Seeking Martial Dao in All Reborn Lives
Chapter 505: Descent
Chapter 505: Chapter 335: Descent
The Great Wei Dynasty held dominion over the heart of the world, occupying its most fertile lands. In a world overrun by Evil Spirits, it commanded all Martial Artists and succeeded in establishing a stable nation—no simple feat.
Two hundred years ago, the Grand Ancestor of Great Wei, Lv Ting, established the new dynasty and condensed a Dao Source Mark. This granted the Great Wei imperial family the power to appoint City Gods. That Dao Source Mark was forged as one with the Dynasty itself, residing within the Heirloom Seal of the Realm. Passed down through the generations, it was the greatest pillar supporting the imperial family’s rule.
Although the special nature of the throne and the Jade Seal meant the Emperor could not travel far from the Divine Capital, the Great Wei court was not lacking in top-tier masters. The six strongest among them, masters of Divine Techniques, were known as the Six Pillars of the Court. Bestowed with the power of the Incense and Candle Dao by the Emperor, their strength was considered the apex of their time.
To accomplish a great feat on the lands of Great Wei, under the watchful eyes of Emperor Hengyang, was no easy task. At the very least, one could not act recklessly; thorough preparations were essential.
“What a pity. We’ve missed the Day of Yin Ghosts during the coming Mid-Autumn Festival. We’ll have to find another time to make our move.”
After a brief silence, the Jiuyin Child sighed as he spoke.
“We’ve already waited so many years; a little longer won’t matter. The success of the plan is what’s most important. However, things will get more troublesome from here. If necessary, all the Evil Cult Statues we currently control will have to be temporarily moved out of Heqing Dao. There might be some risks involved in that.”
“Also, what concerns me more is the complication that arose during this plan.”
“Gui Cang, can you glean anything from the Celestial Secrets about that person? You should have already received the statue fragment Jiuyin sent you through the Gate, right?”
The tall figure standing before the “Open Gate” looked toward the short, stooped figure before the “Life Gate.”
“I cannot see it. Under normal circumstances, since the Evil Cult Statue was destroyed because of this person, traces of their Primordial Qi should have been left on the fragments. Using that as a medium, I would very likely be able to perceive some of the Celestial Secret. But all I saw was a blur. This situation implies only two possibilities. First, someone stronger than I has obscured the Celestial Secret for them. The second… is that they are one of those who do not exist within the Celestial Secrets of this world.”
Gui Cang spoke, his voice as hoarse as scraping porcelain shards, a deeply unsettling sound.
“A Descent? That is indeed possible. Without the aid of the Thunderfire Golden Armor, it’s impossible for anyone from the Red Heart Sect to condense Golden Fire at the Blood Strengthening realm. But a Descent is different. Legend says the Great Spirit Official preaches across three thousand worlds, and the Spirit Official Dao has five hundred Spirit Officials. If one of those Spirit Officials were to descend to this world, condensing Golden Fire at the Blood Strengthening realm would not be a problem.”
The man before the Injury Gate spoke. Behind him hovered several twisted sword shadows. The shadows appeared inanimate, yet they writhed faintly, as if possessing a bizarre form of life.
“Another Descent? Based on the intel we’ve gathered, it seems Descents are appearing all over Great Wei. The problems in the Upper Realm must be growing more severe. Our time is running out.”
The man before the Xiu Gate spoke. He was shrouded in a large cloak that hid his form, but the very space around him was inexplicably twisting, forming several small vortexes.
“Why don’t we find an opportunity and just wipe out all the low-level disciples of the Red Heart Sect? Descents are a liability.”
A slender female figure before the Jing Gate spoke up.
“They are nothing but a group of losers. The ones descending now are just a vanguard, not anyone important. They can’t affect the overall situation yet. Besides, too many factions are watching that place right now, so it’s not a good time for us to act. Let’s deal with the immediate problem. The Six Pillars of the Court are coming here in person. This won’t be over so easily. We’ll likely have to fight. Moving the Evil Cult Statues from all locations will also take time. Everyone, make your preparations.”
The man before the Open Gate said.
“The Six Pillars? Formless, is your ‘Extreme Technique’ fully charged? These opponents should be interesting.”
The figure with the twisted sword shadows looked to the cloaked man before the Xiu Gate, his voice tinged with an eagerness for battle.
“My ‘Extreme Technique’ is not something to be wasted on this. With Zhu Xie’s help, you can have as many of your sword gu as you want. You can be the main force this time. You’re the one who scurried away from Heqing Dao back then. I’ll give this chance to take the spotlight to you. Go on, wash away your past disgrace.”
The cloaked man before the Xiu Gate, Formless, said in a cold tone.
“Watch your words! What do you mean, ‘scurried away’?! I fought my way out of there!”
Sword Gu, before the Injury Gate, protested.
“And what do you mean ‘as many as he wants’?! Do you think I’m some egg-laying hen?!”
On the other side, the slender Zhu Xie, who stood before the Jing Gate, also voiced her discontent.
“Heh heh.”
Watching the others as they were about to start bickering, the short, stooped Gui Cang let out a strange cackle before turning and walking into his gate, severing the connection.
On the other side, the figure before the Du Gate who had never spoken also turned and walked into the portal.
“…”
Watching the others still bickering, the man before the Open Gate paused for a moment before speaking. “This meeting is over. Contact me individually if there’s anything else.”
With that, he turned and walked back into his gate. The images of all the participants began to blur before vanishing completely.
“Wait, we haven’t sorted this out yet…”
Sword Gu seemed to still be shouting, but his voice grew fainter and his image more blurred until both vanished completely.
