She Lives without Regret in This Life
Chapter 1809 - 1886: The Punishment He Deserves
"I disagree." Xu Qigang’s eyes suddenly turned cold, and he said icily, "I will never let go of you in this lifetime."
"Then asking these questions is pointless." For some reason, hearing him say this made her feel relieved.
Xu Qigang stopped speaking again, just stared at her intently, the kind of gaze that made one’s heart restless.
"If you don’t speak, I’m leaving." She stood up in a huff, and the person on the bed quickly jumped down and grabbed her hand.
"Don’t leave, I’ll talk, can’t I talk?" He softened his voice to placate her, "Sit on the bed! The chair is too far away." As he spoke, he forcibly pushed her to sit on the bed, fearing he might anger her again, he didn’t dare make any moves.
"Your plans, your injuries." She spoke concisely, and as she did, her gaze involuntarily fell on his face, noticing it was visibly paler than before.
It must be from jumping off the bed just now to stop her. Sheng Ning felt even angrier inside; it’s such a critical time, yet he’s still trying to hide things from her, either not speaking or dodging topics.
"Xiao Ning, does it hurt?" Xu Qigang cautiously reached out, touching her slender belly. It was so delicate, as if a slight pressure would break it. He couldn’t imagine how much pain or injury that incident would have caused her.
These days, every time he found himself alone deep in the night, he wished he could just shoot himself.
"I know it was Qin Shuang who pushed you back then, I won’t let her get away with it, don’t worry."
"What about you?" Sheng Ning looked at him directly.
"I won’t let myself get away with it either."
Listening to his words, her brow furrowed as she suddenly lifted the blanket off him, only for him to hold her down forcefully. "Let go of me."
"Xiao Ning." Xu Qigang almost begged as he looked at her, pressing firmly, not allowing her to see.
"I order you to let go." She was truly angry. She had been confused about how his physical condition and healing ability could allow old injuries to flare up so seriously, now she seemed to have found a reason.
"Xiao Ning." They were so close that they could feel each other’s breath growing more urgent. His dark eyes were fixed on her, filled with pain. But his hand slowly loosened its grip.
Sheng Ning, trembling, lifted the blanket, pulling up his patient pants to reveal straight, slender calves, and further up, knees covered in wounds.
She gasped audibly, those knee injuries were hard to look at directly. They seemed hacked with countless knives, crisscrossed, although not bleeding, some wounds were festering, while others scabbed but reopened, old and new injuries overlapping. Her fainting at the General Union earlier was likely caused by the festering knee wound!
"What... what are you doing?" Her eyes were sore, her voice carried a nasal tone.
"This is the punishment I deserve."
"You mean to cripple yourself."
"No, I know my limits, I won’t really be disabled." If disability could earn her forgiveness, he’d willingly accept it. But he knows he can’t use such despicable means to force her.
What he wants is her willing forgiveness, not to make her feel guilty, so these injuries, though serious in appearance, are only superficial and won’t be life-threatening or disabling.
Sheng Ning was angered to tears by his indifferent attitude, clearly not wanting to forgive him, but still couldn’t help feeling soft-hearted. On the other hand, she felt she was being too melodramatic; she was set up in that incident, and so was he.
Everyone knows he is an honest, responsible rescue comrade, Qin Xue and Qin Shuang were just exploiting a loophole deliberately.
Seeing him stand by the door for days, neither eating nor drinking, Sheng Ning felt a pang of pain in her heart.
