Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead
Chapter 159 -158: Lady Barbra
"So, is this about the newspaper story by Pat?" She asks.
Eleanore turns quiet. It is about that cover story. But that’s not all. There is more to this. So many things happened in the last few months that she couldn’t keep inside her anymore.
"I think that was absolutely ridiculous. There is no way you could have ever done it." Daphne turns to the sky. "You are evil but not enough to want to kill someone." She adds.
"Thanks." Eleanore strangely feels at ease on hearing that. She is afterall the only person who ever said that she would never kill a person.
Even Eleanore believes that the original owner would never kill anyone. Lady Barbra too. There is no way Eleanore did that. There must be some kind of misunderstanding.
"Thank you for bringing me here, Lady Daphne."
Daphne gets up. "The pleasure is all mine, Duchess."
Eleanore stays there for a while longer. Until it was almost sunset. If she could, She didn’t wish to leave this place at all but she also knew that she could always come back, if need be.
Daphne bid her goodbye and Eleanore could finally see a hint of truth in her eyes. She was no longer fake and instead portrayed her true side.
Eleanore was too exhausted to have a word with anyone now. But that was not in her hand. For at the very foot of the gate to Lancaster mansion stood her asshole husband, who could blame her for every ridiculous thing.
She sighed and tried to walk past him but was stopped, when he threw his body in front of her as a means to block her.
"Did you eat anything?" He asked.
Eleanore had stormed out of this place without a single drop of water forget food.
She looked at him and then changed her path but he blocked it again.
"The dinner is ready early today. Let’s go have some food, right?" His shaky, uncertain tone was not enough to calm Eleanore’s anger down.
"I am not hungry." She says calmly, unwilling to lose her cool after that greater therapy she was able to experience at that mountain.
Again, she changed her path and as if Caelestis had woken up today and had made up his mind to annoy Eleanore. He stood in her path again.
"You should eat something." He insists.
She rolls her eyes, grits her teeth and pushes him out of her way. "I said, I am not hungry." She shouted before storming into the mansion.
With a greeting or a single smile to the butler and the head maid, she rushed up the stairs and opened the door to her room, which was closed by Marina from behind.
______
The very next day, early in the morning Victor visited Eleanore. Instead of meeting in his office, which is prominently close to Caelestis’ study. Meeting in her room and having a good conversation with the woman she had supposedly killed would obviously be better.
"I am unsure on how to start this conversation." Victor rubs his palm together as he chokes on his own discovery.
"I am all ears." Eleanore takes a deep breath as she sits on her sofa.
"I dug a bit deeper than how much I already knew." He began. "I don’t know if you remember this or not—"
"Please don’t judge me Victor, but I don’t know a thing." Eleanore leans back, as she exhales in annoyance. "If I knew it all, I wouldn’t have asked you to search answers for my question."
Victor pressed his lips, before starting to read out his research.
"Turns out Lady Barbara was once a good friend of yours. You were not three but four ladies who would stick together like bestfriends. It was all nice and good until—"
Eleanore’s eye’s narrowed. "Until?"
"—Until you found out that she too has a crush on Caelestis."
"She did?" That was the most shocking thing Eleanore had ever heard. There was no way the original Eleanore would have let that slide.
"You sidelined her and the three of you stopped talking to her."
Victor took a deep breath as he continued. "Days later, her dead body was found far away from the capital near the eastern shore."
"There is no way I would kill someone." She said in her defence.
"I know, but society believed it was you. They had witnessed your fights and knew that you were her only enemy."
"But Victor. It’s possible that some killed her and shifted the blame on me." She suggested, completely flabbergasted by all this rubbish.
She knew no matter how evil the original owner of this body was. She would never kill an insect. Even when she had pushed Stella down the balcony by mistake, it was not purposeful. It was an accident that she deeply regretted and died for.
"That might be possible. We might have to do an in depth investigation on that." He gets out of his seat. "Don’t worry. I believe you."
Eleanore nods as she sees him leave and is about to get out of the sofa as well.
"And Eleanore—"
She turns to him. "I would never judge you. No matter what you are ever going through. I will always stand by your side."
Saying this he leaves the room. His words send down a sense of relief in Eleanore.
