Chapter 313: Chapter 158: The So-Called Emergence, Searching for the Eternals! (Part 1)
Inside the narrow, ancient stone chamber of the forbidden library, the floating pale golden magical runes suddenly stagnated, their light seeming to freeze by an invisible force.
The moment the word "Emergence" fell, even the air seemed to solidify into cold stone.
"The Emergence?" Strange’s brows furrowed tightly. Beneath his sunken eye sockets, the heavy dark circles could not conceal the unprecedented solemnity in his eyes.
He exchanged a glance with Wong beside him. The latter’s usually honest and kind face was now written all over with confusion and vigilance.
"What is that? I have never seen this term in Kamar-Taj’s archives."
Wong’s voice carried a faintly perceptible dryness. His gaze stared fixedly at Alex, as if trying to dig the answer out of his face.
Alex’s gaze swept over their tense faces, ultimately landing on the projection hovering in the center of the stone chamber.
That towering six-eyed giant, the figure of the Celestial, exuded a suffocating oppressive might amidst the golden light of the rune magic.
Alex’s voice was calm, yet every word struck the hearts of the two sorcerers like a heavy hammer.
"Of course you haven’t seen it, because everyone who has is already dead. That is the core secret of the Celestials, concerning the continuation of their species."
He raised his hand and pointed at the giant in the projection.
"The Celestials are not merely observers or interlopers of the universe, as you believe. They are sowers, and even more so, harvesters. Have you ever wondered how new members of such a powerful race are born?"
Alex paused, his gaze suddenly becoming as sharp as a blade, piercing the suffocating stillness of the stone chamber.
"Every newborn Celestial requires an incubation pod."
Strange’s pupils contracted slightly. He recalled the dying mockery of some hell demons before he devoured them.
"Strange, how long do you think you can live? Soon, the Celestials will..."
Wong’s Adam’s apple bobbed violently, and fine cold sweat seeped from his forehead. The archive in his hand felt as if it weighed a thousand pounds.
"What exactly is this incubation pod?"
Alex’s voice was as cold as ice, revealing the cruelest truth of the Celestials word by word.
"The so-called incubation pod is a planet possessing sufficient intelligent life—such as the very planet beneath our feet."
"At the dawn of a planet’s birth, they implant the seed of a Celestial deep within its core."
"The life energy, sparks of intelligence, and emotional fluctuations generated by the billions of living beings thriving on the planet through birth, aging, illness, and death—all of these serve as the nutrients supplying the growth of that seed!"
The air within the stone chamber seemed to be instantly drained, and even the light of the runes dimmed somewhat.
The corner of Strange’s eye twitched violently. The magical power surrounding his body dissipated uncontrollably, carrying the scorching aura unique to dark magic that permeated the entire secret chamber.
Wong gritted his teeth tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force. Cold sweat slid down his cheeks and dripped onto the heavy cover of the archive, spreading into a small wet stain.
"When the life energy on the planet accumulates to a critical point..."
Alex’s voice sounded like a doomsday sentence, devoid of any warmth.
"...that is when the Emergence occurs. A new generation of Celestial will break out of its shell. The moment it is born, massive power will tear apart the earth’s crust, releasing a devastating energy shockwave. The entire planet will completely disintegrate in its birth ceremony, turning into cosmic dust."
"All life on the planet—humans, animals, plants, and even the Earth you protect itself—will become the ultimate sacrifices for its growth, turning to ash and smoke."
Alex’s gaze swept over the two deathly pale men before finally returning to the Celestial’s projection, his tone heavy.
"And the Earth beneath our feet is one of the chosen incubation pods. The Celestial progenitor who took the Soul Stone probably didn’t just consider the stone evil; the deeper reason was to prevent any force from interfering with its child’s gestation in the Earth’s core. They need to ensure sufficient nutrients until the moment of the harvest."
Dead silence!
Strange felt a chill rush straight up his spine to the top of his head, even colder than the dark magical power entwined within his body.
He had expended countless costs seeking to reverse death, even not hesitating to fall into darkness, yet he never imagined that the entire Earth, along with its six billion living beings, had long been predetermined as food for a higher existence.
Kamar-Taj’s mission of protecting the Earth from dimensional erosion seemed so insignificant and ridiculous in the face of the Emergence.
"Bang!"
