Chapter 769: Chapter 770: Everyone Has Their Own Glory—And Perhaps Demons Do Too

The words had barely left Donggua’s lips when Xu Linglong’s gentle, calm voice echoed once more through his Sea of Consciousness, filling every corner.

「Donggua, you know what we’ve been through all these years.」

「A Celestial Demon has already sacrificed for this great cause. Remember who you are. Remember everything you’ve endured.」

「Remember the noble blood flowing through your veins. The supreme mission you were born to carry.」

「Cast aside everything that came before. Grip the sword in your hand.」

「Kill the Chu Xingchen before you. I will lend you my strength.」

「Answer with your actions—prove your most sincere loyalty. I am still waiting.」

The demon’s words coiled around Donggua’s ears like lingering echoes. He struggled to maintain a calm expression—for no reason other than Chu Xingchen’s suspicious gaze was already scrutinizing him.

Though Chu Xingchen had shown him vulnerability and revealed that his cultivation hadn’t recovered, perhaps the psychological shadow Chu Xingchen had cast over Donggua in the past was too deep. And Chu Xingchen’s reputation was far too great.

Toward Chu Xingchen, Donggua always felt a visceral dread.

Even if the current Chu Xingchen might truly be unable to defeat him.

Chu Xingchen walked over and said gently:

"What’s wrong, Donggua? Nervous about seeing Xu Linglong’s clone?"

"A... a little." Donggua seized the excuse Chu Xingchen offered and nodded eagerly.

Chu Xingchen chuckled: "You look a bit too nervous. Don’t be so tense—just sit here and watch."

Don’t be tense?

Donggua wanted to shove the voice in his head straight into Chu Xingchen’s ears for him to hear—the voice ordering him to draw his sword and kill Chu Xingchen right here and now.

If Donggua truly didn’t want to listen to Xu Linglong, that would be one thing. He could just play dead and do nothing.

But...

Donggua instinctively wanted to obey. To draw the ancient sword hidden within his body and drive it straight through Chu Xingchen’s chest.

Even knowing full well that doing so would mean he could never leave alive.

He still wanted to do it.

Concealing the truth instinctively—that was his answer to sincerity.

Why could these filthy, fragile humans—lowly as ants—stand so tall and demand he bow his head?

Donggua accepted his circumstances out of helplessness, not because he accepted humans standing atop demonkind.

He wanted to live. But he didn’t want to live lowly.

Otherwise, Donggua wouldn’t have endured such a tortuous path to reach where he was today.

As he nodded in agreement, his gaze drifted toward the distant figure of Xu Linglong, barely visible on the horizon.

Though he couldn’t see clearly, Donggua felt as though Xu Linglong was nodding—encouraging him to act.

For... the glory of the past.

Chu Xingchen didn’t seem to suspect anything. He settled into a nearby chair and gazed toward the distant battlefield, speaking softly:

"This farce will end soon. When it does, you won’t need to worry about Xu Linglong anymore."

"You’ll live in peace and tranquility, without having to fear the uncertainty of tomorrow."

Donggua heard these words and slowly walked to Chu Xingchen’s side, behind him.

"Thank you, Senior Chu..." Donggua’s voice wavered.

Donggua’s hand drifted toward his waist, fingers lightly touching the Soft-Bone Longsword hidden within his body. The moment his skin made contact, he realized his hand was trembling so badly it was nearly unrecognizable.

The Chu Xingchen before him was protected by the Primordial Chaos Twin Spirit Beads. With his current cultivation, Donggua couldn’t possibly break through.

What Xu Linglong meant by "lending you my strength," Donggua wasn’t entirely clear.

His mind simply fixated on obeying the order. Looking at Chu Xingchen’s back made him feel suffocated.

This Chu Xingchen—who had subdued Xu Linglong, who had slain Celestial Demons, who had enforced Heaven’s Law—

Could he truly be killed by someone as laughably weak as himself?

Donggua refused to let his life be so lowly that it warranted nothing more than a contemptuous laugh—a bedtime joke.

Xu Linglong’s urging voice still echoed through his Sea of Consciousness.

「I can’t hold Xie Lingyu back any longer! Seize the chance—act now!」

Donggua tried to steady his breathing. The conflict and anxiety in his heart began to spread through his body with the flow of his blood.

The distance was so close, yet he didn’t even have the courage to draw the bone sword.

Chu Xingchen seemed to notice something off about Donggua’s breathing. He glanced sideways at him but said nothing. The suspicion in his gaze only deepened.

When their eyes met, Donggua knew—the true opportunity would last only an instant.

This time, he was truly between life and death.

For reasons he couldn’t explain, Donggua suddenly thought of Cui Hao. That Cui Hao who deserved to die ten thousand times over.

If he truly killed Chu Xingchen—

What expression would Cui Hao wear?

The conflict, anxiety, and dread all dissolved under this thought, replaced by sudden clarity.

If he truly killed Chu Xingchen, how much pain would Cui Hao feel?

If he could accomplish this—and live long enough to see Cui Hao’s expression of utter devastation—what a magnificent thing that would be.

To make Cui Hao experience the most extreme suffering would surely be more satisfying than killing him outright.

Yes.

That reason was enough. No more overthinking. Donggua suddenly realized his hand was no longer trembling.

A smile spread across Donggua’s face: "Senior Chu, perhaps we can use Xu Linglong’s clone to track her true body’s location."

Chu Xingchen’s eyes lit up at this:

"There’s such a method? Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

"Because seeing Xu Linglong today reminded me of it. As long as she lives, I can never stop worrying." Now that the fear had left him, excuses came effortlessly. He continued:

"Senior Chu, let me explain the technique to you..."

As he spoke, Donggua moved closer to Chu Xingchen, his gaze fixed intently on the undisguised delight on Chu Xingchen’s face.

People were most vulnerable when they were elated and overjoyed.

The moment was now.

Donggua smoothly drew the Soft-Bone Longsword and channeled every last drop of his Origin Power into it.

There was no need to think so much. Vengeance against Cui Hao alone was enough to stake his life on.

If Chu Xingchen truly won, Donggua would never get his revenge on Cui Hao.

This was probably his only chance.

"Die!" Donggua’s cold shout rang out. The Soft-Bone Longsword, carrying nearly all of his Origin Power, hurtled straight toward Chu Xingchen—whose face still wore an expression of delight.

BOOM!

The Soft-Bone Longsword, wrapped in crimson Origin Power, struck first—but it was stopped by the Primordial Chaos Twin Spirit Beads’ barrier.

Like an iron wall, it halted Donggua’s attack dead.

Chu Xingchen’s expression shifted from delight to fury:

"What do you think you’re doing?"

Donggua’s face was cold, pinning all his hopes on the aid Xu Linglong had promised. But in this moment, he no longer wanted to endure. He’d been enduring for far too long. Through gritted teeth, his voice nearly roared from his throat:

"I want to kill you!"

"Kill Cui Hao! Kill all of you!"

"I’m not your tamed dog!"

"I am noble!"

"Anboluola!"

Donggua shouted his clan name in demon tongue—the surname of his glory.
