Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 320: One of the Island Master’s Rights
I originally thought today would be uneventful. The event hadn’t even officially ended, and I’d already left early. What could possibly happen?
But as it turned out, the moment you think you have nothing to do is exactly when a pile of problems are waiting for you.
Just as Faye Yardley was about to enter the training room, she received a request.
[Ding! Your employees have requested to return. Do you approve?]
Without a second thought, Faye Yardley denied the request.
’Are you kidding me? They may be my employees, but they’re still registered as sea-survival players. It’s the middle of a major system-wide event right now. If they came over, it would be like sending them straight into the event.’
’I’m not stupid. It would be strange if I agreed.’
As for what her two employees might think, did she have time to worry about that now?
Any sane person would agree that she’d made the right choice.
’Communicating with them is definitely a hassle, though. I need to get my hands on another All-World Communication Phone.’
’Damn it. I used to think I had too many phones, but now it’s painfully obvious I’m in short supply.’
’Come to think of it, everyone who works for me should really have one.’
’As for relying on letters... forget it.’
Just after she denied her employees’ request, she received a call from Franklin Yardley.
But the person who spoke was Leo Sloan. "Island Master, we’ve had a trial run at the fruit cannery. Fruit isn’t an issue; we organized a team and were able to find some on the island. The problem is we’re out of glass and glass jars. We don’t have a way to make glass from sand ourselves. Also, we need your instructions on what to do with the batch from our trial run."
Faye Yardley’s mind was reeling with a single question: Why?
ARGH...
’Why is being an Island Master so damn annoying? What have I even gotten out of it?’
’I got an island, that’s true enough. But at this rate, is it even worth it?!’
"These are all valid problems. Let me think about it and get back to you. And Mr. Sloan, you’re being far too formal with me now, even using honorifics."
"You’re the one working hard; it’s only right. We’re only able to live this stable life with our feet on solid ground because of you." Leo Sloan bowed gratefully. "Truly. If it weren’t for you, my family wouldn’t have been reunited, and we’d be spending every single day worrying about how to keep Annie and my parents alive and safe."
Faye Yardley waved her hand dismissively. "Hey now, don’t get all sentimental. It’s not like living on the island is completely without risk."
"It’s a world of difference from living on a raft, where you’re in danger anytime, anywhere."
After hanging up, Faye Yardley fell silent for a moment. Having Conch Isle had started to feel like a bit of a hassle, but after receiving someone’s sincere gratitude, she suddenly found herself filled with motivation again.
"Alright, I guess that phone call was just the pick-me-up I needed."
[Ding! Dear Island Master, because someone on your island has reached Tier Two in All Attributes through their own efforts, your Constitution +1.]
Holy crap!
’When the people on my island get stronger, I get stronger too?!’
’Then those major Island Masters with towns of millions... just how terrifyingly powerful must they be?!’
’So is that why Nora Nash is so powerful? Is it partly because her subordinates are also strong?’
’And is that why Juno has never given up being an Island Master, even though he clearly despises his own barren island for its lack of resources, and has so many other rich ventures?!’
Faye Yardley felt like she was finally starting to understand some of the so-called privileges of being an Island Master.
Happiness had come so suddenly, delivering an even more positive reward right after she’d been so touched.
’Does this count as good deeds being rewarded?’
Hehe~
When you’re happy, you naturally have more drive to get things done.
’Maybe I can add more people to my island... oh, no, first I should add some mid-rise apartment buildings.’
She opened the trading market and began searching for various housing construction blueprints.
It had to be said, with a larger population base, the variety of items found in treasure chests had greatly increased.
Even for housing construction blueprints, there were now all sorts of strange and wonderful designs available.
There were blueprints suitable for building on rafts, and, naturally, a smaller number suitable for building on land.
When the construction blueprint for an entire residential complex appeared before her, Faye Yardley could only feel that her previous thinking had been too conservative, her imagination too limited.
Although it was a blueprint for an entire complex, frankly, no one seemed interested. Its price was even lower than that of a Wooden House Upgrade Coupon meant for a raft.
However, the seller was clearly unwilling to sell it off cheaply, so it had been listed for two weeks.
Faye Yardley bought it directly with fruits, vegetables, and weapons, then began scouring the trading market for all the basic materials she would need.
After a moment’s thought, she also purchased a wall blueprint. She pulled up the island model, compared it to the town’s design, and planned a wall to enclose the original 50 houses, effectively creating a self-contained neighborhood.
She zoomed in on the model. The small figures in the bushes at the foot of the mountain, opposite the villa district, were instantly given the ’Heaven and Earth Great Shift’ treatment. After confirming no one was actually in that area, she used the residential complex blueprint on the large, empty plot of land. A white mist quickly rose, filled with the sounds of CLANGING and BANGING. A timer appeared above it, counting down from 71:59:59.
’It takes that long to finish?’
’Wasn’t this supposed to be done in a few minutes?’
’Whatever. Three days is still lightning-fast compared to having them build houses by hand on the island.’
’Also, since the island is short on glass, I’ll just build a glass factory.’
’I still have one automatic workshop blueprint, but the problem is, I don’t have a blueprint for making glass.’
A search of the trading market turned up nothing, which gave her a bit of a headache.
’Oh well, it’s not urgent anyway.’
As for the fruit preserves from the trial run, she decided to take them all to her shop in Lumina to be put on display and sold, regardless of whether they tasted good.
’As for the All-World Communication Phones, she wasn’t worried. Juno was her partner, after all. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for him to give her two, right?’
She checked the time and saw it was only 6:20 in the morning. Calling Juno at this hour would clearly be impolite.
’Oh well. Perfect time to head to the training room.’
"Kingston, want to join me for some combat training?"
She shouted to Cole Kensington, who had just returned from the sea riding Bella.
Cole Kensington immediately dismounted and came over. "Sure."
He was also dragging a full net, and when he dropped it in front of Faye Yardley, his face was filled with excitement, practically begging for praise.
Faye Yardley smiled and offered a few words of praise. In any case, Cole Kensington could just wait for Willow to deal with him; she couldn’t stand the slightest mess on the raft.
Three hours later, after leaving the training room, Faye Yardley went to wash up and make herself look clean, refreshed, and presentable before calling Juno.
He agreed quickly. He also mentioned that he had seen Laura Summers making clothes and said it was no wonder they were so High Level. He remarked that her work was extremely professional and not a skill an ordinary person could learn.
Perhaps the only tailors who could compare to her were the Spider-kin.
Unfortunately, the Spider-kin were not only few in number and difficult to communicate with, but they also worked exclusively for the GHA.
