Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 409 - 386: Are You Afraid of Me? (1)
In the end, Dylan Heston didn’t kiss her. Instead, he just held her quietly for a moment.
Hearing his heavy breathing above her, her mind was a complete mess.
A light drizzle had started outside. Nancy Hughes glanced at it. "Um, maybe you should head back now?"
Dylan Heston grunted in agreement. "I’ll come pick you up tomorrow morning."
"Oh."
Nancy Hughes kept her head down as she saw him to the door.
Dylan Heston kissed her forehead before he left.
After Dylan Heston left, Nancy Hughes stared blankly at the closed door. ’Are we together now?’
’An hour. That’s enough time for him to get from my apartment to his.’
Nancy Hughes lay sprawled on her bed, her phone resting on the pillow beside her.
She closed her eyes, muttering to herself, trying to keep from looking at it.
As the sun rose high in the sky, the person on the bed was jolted awake. Nancy Hughes shot bolt upright.
The first thing she did was scramble to check the time.
Eight o’clock. ’Oh god, I overslept again!’
She wanted to die. Grabbing at her hair, she flew out of bed.
She leaped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to wash up.
Ten frantic minutes later, she grabbed her bag and headed out the door.
She had just run down the stairs when she remembered a document she’d forgotten and had to turn back to get it.
The whole ordeal wasted another ten minutes, leaving her panting for breath.
She glanced down at her watch. It was already half-past the hour. She was definitely going to be late for work today.
’Forget it,’ she thought. ’I’ll just take a taxi.’
As she hurried outside, she thought she heard someone calling her name from behind.
She turned around, puzzled, and saw Dylan Heston standing in front of his car. She had been so focused on the time that she hadn’t noticed anyone else around.
"You..." She blinked, a little happy and a little surprised.
"I’m taking you to work. Get in!" After saying this, Dylan Heston ducked into the car.
Nancy Hughes scratched her head. ’Right, he did say that last night. I almost forgot.’
With no time to think about anything else, she quickly got into the passenger seat. "Hurry up and drive, I’m going to be late!"
"Seatbelt." The man beside her shot her a look, then pulled a breakfast from the back and handed it to her. "Woke up late?"
Nancy Hughes mumbled an affirmation and shot Dylan Heston a sideways glance. ’When you get down to it, this is all his fault.’
She had already been asleep last night when he called and said something that kept her wide awake for the rest of the night.
A blush slowly crept across her fair face as his words from last night’s call echoed in her ears. She silently lowered her head.
She snuck another peek at Dylan Heston’s expression, but he acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary.
It was rush hour, so even with Dylan Heston driving, she was still late for work.
Although Dylan Heston wasn’t as well-known in Portmire as Elliot Sheridan, he was still a public figure in his own right.
Nancy Hughes grew flustered, afraid that people would find out about her relationship with Dylan Heston. She had him stop the car at an intersection near her company, and then she hurriedly ran the rest of the way.
She collapsed onto her desk, panting. A colleague leaned over. "How come you’re late today?"
"I went to bed late last night and missed the company shuttle!" She swallowed hard, rested for a few minutes, then went to get a glass of water.
When she returned to her seat, a text message popped up on her phone, which was sitting on her desk.
It was from Dylan Heston: "You forgot your file!"
She immediately put down her phone and rummaged through her bag. Sure enough, it wasn’t there.
’Crap! I need that file later.’
Just as she was about to text Dylan Heston back, he called. "Should I bring it up, or are you coming down?"
She answered without a second thought, "I’ll come down! Just wait for me!"
A lot of the women at her company had a crush on men like Dylan Heston. To them, he was a mysterious figure; no one knew what he really did for a living or anything about his background.
And often, the more mysterious the man, the more attractive he was to women.
If they ever found out about her relationship with Dylan Heston, she would undoubtedly become public enemy number one for all the women in the company.
"If Mr. Gunn gets here, can you tell him I just stepped out to grab something? I’ll be right back up!"
Her colleague gave her an "OK" sign, and Nancy Hughes dashed out of the office.
As soon as she got out of the elevator, she pulled out her phone to call Dylan Heston and ask where he was waiting.
But before she could even dial, she looked up and saw him standing right at the main entrance.
People were constantly coming and going, but of all places, he just had to be standing in the most conspicuous spot.
Nancy Hughes wanted to turn and run. But just as she started to, her phone connected. "Where are you going?"
She was about to have a meltdown. "Why are you standing right at the main entrance?"
