Chapter 284: Chapter 282: The Ability to Settle the People and Establish Oneself
After two days of planning and observation, Shen Yue was ready. She decided to first teach the citizens of Barbaric City how to build sturdy houses capable of withstanding the harsh winter. When she shared this idea with Huang Ziyue, Mu Silin, and the others, they were all astonished. They had no idea what kind of houses she intended to teach them to build.
Shen Yue handed them the structural blueprints she had prepared in advance. "I drew this up this morning. Every step is clearly indicated and easy to understand. The most crucial part is building a structure that combines stone and wood, which doesn’t require much time or material. Furthermore, by coating these houses with a mixture of yellow mud and hay, they’ll have highly effective insulation against the cold. They’ll even keep out the heat in the summer!"
Huang Ziyue and Mu Silin were utterly shocked when they saw the structural diagrams on the blueprints. The overall appearance of the house looked exactly like the bamboo houses they had previously built on Wilderness Mountain! The only difference was that this design utilized the existing stone house frameworks, reinforcing them with wooden beams and a roof structure, making it look much sturdier and more robust.
As Si Muye studied it, he felt the same shock as when Shen Yue had first handed him the blueprint for the bamboo house. Such an ingenious design—only she could conceive and draw something like this. He had originally intended to treasure that first blueprint, but it had unexpectedly been snatched away halfway by the Golden Lion Clan.
At that thought, he shot an unfriendly glare at Ye Lüqi. Feeling the angry gaze, Ye Lüqi looked over. With just one exchange of looks, he understood the leopard’s grievance. Ye Lüqi awkwardly averted his eyes, pretending not to notice.
Gu Fangqi marvelled at the masterful design, admiring it back and forth for quite a while. "Can a house like this truly withstand the cold and prevent the summer heat?" He still found it unbelievable.
"Would I lie to you?" Shen Yue retorted.
Gu Fangqi quickly straightened his posture and shut his mouth.
Shen Yue looked at the group. "Let’s get moving first. Leopard and Lion, you two go right now to gather the city’s residents and pass down this news. Fox and Gu Fangqi will lead a team to search for yellow mud and hay within the city. As for the timber, I noticed a dense, tall forest to the north of Barbaric City. You may cut down one large tree every five meters, but do not clear-cut entire areas!"
Upon hearing this, they all took their clearly defined roles and headed out to execute their tasks. The Dragon Guard, along with Wu Huo and the others from the Mystic Mechanism Building, also went to notify the citizens.
Only Huang Ziyue and Si Muye remained by Shen Yue’s side, accompanying her as she continued searching Barbaric City for what she needed. After walking for another half a day, the little ones who had followed her to this sparsely populated area collapsed from exhaustion.
"Female mother, is this dirt still not good enough?"
Shen Yue crouched on the ground, digging through the hard layer of soil, but she shook her head again. "No, this soil is too loose. It’s all fine sand with absolutely no nutrients!" She stood up and continued walking forward.
Si Muye’s heart ached as he watched the little cubs struggling to take another step. "Shen Yue, how about I take the children back first? They look exhausted!"
Shen Yue paused her steps and turned to look at them.
The little ones stared up at her eagerly, yet their eyes remained stubborn.
"Female mother, Dabao can do it! Dabao isn’t going back!"
"Yeah, Wubao too! Wubao is going to be a real man. I’m not tired!"
Shen Yue watched the little ones grit their teeth, determined to prove their resolve to her. In truth, her heart ached terribly for them, but what else could she do? She had to teach them more.
She crouched down, looking at the little ones, and gently stroked their heads. "Female mother knows you are the best babies, and it pains me to see you suffer. I want you to go back and rest, too."
Her voice grew a little hoarse as she continued. "But this is an excellent learning opportunity. If you can help me find soil where seeds can take root and sprout, I’ll never have to worry about you going hungry in the future. Wherever you go, you can carry seeds of hope, let them take root, and bear fruit."
Huang Ziyue and Si Muye trembled inwardly as they listened. They finally understood the true meaning behind Shen Yue’s actions. It turned out she was teaching the children the ability to settle down and establish themselves. She was teaching them the fundamentals of survival, something even more important than uplifting the entire Beast World. She was changing this era, passing down everything she knew to the children step by step. What she was doing had long surpassed the bounds of their understanding.
The little ones listened with wide eyes.
"Is female mother saying that Erbao can plant seeds in the ground and grow fruits we can eat?"
"Dabao knows! Female mother said that the vegetables and fruits we eat all grow from the ground."
"Then can Sibao plant the tomatoes we love to eat? And sweet potatoes and potatoes? And peanuts? Oh, and corn too!!"
Shen Yue looked at them tenderly. "Of course you can. As long as you are willing to try, female mother believes that in the future, this Beast World will be filled with fruits and vegetables, brimming with life. And my babies will never have to go hungry again!"
This was what she wanted. She wondered what would happen if, one day, she was no longer by their side. Would they return to those days of food scarcity, where they had to run dozens of miles just to catch fish, where wild fruits were a rarity, and where they hadn’t even seen vegetables? How could she bear to let them return to such a life?
Because of this, she had pondered for a whole night. The words Huang Ziyue had spoken back then lingered in her mind. He had said that it was a blessing for the people of this world to be in her hands! Perhaps she really could do something to make the lives of these people, who lived in suffering, a little better. Therefore, she had to teach the children the ability to create. Even without her, they would be able to create things that did not yet exist in this Beast World.
Hearing her words, the little ones’ fatigue instantly vanished.
"Okay! When we find the soil, Liubao will plant corn! Corn is the most delicious!"
"Sibao wants to plant strawberries! Strawberries are the best fruit I’ve ever eaten!"
"Wubao wants to plant wheat! Female mother said wheat can be made into flour, noodles, and so many other foods. Wubao thinks that if we grow wheat, no one will have to go hungry!"
"Mhm! Wubao is right, Dabao wants to plant wheat too."
Listening to them, Shen Yue turned her gaze to Sanbao, whose little face was tense. "Sanbao, what do you want to plant?"
Every child had a seed in their heart that they wanted to scatter across this land, and Sanbao was certainly no exception. Upon hearing Shen Yue’s question, Sanbao pursed his little lips, seemingly lost in thought. After a long moment, he spoke.
"Cot..."
"...ton."
The two brief syllables made Shen Yue freeze for a moment. Sanbao actually wanted to plant cotton? She was genuinely surprised. She remembered when they were on Wilderness Mountain and she was sewing cotton-padded clothes for them, she had explained the origins of their padded jackets, trousers, and quilts. She had then talked about cotton, telling them that it was an essential resource for everyone to survive the winter. Without cotton, there would be no warmth, and many people would freeze to death. She hadn’t expected Sanbao to listen so intently and take it to heart.
Although Huang Ziyue didn’t know what cotton was, seeing Shen Yue’s excited and incredulous expression told him that this item must be extremely important.
Shen Yue hugged Sanbao tightly. Her Sanbao’s body was freezing, yet his heart was so warm. It meant he wanted to bring warmth to everyone.
At this thought, she quickly shifted her focus. "Alright, Sanbao is amazing. So, let’s keep searching. If we find the right soil, female mother will reward each of you with a seed to bury in the dirt, so you can witness them taking root and sprouting with your own eyes. How does that sound?"
If nothing else, her Spiritual Spring Space had absolutely everything she needed. She could even find cotton seeds. She had specifically asked for them from a local farm owner when she was travelling in Jiang City back in the modern era.
