Samsara Tower: Only I Know the Plot!
Chapter 512 510: Physical Fitness Test for Two Monsters
Fenric's agility attribute read 500—which, in human terms, meant he could move roughly fifty times faster than an ordinary person. Coupled with his anti-gravity ability, ordinary physics had very little effect on him. When he unleashed his full speed, it was terrifying.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Each impact sounded like thunder in the enormous testing hall. Fenric's feet struck the marble so violently that the floor cracked in spiderweb patterns. The air filled with the echo of a thousand hooves—so fast that onlookers could hardly track his movement.
Everyone watching was stunned. Even those who had seen strange things in the Samsara Tower were shocked—except for the bald man nearby. Saitama, however, only blinked once.
"!!"
Mohican stood frozen, speechless. The testers themselves forgot to stop the timer.
Finally, Fenric stopped and looked up at the proctor.
"Thirty seconds up, right?" he asked.
Startled awake, the proctor stammered, "Ah—yes! You're done. Rest for a moment. Next!"
The proctor stamped a full score beside "Mundo." No one knew exactly how many times Fenric had jumped in those thirty seconds—only that the displayed speed was undeniable.
Next up: Saitama.
"Ready—Start!"
Where Fenric's movement had been a blur, Saitama's was a force of nature. The hall reverberated with another sonic crack. The marble floor cleaved into deeper fissures; the impact pits looked almost like cratered footprints.
Afterimages multiplied around Saitama—so lifelike that nobody could tell which was real. The bald man's mobility, so quietly ordinary in appearance, had been deceptively immense.
This time, the crowd did not panic as much—Fenric's display had prepared them—yet many still broke out in cold sweat. Saitama, like Fenric, completed the test with a flawless score.
…
The second event: 1,500-meter run.
At the starter's signal, two bolts of speed launched from the line. Sonic booms tore the air once more, and the ground split as they raced. Fenric and Saitama tore down the track with inhuman velocity.
To the ordinary onlooker, their finishes were almost simultaneous—Saitama crossed the line first by a sliver, less than a tenth of a second ahead. In reality, Saitama's steady suppression and raw top-speed advantage gave him the edge. The 1,500 meters, however, was too short to demonstrate the full scale of the difference.
Both received top marks. Pineapple and Mohican exchanged anxious whispers—neither could believe they'd recommended someone who'd perform so spectacularly.
..
Next: weightlifting.
Six barbells stood before the participants, ranging from 200 kg to 1,000 kg. Fenric strode to the heaviest without hesitation. He lifted the 1,000 kg barbell above his head with one hand as if it were a wooden rod. A ripple of stunned murmurs swept the hall.
The proctor swallowed and, again, could only award full marks.
Saitama matched him—casually lifting the same 1,000 kg with one hand. The spectacle felt less like competition and more like a display of impossible strength. If the test's upper limit had been a hundred thousand kilograms, perhaps only Saitama could have shown the difference.
From there, the exams became almost ceremonial. Shot put — both men threw far beyond the field; the implement smashed through a distant wall. Vertical jump — both shattered the test roof. Reaction tests — both recorded zero mistakes, their eyes and reflexes moving faster than the machinery could respond.
At one point, the boxing strength testers didn't just max out—they broke. Two machines literally exploded from the impact of their strikes.
By the time Fenric and Saitama finished, the testing hall was a hush of awe and fear. Many candidates who'd come to try their luck chose to leave—this was not their level.
"Gentlemen," the exhausted proctor said at last, "your physical fitness tests are complete. Results will be announced later. Please prepare for the written examination in five minutes."
As the proctor left, Fenric noticed Saitama looking at him with mild curiosity. Fenric smiled and returned the look, then drifted toward the waiting area to prepare.
Mohican and Pineapple approached with reverent eyes.
"Mundo-san," Mohican whispered, "we can share some tips for the written test. There are tricks."
Fenric nodded and listened as they talked him through the typical format. Most of the written exam consisted of multiple-choice questions designed to measure loyalty to the Heroes Association and the candidate's political orientation—subtleties that could raise or lower the final assessment significantly.
Five minutes later, they were ushered into an exam room—rows of desks like a classroom. The tester distributed papers and issued standard warnings: no talking, no copying, immediate disqualification for cheating.
The first question displayed was a sample of the test's tone:
If you discovered someone spreading false accusations about the Heroes Association, what would you do?
A. Ignore it.
B. Intervene to stop them.
C. Call the police and let them handle it.
D. Investigate thoroughly—protect the innocent and punish the guilty.
Choices like that aimed to screen for candidates who would actively defend the Association's reputation. Fenric smiled inwardly—he finally understood why Saitama's written score in the original timeline had been so poor. With Saitama's blunt, justice-driven personality, he'd likely pick D, the principled but problematic option the Association preferred. For the Association, loyalty and ideological alignment mattered as much as ability.
Fenric answered deliberately, choosing B—a decision that showed proactive enforcement rather than grandstanding. If the Association valued discipline and visible action, B would score well.
