Chapter 1697: Chapter 1091: Heroine of the Republic 65 (5000+) _2

By contrast, An Hu hadn’t paid these loudmouths any mind from start to finish. He went to class when it was time for class, to the bathroom when he needed to, and finally, after struggling through to the end of the school day, he was anxious to get home for dinner. He usually ate at school at noon, but tonight Mommy An didn’t have evening classes, so he could go home to eat and also do his self-study at home. Mommy An had already cleared it with the school long ago—he had the ability to study on his own, so even if he didn’t stay for evening self-study at school, it was fine.

But he’d only just stepped out the school gate when more than a dozen people blocked his way. Zhang Cong was the last to appear. Seeing the setup, An Hu laughed. "Not convinced?"

Zhang Cong folded his arms and leaned against a tree, not saying a word, just waved his hand at his lackeys. The other students saw what was happening and immediately scattered, clearing the area for them.

With his backpack on his shoulders, An Hu easily slipped past one attack after another. His reactions were sharp, like he could already see where each fist and kick was going to land. Not only did he avoid giving them any chance to surround him, he even used subtle leverage to beat the bunch of them until they were howling in pain.

At first, Zhang Cong had been feeling pretty untouchable, but a few rounds in, not only had his people failed to gain any advantage, they were all grimacing from the pain of the cheap shots An Hu was landing. He instantly flew into a rage. "You useless pieces of shit, so many of you and you can’t beat one guy?"

As he tried to sneak up on An Hu, he didn’t expect that just when several people had supposedly pinned An Hu down, the latter would suddenly lift his leg and drive a kick straight into his gut. Heavyweight that he was, Zhang Cong let out a howl and staggered backward on momentum alone. His follower behind him rushed up to catch him, and a bunch of them ended up toppling in a tangled heap.

An Hu went on twisting fingers and chopping at armpits; after a few well-placed moves, everyone had backed far away from him, not daring to get close again.

Then he brushed the dust off his clothes and looked down on Zhang Cong with cold contempt.

"Not everyone is just going to swallow their anger and let you walk all over them. These past few years I’ve been training with my mom in a whole set of techniques that specialize in dealing with crooked shit like this. So no matter how many people you bring, when you run into me, not only will you fail to leave any marks on me, you’ll be the ones grimacing in pain. Zhang Cong, those people you used to bully didn’t know how to fight back. I despised that, so I never helped. But today you came at me, and you still have to see whether I agree to that or not. Today is the first time, and it’s also the last. If there’s a next time, don’t blame me for not being polite—I don’t care whose son you are!"

Shouldering his backpack, An Hu walked off. He knew full well the classmates didn’t dare resist because they were afraid of the Zhang family’s influence. After all, in these times there weren’t many families that could afford to eat their kid that fat. He’d even heard Zhang Cong had a nightmare of a Grandma who treated him like the apple of her eye; if she latched onto your family, none of you would ever know peace again. That only made him less afraid.

Ever since he was little, An Yi had taught him: If people don’t mess with me, I don’t mess with them. If people mess with me, I’ll be there for it.

Because of time constraints, An Yi had never given An Hu systematic training, but in their family, both men and women all knew this close-combat routine. Supposedly it was because his elder aunt and younger aunt were once mugged at night and even injured; if a few soldiers from the liberation army hadn’t shown up, it could’ve gotten real bad. After that, they all started learning and practicing with An Yi.

Most of the time he kept a low profile and had no chance to show off. Today finally gave him a field test.

He hadn’t expected the skills Mommy An taught him to be this effective—one person up against a dozen and he didn’t even have to be afraid. Seemed Mommy An had been right: as long as your head is clear, your IQ’s online, you stay calm and read their reactions, then breaking them down one by one works extremely well.

He just didn’t know whether this Zhang Cong would retaliate, and if he really did go after their family, how were they supposed to deal with it?

Even though Mommy An had said there was no need to fear shady tactics like that, he still felt he might end up dragging her into trouble. So when he got home, he laid out the whole story from beginning to end.

After listening, An Yi comforted him. "It’s fine, you did the right thing. When troops come, we send generals; when floodwaters rise, we pile up earth. We’ll deal with whatever comes. You just focus on your studies, don’t worry about it."

What they didn’t expect was that the Zhang Family had such a vindictive streak. They’d barely finished eating when someone started pounding on the front door.

An Hu ran over to open it and was immediately grabbed by an Old Lady. "So you’re the little bastard who beat up my grandson, huh? You’ve got some fucking nerve, daring to bully my grandson. What the hell are you worth? I don’t even twitch a finger for trash like you. Watch me beat you to death." As she spoke, she swung a slap across An Hu’s face.
