Chapter 681: Everyone Gets Only One Chance to Make a Mistake

The woman tugged at the man's sleeve.

The man remained unmoved, even shooting her a warning glare.

Perhaps because the man was usually very tolerant of her, the woman paid no attention to his warning look at all.

This woman was not a fool by any means; on the contrary, she was the brains of the convoy.

Her rational thinking had saved the entire convoy from several major crises.

This convoy wasn't actually that strong, roughly on par with the Skeleton Convoy.

They had originally planned to leave together with the Skeleton Convoy.

But the woman decided to stay, so the entire convoy stayed as well.

When they saw so many long-necked creatures on the beach, the Superhumans in this convoy all felt grateful they had listened to this woman.

As a result, the Superhumans in this convoy trusted her even more.

To be able to hold a position in a convoy as an ordinary person during the apocalypse, no less important than the Superhumans themselves, showed just how capable this woman was.

Women like her were rare across the entire base, one in a million.

Even in front of Superhumans, she showed no fear whatsoever.

She had even represented the Captain at Silent Council meetings on several occasions.

However, this woman also had a habit.

She wanted to document every Anomaly that currently existed in this world.

To date, she had filled at least three hundred pages of Anomaly Notebook.

It was even more detailed than most captains' notebooks.

Some captains' notebooks were off-limits to ordinary people.

But because she was an ordinary person herself, her Anomaly Notebook could be read by everyone.

Because of this, her Anomaly Notebook had helped many people.

And this time...

Although the woman could sense that the things she hadn't yet seen were bringing her an overwhelming sense of dread, she still wanted to look.

Others couldn't do it, but maybe she could.

She was too confident.

An Anomaly emerging from the bottom of the sea, this was a type she had never encountered before.

It held an extremely powerful allure for her.

She wanted to see it, wanted to record it, so that more people could see it in the future, more people could understand it, more people could survive because of it.

To that end, she had begged the Captain for a very, very long time.

About three minutes, give or take.

The Captain was of the Pathfinder Sequence, but he still didn't want the woman to go look through the window.

Most of the windows on this migration vehicle had been sealed shut, with only the Captain's window left unsealed.

Because this window was a symbol of Superhuman privilege.

Only Superhumans could approach this window.

Seeing that she had pleaded so humbly for so long and the Captain remained unmoved, the woman seemed to get a bit angry.

The Captain was momentarily at a loss.

The woman pointed at herself, then at the ordinary survivors beside her who were huddled like quails.

She seemed to be saying that she was different from them.

She was too confident.

So confident that she had already started thinking of herself as a Superhuman.

Finally, the Captain's resolve began to waver slightly.

The woman pressed her palms together, begging the Captain earnestly.

The Captain gritted his teeth.

The woman made a zipping motion across her lips, signaling that she definitely wouldn't make a sound.

She even pressed her lips tightly together.

The Captain finally nodded with difficulty.

Perhaps this woman really was different after all.

Not to mention her long-standing contributions to the convoy.

The Captain stepped aside from the window.

He planned to seal this window shut too, once her curiosity was satisfied, and keep it sealed until everything was over.

The woman was terrified deep down, her legs trembling and her teeth chattering.

Seeing the window now open to her, she took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and encouraged herself.

For the sake of that Anomaly Notebook, perhaps many people would survive because of it!

Her intentions were good.

With her conviction strengthened, the woman slowly approached the window.

Raising her eyes, she saw...

The once lively camp had now become a field of death.

Those blue-gray bodies shuffled numbly through the base.

More precisely, they were passing through the base.

No one knew where they were going, only that they had come from the depths of the sea.

It seemed these Anomaly bodies possessed the ability to evoke fear deep within people's hearts.

To keep herself from making a sound, the woman clamped both hands tightly over her mouth.

She didn't even care that her face was being squeezed out of shape.

The terror in her heart made her feel like her heart was frantically constricting, crushing down on itself.

One more look, just one more look, and then I'll stop.

I need to record them all, record them all...

Those necks... so long!

Just then, the woman was drawn to something else.

A pair of grayish-white eyes, with wet, dripping hair still trailing water.

It was the "old acquaintance" Chen Ye had seen before.

This time, it was a true face-to-face meeting.

Gray eyes meeting black pupils.

And the winding neck connecting to the head.

All of it made the scene before her utterly terrifying.

The fear in the woman's heart was magnified without limit.

She wanted to scream, wanted to make a sound to vent her terror.

All her previous confidence shattered into broken glass in that instant.

"Ahhh~~~"

The woman screamed, tears streaming down her face.

Her terrified shriek nearly blew the roof right off the vehicle.

That scream almost scared the souls out of everyone around.

As the scream echoed across the entire base...

Not just the Fair Convoy, it seemed the entire base all turned to look in the direction of that vehicle.

Just for that one instant.

Both the living and the not-quite-living all took notice of that vehicle.

And then...

All the heads turned toward that vehicle in unison.

The woman stared at the scene in utter horror, tears flowing uncontrollably.

"Sor... sorry..."

Before the last word could even leave her mouth.

The sound of shattering glass came.

Countless heads crashed through the window.

Shards of glass flew everywhere.

Pure chaos and panic...

Every sealed window, even the iron body of the vehicle itself, was smashed through.

Some heads crashed in through the windows.

Some heads smashed in through the doors.

And some heads came crashing down through the roof.

"Ah..."

"I don't want to die..."

"Help, someone save me..."

"I... I... mom..."

"Sigh... it's finally over..."

"..."

That vehicle looked like a potato stabbed full of toothpicks.

To the point where there wasn't a single spot left to fit one more toothpick.

At first, the vehicle's body kept shaking, as if someone was resisting.

But soon...

The shaking stopped.

The commotion inside that vehicle lasted less than half a minute.

Then the vehicle went silent.

As if nothing had ever happened.

Those heads retracted back out of the vehicle.

Every single head had blood at the corners of its mouth.

Only that large vehicle, now looking like a honeycomb, sat there... silent!

This is the apocalypse!!!

No matter what you did before!

No matter how smart you are!

No matter how confident you are!

No matter what your intentions are!

Everyone gets only one chance to make a mistake!!!
