For a moment, she was dumbfounded. Was he cooking something?

About ten minutes later, Elliot Sheridan emerged with a bowl of steaming noodles. "Hurry up and eat!"

"Did you really make this?" Georgia Thorne looked at him skeptically.

"Who else would have? You? Didn’t you say you haven’t eaten dinner? Now eat up, and don’t you dare leave a single bite!"

"Uh..." It was a massive bowl of noodles. Even if she were starving, there was no way she could finish this much.

Georgia Thorne hesitantly picked up her chopsticks. Regardless, this was Elliot Sheridan’s first time cooking, so she had to show some support.

She took a bite and was instantly horrified.

Knitting her delicate brows, she asked, "Why are the noodles sweet?"

"Sweet? But I put salt in!"

"Are you sure?!" Georgia Thorne pushed the bowl toward him. "This is the first time I’ve ever had sweet noodles!"

Elliot Sheridan frowned as well. He had no sense of taste, so he couldn’t tell the difference. To him, noodles were only about texture—whether they were chewy or not.

"Just throw it out!" He’d never eaten sweet noodles either. He felt a wave of defeat.

He picked up the bowl and started toward the kitchen. "Should we just order takeout?"

"It’s so late!" Georgia Thorne glanced at the time. "It’s fine. Sweet noodles it is!"

She took the bowl back from Elliot Sheridan and ate a few more mouthfuls. "It’s a little strange, but let’s just call it a new experience!"

"Stop eating. Give it to me!"

Georgia Thorne shielded the bowl. "There’s so much. It’d be a waste!"

She took a few more big bites. "But I can’t eat all this. You’re responsible for finishing the rest!"

For the following week, Georgia Thorne did indeed come home on time.

But as time went on, all her promises became meaningless.

Work got increasingly busy, and Georgia Thorne started working overtime every day, coming home very late.

The time she spent with him and the child grew shorter and shorter. Almost every word out of her mouth was about work.

He could let all that slide, but then she had the nerve to say she wanted to attend a training program.

It was halfway across Sinea, and she’d be gone for two months.

Early one morning, the entire company was shrouded in the fury of a certain big boss.

It should have been a peaceful day, but the CEO suddenly decided to patrol the offices, catching a large number of employees who were late or slacking off.

They were harshly reprimanded, and this month’s bonuses were docked.

This left the other employees walking on eggshells, afraid his wrath would turn on them.

After the patrol, he called an impromptu meeting.

It was called a meeting, but it was really a criticism session. Anyone Elliot Sheridan found displeasing was immediately chewed out.

By the end of the day, everyone knew not to cross Elliot Sheridan.

No one knew where Elliot Sheridan’s immense anger came from, but Owen Sawyer, who had been by his side for years, had an inkling.

Getting angry wasn’t in Elliot Sheridan’s nature. Usually, when a problem arose, he would simply solve it.

The only problem he couldn’t seem to solve was, perhaps, Georgia Thorne.

’I really have no idea what our boss’s wife did to make Mr. Sheridan so furious.’

’Sigh. It’s us underlings who suffer the consequences.’

When work finally ended, Elliot Sheridan found he didn’t want to go home.

The moment he got home, Georgia Thorne would definitely bring up the training program again.

He called Dylan Heston and Ethan Fletcher out for drinks.

But an hour later, Elliot Sheridan was still sitting in a corner, staring at his phone, with no intention of drinking at all.

Ethan Fletcher poured himself a drink. "What’s up with you? Didn’t you call us out for drinks?"

He hadn’t said a single word all evening, just stared at his phone.

Dylan Heston kicked Ethan Fletcher. "Can’t you tell? The happy couple had a fight. This guy is just stewing in his own misery."

Ethan Fletcher clicked his tongue. "I’m a single guy. How am I supposed to know these things?"

Elliot Sheridan had been in a foul mood all day.

More importantly, Georgia Thorne hadn’t even called him once, which made him even angrier.

After sitting there for an hour, he grew more and more restless. He finally stood up and started to leave. "I’m heading out."

"You’re leaving already? We haven’t even started drinking!" Ethan Fletcher yelled at his retreating back.

In response, Elliot Sheridan didn’t even turn his head, only quickening his pace.

Dylan Heston shot him a look. "You’re just asking for it, aren’t you?"

"How can you say that? He’s the one who asked us out for drinks, but he’s also the first to run off!"

He sped all the way home.

The house was pitch-black. ’It’s only seven. Is everyone already asleep?’

He turned on the lights and searched the entire house, but he couldn’t find Georgia Thorne or the child.

He called Sharon Ennis. "Mom, where are you right now?"

"I’m at home. Are you and Georgia coming over?"

’She’s not there.’

He pinched the bridge of his nose. "No, I was just calling to ask. I’m hanging up now!"

"Wait, wait..." Sharon Ennis’s voice faded as the call ended.

Georgia Thorne didn’t have many places to go. Besides the Sheridan Family home, there was Byron Shaw’s place.

He drove straight to Byron Shaw’s apartment.

He rang the doorbell. Byron Shaw opened it, looking displeased. "What are you doing here?"

"Where’s Georgia Thorne?"

"What?"

Elliot Sheridan barged into the apartment. "Isn’t Georgia Thorne here with you?"

"She’s not!" Byron Shaw stood at the door, not stopping him, letting him search. "Did you and Georgia have a fight?"

"No..."

"I’m a lawyer. I’ve seen the expressions of many criminals. Are you lying?" Byron Shaw poured him a glass of water, motioning for him to sit down and calm down.

"I guess so," Elliot Sheridan admitted honestly.

"You’ve been with Georgia longer than I have. You should know her personality. She responds to a gentle touch, not a heavy hand. You know better than I do that you should sit down and talk things out properly."

He did understand that. But when he was angry, he forgot everything.

"She’s just being unreasonable!"

"How is she being unreasonable?"

Elliot Sheridan took a sip of the warm water. "She wants to abandon our child and go away for two months."

"I don’t agree with how you’re putting that. She’s not abandoning the child, she’s just going away for two months."

"Nina is still little!"

"Don’t use the child to tie Georgia down. Nina is already a year and a half old; she can live on formula. Besides, it’s not like Georgia is going to the ends of the earth. You can take Nina to visit her!"

Elliot Sheridan’s face was dark. Byron Shaw clapped him on the shoulder. "If you don’t let her go, she’ll hold it against you for the rest of her life."

From the very beginning, Elliot Sheridan had disliked Byron Shaw. You could even say he detested him.

Because the man was too sharp, like an outsider looking in, seeing everything with perfect clarity.

Fortunately, Byron Shaw had never targeted him. Otherwise, things wouldn’t be as they were today.

"I’m heading back."

"Try to see reason soon."

Elliot Sheridan slammed the door hard on his way out. For a rare moment, a smile appeared on Byron Shaw’s face.

’Elliot Sheridan really is wrapped around Georgia Thorne’s little finger.’

Elliot Sheridan drove back to the Sheridan Family home. Everyone was already asleep.

Sure enough, Georgia Thorne was in her room. She must have had Sharon Ennis tell a little lie for her.

Georgia Thorne was sleeping on her side, holding Sheridan in her arms. Mother and daughter were both sleeping peacefully.

He sat down on the edge of the bed and reached out to stroke Georgia Thorne’s face.

Byron Shaw was right about one thing: Georgia Thorne responded to a gentle touch, not a heavy hand.

Georgia Thorne, half-asleep, felt someone touching her face and groggily opened her eyes.

"You’re back." Georgia Thorne habitually nuzzled against the palm of Elliot Sheridan’s hand.

Her thoughts were still hazy, and she had completely forgotten they were in the middle of a fight.

"Are you going to bed?"

"Yeah. You go ahead and sleep. I’m going to take a shower."

Georgia Thorne murmured her agreement and fell back asleep.

When Elliot Sheridan came out of the shower, Georgia Thorne was sleeping soundly.

Regarding the out-of-town training, Elliot Sheridan never said whether he agreed or disagreed.

Georgia Thorne was determined to go and had already registered.

On the day of her departure, Sharon Ennis took Georgia Thorne to the airport.

"Why isn’t Elliot here yet?" Sharon Ennis said anxiously, unable to get through to her son’s phone.

"He’s probably busy with something," she said, instinctively making an excuse for Elliot Sheridan. Holding Sheridan, she kissed her forehead. "Nina, Mommy won’t be home for a while. You have to be a good girl and listen to Daddy, understand?"

"And no being naughty or crying, or Mommy won’t like Nina anymore!"

Sheridan, still unaware that her mother was about to leave for a while, smiled, her eyes curving into little crescents.

"Mom, I’m going to go in now."

"Be careful on your way. Call us to let us know you’ve arrived safely."

"Okay, I will."

Sharon Ennis took the child from Georgia Thorne’s arms. The moment Sheridan left her mother, she let out a loud "WAAH!" and burst into tears.

She must have sensed her mother was leaving her, because her cries grew louder and louder, making Georgia Thorne hesitate to leave.

"Don’t cry, Nina, Grandma’s holding you!" Sharon Ennis cooed to the child, then looked up and said, "You should go."

Georgia Thorne nodded. In truth, she had agonized over the decision to attend the out-of-town training for a long time.

On one hand, she didn’t want to give up such a good opportunity; on the other, she couldn’t bear to leave her child.

Ever since Nina was born, she had seen her every day, holding her and comforting her. To suddenly be unable to see her for two months was, to say the least, heartbreaking.

What hurt the most was Elliot Sheridan. He must be truly angry, since he hadn’t even come to see her off.

Just as Georgia Thorne went inside, Elliot Sheridan arrived.

"What took you so long? Georgia just went in!"

"Traffic was bad," Elliot Sheridan said casually, his gaze drifting past the gate, but Georgia Thorne was already out of sight.

The child was still crying nonstop. Elliot Sheridan took her in his arms. "Stop crying."

Sheridan was very obedient to her father. When he told her to stop crying, she stopped.

She looked up at Elliot Sheridan with teary eyes. Father and daughter stared at each other for a long moment. Then, with a stern face, Elliot Sheridan said, "Your mother is heartless. She abandoned you."

Sheridan: "..."

Georgia Thorne arrived at her destination at noon. The first thing she did after getting off the plane was turn on her phone and call home.
