Chapter 155: Chapter 154: The Informant

Eleanore wakes up next morning with a new purpose. After dressing up, the first thing she does is go to Victor’s office, on the first floor, just a few rooms away from Caelestis’ study.

She eagerly prays to the god that Caelestis does not appear in front of her. This time, her prayers had been heard and fortunately he didn’t leave his study at all.

Eleanore softly knocked on Victor’s door, before opening it. He looks up and is surprised to find her in his office.

He sets aside his work and gets out of his seat. "Do you need something, Madam?" He asks, as he buttons up his coat and moves on to look for his hair ribbon.

"Don’t stop calling me Elle, Victor." She says, picking up the red ribbon, lying on the counter next to the door and hands it over to him.

He smiles, as he takes the ribbon and elegantly holds his hair into a loose ponytail and ties then tightly together.

"Your hair is beautiful." Eleanore’s eyes wouldn’t move from those brown, silky and shiny hair. She wondered how his hair is so healthy, while hers are dying everyday. She finds a chunk of fallen hair after hair wash and that puts her into a dilemma and fear of turning bald.

"Haha! Perhaps because my hair doesn’t go through a rough and tight hairstyle like yours." He guesses.

"Hmm! Possible." She laughs back, for there was no way she was going to give up on styling her hair. She loved it the most about her daily dress up routine.

Eleanore sits on the couch in the corner and Victor joins in. "Anyways, I am here with an important business." She grabs Victor’s attention almost instantly by saying those words with such urgency.

"How can I be of use?" He asks, as if feeling proud on being asked for help by Eleanore.

"Lady Barbra."

Only the name of this person had made Victor frown. Indicating Eleanore that the matter is definitely serious.

"I want to know about that incident." She leans forward. "Lately, I have been having a difficulty remembering my past memories. I want to know who she is, how we met and how she died. Most importantly, who killed her and how I am involved in it."

"Why do you want to dig into dead people, Elle?" He leans forward as well. "Dead don’t speak."

"Right? Dead people don’t, but the witnesses do." She remembers Flora’s words. There must be a reason why she mentioned ’all’ instead of just ’me’. "I want to know what happened, before a witness speaks up."

"I understand." Victor sighs. "However, your brother would know more than me. He was the one who shut everyone up."

"I know but we are not on talking terms." She looked like she was not willing to discuss any deeper over this topic, so Victor set it aside.

He gets out of his seat and looks at her. "Give me a week or something. I’ll dig everything out."

"You will?" Eleanore’s eyes widened. "Are you also an informant, aside from being an advisor and a secretory."

"You bet?" He winks and turns back to his table.

Eleanore smirks and rolls her eyes, wondering why this man is so workaholic and why the hell does he have so many professions. She gets out of her seat, feeling lazy even thinking about having their damn jobs to do every day.

"Elle?" Victor asks, without turning to her.

"Hmm?"

"Do you have anything to say to me?" He asks, anxiously waiting for her answer.

Eleanore opens her mouth to say something rubbish, when she realises the reason behind that question. He wants to know about the reason behind her marriage.

"No."

Victor sighs, as he acts like he is looking for something and Eleanore simply leaves the office, in awkwardness.

While she was in the corridor, crossing it to return back to her room. She comes across Caelestis. He had come out of his study for a short while, looking for some maid to clean it up, when he spots Eleanore coming out of Victor’s office.

Eleanore looks straight and ignores his eyes on her. She simply passes by and disappears from his side.

"My lord, may I enter." The maid, who had come to clean up the study, asked.

Caelestis nodded and opened the door wide, for her to get in. He gets back to his work, while the maid finishes off with the cleaning and walks to him.

"What’s wrong?" He asks, jotting some unknown words down on a document.

"I— ah—" She brings forward an old paper folded into a small square. " —Found this on the couch in the corner."

Caelestis looks up and takes it from her, before asking her to leave. Once his study had turned quite again. He opened the old paper, his eyes widening in surprise and humour.

He laughed out loud on reading those, absolute rubbish clauses and crooked words and wondered if this contract was originally written by Eleanore or was it Flora?

Something struck in his mind, that made him jolt out of his chair. He gently folded the paper, slid it in his inner pocket and bursted out of his study. The maid who was passing by flinched, as she saw him run into the hall and then start to ascend the large stairs. Running somewhere in a hurry and desperation.

The head maid came from behind and patted on the maids shoulder. "What’s wrong winny?"

Winny flinched again in shock.

"God! Winny you can’t keep getting scared so easily." Lilith points out.

"I’m sorry head maid, I was just stunned by the lord’s sudden appearance." She explains.

"What do you mean?"

"The lord. He rushed out of his study and went upstairs?" She explains more clearly.

"To the madam’s room?"

"I do not know, ma’am."

Lilith catches her falling forehead in her palm. She had been sensing a strange tension between them since morning and was afraid that another fight was coming through.
