Chapter 766: Chapter 767: Being a Monk Was Worth It
These days, you really do see every kind of spectacle.
Boluo’s figure was concealed, his aura extremely restrained. He used only the most basic long-range sight to peer forward, not daring to aim his gaze directly at Bai Xuanling—not even an inadvertent glance, for fear that her True Immortal spiritual consciousness might catch it.
Beside him, Xu Linglong’s somewhat haggard clone stared blankly toward the battlefield ahead.
Calling it a "battlefield" wasn’t quite accurate. More precisely, it was a training ground for Huang Miao and Bai Xuanling.
A God of Slaughter at peak Tribulation Transcendence, and a True Immortal who had ascended to the realm of True Immortality.
They were sweeping through this remote corner of the world. Their formidable spiritual consciousness scoured every inch—even earthworms buried in the soil dared not stir.
Birds scattered in alarm, and all beasts fell silent.
Whenever their senses detected something, neither bothered to investigate deeply. One person, one sword, and then another sweep of spiritual consciousness.
And their relationship still seemed as poor as ever—their sword qi occasionally drifted off course, slashing toward each other.
Boluo narrowed his eyes slightly, watching from afar, his tone puzzled:
"Their search directions are somewhat accurate. There shouldn’t have been any intelligence leak—what are they basing their positioning on? Could it be the Tianyan Divination Art? But ever since the Heavenly Dao acted and the Principles scattered, shouldn’t the heavenly secrets be too murky to read?"
Xu Linglong’s clone answered in a stiff voice:
"It could be the spirit veins. To activate a grand formation, one must seek support from spirit veins. The direction they’re searching—doesn’t it match the vein routes you arranged?"
Boluo nodded in agreement at this, though his tone still held some doubt:
"It’s roughly similar. But for the branch veins—how did they determine which vein shifted direction slightly? And they’re catching it with such sensitivity. It’s far too abnormal."
"Is it because of Chu Xingchen? He really is a bit too impressive for me to comprehend."
"If this keeps up, those two bastards might actually find it."
Boluo’s expression remained calm, though his earlier tone had grown increasingly dissatisfied. He pondered for a moment, then finally asked:
"Huang Miao and Bai Xuanling are undoubtedly the real ones. That Dao resonance, that spiritual energy, that sword intent—none of it can be faked. And their auras are terrifyingly steady."
"So—is Chu Xingchen floating out at sea the real one, or someone in disguise?"
Xu Linglong’s clone didn’t answer immediately. After a pause, the originally vacant eyes suddenly gained a hint of life, and the corners of her expressionless mouth curved upward:
"The Chu Xingchen on the ship is shielded by the Primordial Chaos Twin Spirit Beads. Without fighting your way to his front, there’s no way to tell true from false."
"However, Xie Lingyu is the genuine article."
"So—guess whether Chu Xingchen would throw his Dao Companion and Xuanqing Heavenly Sect’s treasure onto a ship drifting in the East Sea, just to lure us into making a move?"
Boluo’s face didn’t change, though his eyes flickered with uncertainty. He rubbed his chin gently and said in a low voice:
"Chu Xingchen is forcing our hand? There must be other Tribulation Transcendence cultivators on his side... Send too few and we walk into a trap. Send too many, and if they expose our base, everything is lost."
"What if we ignore Chu Xingchen? Might he have some hidden move I don’t know about?"
"If we don’t go, could we suffer even greater losses? But out in the East Sea, the only one who truly matters is you."
Xu Linglong listened to Boluo’s words and let out a cold laugh:
"Isn’t the situation already perfectly clear? Losing one of me won’t change the big picture. I’ll show myself and try to lure Chu Xingchen, and see if I can pull Bai Xuanling and Huang Miao away from here."
"Don’t worry, Boluo—I’ll make sure my death is worth every bit of it, so your grand strategy goes off without a hitch."
Boluo understood well enough that these words carried their share of sarcasm.
But setting aside the sarcasm, this really was the best strategy.
It kept Chu Xingchen busy, guarded against his extra maneuvers, and if it managed to draw Bai Xuanling and Huang Miao’s attention, even better—though the chances were slim.
The only downside was that Xu Linglong might have to die a time or two.
As for whether losing one Xu Linglong was acceptable—
Boluo’s honest thought was: What’s not to accept?
One of the Eight Celestial Demons, Bai Bo, had already died without causing any irreversible damage to the overall situation. By comparison, Xu Linglong was naturally the same.
But the problem was... Xu Linglong might not actually be willing to try dying.
Moreover, this was a critical moment. There was no need to say things that would only provoke dissatisfaction—they served no purpose besides making things worse.
Boluo put on a smile and said in a relaxed tone:
"That’s a bit heavy-handed. Your death would be the greatest loss—a Celestial Demon is not something that can be easily replaced."
"Having Chu Xingchen roaming freely in the East Sea direction is truly disadvantageous for you. Let me see if I can employ some methods to interfere with his vision and attention, and perhaps let you come ashore from the East Sea for a time."
"However, the task of monitoring Chu Xingchen will still have to fall on you. The other Celestial Demons all have their assignments—we can’t spare any more resources."
"You have clones. As long as you hide your true body, the monitoring should be reasonably safe."
Xu Linglong let out a cold snort and said nothing more.
Boluo watched two streaks of rainbow light vanish into the distance, leaving only the formidable Dao resonance still lingering in the sky. Then he retrieved a strange, prism-shaped crystal in dark purple from his spatial ring and offered it to Xu Linglong:
"Take this with you personally. Inside is something I’ve prepared. Don’t use it unless things are absolutely desperate."
"Of course, if you don’t trust me, you don’t have to use it. But try to keep it on you. If you truly reach a dead end, there’s no harm in giving it a try."
Xu Linglong stared at the prism crystal in Boluo’s hand. After a moment of hesitation, she reached out and took it. The next instant, the clone swallowed the crystal into its body like mud.
Boluo felt a measure of relief at this, then unconsciously formed a Buddhist hand seal:
"This matter is settled for now. If there are any issues, I’ll contact you again. Be careful out in the East Sea—I’ll begin preparations immediately."
Xu Linglong’s gaze lingered for a moment on the gesture in Boluo’s hand, but she didn’t answer. Her figure simply sank into the earth and vanished without a trace.
Boluo naturally noticed Xu Linglong’s stare. He looked down and saw the Buddhist seal he’d formed.
He chuckled softly, his tone thoroughly amused:
"This monk thing—really wasn’t for nothing."
Boluo dissolved the hand seal. His gaze gradually turned icy as he stared at the Dao resonance that still hadn’t fully dissipated in the distance.
Being a monk, he’d learned patience.
Being a monk, he’d learned to read minds.
Being a monk, he’d learned ruthlessness.
Being a monk, he’d learned karma.
Of the ten thousand great Daos, all are contained within karma.
All causes under heaven bear their corresponding fruits.
The Heavenly Dao had won once when its Principles collapsed back then, but it had also thereby offered a second chance.
A thorough upheaval. An irreversible opportunity.
Karma is fair—even the Heavenly Dao cannot escape it.
This monk thing really wasn’t for nothing.
