spirit was soaring. Seeing someone charge at it only made it more excited.

The man and the tiger were soon locked in combat. The Lone Ranger’s skills were far superior to the previous fighters; the tiger couldn’t take him down in just a few moves.

The man and tiger were evenly matched, trading blows back and forth. The Lone Ranger even managed to slash the tiger’s leg with his blade.

“AWOOO!”

The tiger roared in pain and fury, and the surrounding crowd cheered with delight.

“Nice!”

He was only the second person so far to injure the tiger. The first one had merely broken the skin, but this time, the cut had drawn blood.

Stung by the pain, the tiger became even more aggressive, its speed visibly increasing. The Lone Ranger, however, didn’t immediately counterattack. Instead, he kept running and dodging.

“Get him! Why are you running? The tiger’s already hurt, what’s there to be afraid of?”

It’s easy for a crowd of onlookers to talk big. They wanted him to win, yet they also seemed to hope he’d hurry up and get himself killed.

For once, Xiao Li also focused her attention on the deadly battle. She watched as the Lone Ranger kept leading the tiger on a chase, never attacking. Several times, he nearly baited the tiger into leaping from the pit up to the spectator stands.

The people above were scared out of their wits and started cursing him out; some even cast a Spell for him to die a quick death.

Ziyue saw the strategy. “He’s trying to wear out the tiger’s stamina.”

“The tiger has already fought so many people. Even though it was a complete rout, it still expended energy. If he can tire the tiger out, his chances of killing it will be much higher.”

Ziyue was right. It certainly looked like that was the Lone Ranger’s plan. But Xiao Li was focused on something else entirely.

“Tell me, why isn’t he using his own weapons?”

According to Rong Qing, the Lone Ranger carried a Divine Weapon from the Chu Family on his back, a one-of-a-kind Divine weapon that could pierce any armor or Shield.

If he had used that weapon to strike the tiger, he probably would have lopped its paw clean off just now.

But from the very beginning, he showed no intention of using his own weapons. Now, with the tiger chasing him relentlessly, he had even less of an opportunity to do so.

No one enters the pit intending to die. But if he wanted to win, why not use the weapons he was most comfortable with?

‘Arrogance?’

‘How skilled would someone have to be to act arrogant in the face of such a ferocious tiger?’

“ROAR!”

The tiger saw its chance and launched a sudden attack. The Lone Ranger raised his blade to block but was sent flying by a swipe of its paw. The tiger’s claws raked across his body, instantly shredding his clothes and leaving bloody gashes on his skin.

“Yes! That’s how you get him! Go, Lord Tiger!”

They had just been terrified when the Lone Ranger nearly lured the tiger up into the stands. Now, the crowd didn’t hate the tiger; they hated the Lone Ranger who had almost gotten them involved.

Meanwhile, the betting stalls were livelier than ever.

“Place your bets, place your bets! The tiger is wounded, the tables have turned! Everyone, come and place your bets! All bets are final, all bets are final!”

Whether the tiger or the Lone Ranger would die, the odds on the betting boards were now even.

Over in the pit, the Lone Ranger was still wearing the tiger down. He found an opportunity to retrieve his blade, then leaped onto the wall of the pit. In that instant, he gripped the blade with both hands, turned, and descended from above, hacking down at the tiger.

The blow sliced off one of the tiger’s ears and a chunk of flesh from the back of its head.

“Yes!”

Some people were hoping for the Lone Ranger’s death, while others were hoping for his victory.

After all, his fight with the tiger was enough to prove his skill. He was truly an expert.

It’s human nature to admire the strong.

Ziyue was getting excited just watching. “He’s amazing! Sister, do you think he can kill the tiger?”

Xiao Li nodded, giving him a definitive answer. “He can.”

She wasn’t joking. The Lone Ranger’s martial arts, intelligence, and composure were absolutely enough to kill that tiger. But…

The steward in charge of the event had already gone to King Xian’s side, bowing as he said something in a low voice.

Xiao Li looked through her binoculars. King Xian’s expression was not pleased.

Xiao Li was still bothered by why the Lone Ranger wouldn’t take out his own weapons. He wasn’t even willing to give his name. Why was that?

“AHHH!”

“Heavens!”

The entire arena suddenly erupted in earth-shattering screams. Xiao Li looked down and saw that the Lone Ranger had severed one of the tiger’s legs.

The tiger instantly collapsed, unable to even stand steadily.

Blood dripped from the severed leg. It could no longer give chase. This time, it was the Lone Ranger’s turn to advance, blade in hand, toward the beast.

“Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!”

The shouts for victory were incredibly rousing.

The crowd watched with bated breath, waiting for the Lone Ranger to raise his blade and kill the tiger.

The tiger, so arrogant just moments ago, could sense death’s approach and finally felt a stir of fear.

It tried to attack with its remaining good paw, but as soon as it lifted its body, it collapsed, crashing heavily to the ground twice. In the end, it could only back away slowly, its eyes fixed on him with fierce vigilance.

“It’s scared! Haha, a beast is just a beast!”

“Kill it! Hurry up and kill it!”

Just as the Lone Ranger was about to make his move, the steward’s voice came from above. “Stop. The victor has been decided. Why must you take the tiger’s life?”

In an instant, the entire arena was in an uproar.

“On what grounds? It killed so many people, why can’t he kill it?”

“Exactly! The tiger’s not even dead, how can this count as a win?”

“Kill the tiger! Kill the tiger! Kill, kill, kill!”

No one answered their complaints. A group of soldiers had already rushed down, using their long spears to force the injured, non-aggressive tiger back into its cage.

The tiger’s leg was broken. The match was decided.

The steward looked down on the Lone Ranger. “King Xian’s word is his bond. The victor will be rewarded with ten thousand taels of gold. Winner, please state your name.”

Ten thousand taels of gold! King Xian was actually going to pay up. In a flash, everyone’s anger about not being able to kill the tiger turned into jealousy and envy toward the Lone Ranger.

The Lone Ranger, however, did not answer the steward. He turned as if to leave.

But he was already surrounded by soldiers, with no way out.

The steward spoke again. “Winner, please state your name.”

“Since you participated in the competition, why are you unwilling to give your name? Is it that you cannot be seen, or do you hold King Xian in contempt?”

The people in the crowd began to whisper amongst themselves, discussing why the Lone Ranger wouldn’t give his real name and asking around if anyone recognized him.

In a few quick leaps, the Lone Ranger jumped up into the stands and started walking toward King Xian, but he was quickly blocked. The same words were repeated.

“State your name.”

For some reason, the Lone Ranger simply would not say his name. As the situation reached a stalemate, two soldiers below suddenly hoisted up a person and threw him directly into the tiger’s cage.

“What are they doing?”

“Ah, the tiger is crawling over!”

The person who had been thrown in seemed to have a bad leg and couldn’t stand up at all. He crawled to the side, hugging a post tightly. His fear was obvious, but he didn’t make a sound.

But up on the stands, the moment the Lone Ranger saw this, his Divine Soul shattered.

He leaped down in an instant, simultaneously undoing the bundle on his back. A sword and a staff flew into the air. He caught them, and in the blink of an eye, they combined into a long spear.

And the person in the cage, who hadn’t made a sound until now, suddenly let out a heart-wrenching scream upon seeing this: “Brother!”
