Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 329: Conch Isle’s Output
Back on Conch Isle, Faye Yardley was only with Franklin Yardley and Wyatt Thorne.
"Thorne, what do you think the island is still lacking? Today is the 24th. That residential complex across the way will be finished before 7 a.m. on the 28th. Another group will arrive then—at least ten times your current number. I’ll need you to handle organizing them."
Wyatt Thorne said with a smile, "There’s no need to be so formal, Island Master. That complex is quite large; it can certainly house 500 families. We could bring in even more people at once. Besides, the island’s development requires manpower."
Faye Yardley hummed. "Actually, I’m not the only option anymore."
She told him that Jay Jonas had also become an Island Master and explained the impact of guild upgrades on their headquarters, giving Wyatt Thorne a better understanding of the situation out there.
Wyatt Thorne nodded. "I know about that. They told me through Franklin. But it’s just a drop in the bucket compared to the entire population of Veridia. I still hope that you, Island Master, will consider taking in more people."
"Mm, I’ll consider it. To be honest, our current pace of development is already quite fast. An island isn’t built in a day."
"If you can, please build a fully equipped hospital on the island. We have doctors, but some illnesses can’t be treated with just herbal medicine." Of course, Wyatt Thorne understood better than Faye Yardley that development doesn’t happen in a single stroke.
But time was short for some matters. The system’s events were frequent, and each one claimed a number of lives. Even without events, rougher seas or more frequent appearances of aggressive marine creatures would naturally take their toll as well.
These were the facts laid out before them.
Faye Yardley smiled and agreed. ’A hospital... yes, we definitely need one. If we’re going to welcome new life on the island, a hospital is the best way to ensure the health of both mother and baby.’
"By the way, would you like to raise some chicks in your yard?"
Wyatt Thorne waved his hand dismissively. "If I could choose, I’d rather have a dog. I’m afraid I’d just end up killing the chicks."
"A dog? Of course. I’ll have Mr. Franklin go back to the raft and bring one over for you in a bit."
Of course, life here was missing many things, but Wyatt Thorne didn’t want to depend on the outside world—on Faye Yardley—for everything.
They hadn’t been able to help her with anything, yet she had already considered and done so much for them.
Sometimes, thinking about it made Wyatt Thorne feel a little ashamed.
"You’ve already cleared out those fields? That was fast! It looks like you’ve already planted something," Faye Yardley said, pointing to an open plot at the foot of the mountain, not far from the new complex.
"We have. Originally, you had to rely on fishing for treasure chests to get food. Even though your raft has a cultivation room now, the others still at sea are short on supplies. We can’t just keep relying on you; we want to plant more so we can support you in return." Wyatt Thorne genuinely wanted to achieve self-sufficiency first, then turn around and help those still stranded at sea.
Faye Yardley, of course, agreed with this line of thinking.
’It’s always best to be self-reliant.’
Conch Isle actually had a fair amount of natural resources. Both Franklin Yardley and Leo Sloan had mentioned that they organized teams to forage for edible wild vegetables.
They were even trying to cultivate some of the faster-growing ones, though there were no results to show for it yet. After all, they hadn’t been on the island for long.
Faye Yardley’s contributions to their daily lives had been immense. She provided them with water, electricity, and sewage disposal, so they had nothing to worry about on that front. Furthermore, the Protective Array kept many dangerous wild animals at bay.
This meant the adults could go out to work with peace of mind, knowing their children were safe playing at home together.
Compared to their previous life at sea, this place was practically a Sanctuary.
Wyatt Thorne suddenly asked, "By the way, are you sure it’s okay for Bella to lead the hunting party?"
"Bella Yardley is no ordinary person. She’s a natural-born warrior. In a fight, I’m not even sure I could win against her."
"She’s that good, huh? Are you going to leave her on the island, then?"
Faye Yardley shook her head. "I haven’t considered it. For now, the island’s own combat strength seems sufficient to handle most dangers. If things get really bad, you can just retreat into the safe zone inside the Protective Array. Bella will stay on my raft for the time being. I haven’t really decided on her future arrangements yet."
"That’s true. She’ll definitely grow faster by your side. Here, besides hunting, all she’d do is study and play with the other children."
Faye Yardley: ...
Faye Yardley had also come this time to check on the production progress of the wedding dresses.
’If it really takes a year to make one set, then her shop will only be able to handle two orders a year, tops.’
"Right, have any strangers docked since the pier was finished?"
"Not yet. We organize crews to go out to sea when the weather is good. From the day we arrived until today, it’s only been thirteen days total. Not even half a month."
"But it feels like it’s been so much longer."
"Now that you mention it, I feel the same way. Sometimes it really feels like we’ve been living here for a very long time, but it hasn’t even been two weeks."
Sometimes, a person’s perception of time can be wildly different from reality.
"Seeing you all living so settled here puts my mind at ease. Anyway, if anything comes up, just have Mr. Franklin call me."
"Come, let me show you around. You had those town blueprints drawn up, but the reality is a little different from the plan," said Wyatt Thorne. "Take the complex that’s under construction now. We were thinking about clearing that area for farmland first, but then you finished the job in a flash. The people who were on that land at the time even got to experience a bit of teleportation."
Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow. "Was that the moment they truly felt what it means to have their lives held in my hands?"
"Haha, you could put it that way. But it was good for them to experience it. It helps them understand their place better."
"Don’t worry, I’ll try not to do it again. Or at least, I’ll give you a heads-up so you can prepare yourselves."
"Hahaha... You’re a class act, Island Master."
"Heh heh."
Faye Yardley toured the area with Wyatt Thorne, then went with Leo Sloan to check on the fruit canning factory.
Sure enough, they were running low on usable glass jars, and the newly produced canned fruit needed to be dealt with by Faye Yardley.
"Mr. Sloan, have you tried the canned fruit yourselves? Why does every jar seem a little different?"
"We’ve tried a couple of jars. It’s true that each one is a bit different, but I can guarantee they’re all delicious."
Faye Yardley opened a jar, took out a spoon, and had a taste. A sweet and sour medley of natural fruit flavors exploded in her mouth. It was surprisingly delicious.
"This is really good."
