Chapter 1083: Chapter 171: Troublesome Blizzard (11)
"Alright, let’s take a break!"
"No, no need, I’m fine Hua... cough cough." Trying to persist, but Tang Xiaoquan’s body clearly couldn’t support his desire.
Watching the young man grit his teeth and persevere, Hua Biao sighed lightly, thinking: I told you not to follow, but you insisted. You’re just asking for trouble.
However, Tang Xiaoquan’s unwillingness to give up was quite admirable to Hua Biao.
In life, everyone has their shortcomings.
But if you lose your fighting spirit, your life is over.
That’s why they say, when people are poor, their spirit isn’t poor.
Knowing Tang Xiaoquan’s personality, Hua Biao understood that if he directly advised him to rest, Tang Xiaoquan would surely refuse.
So he waved his hand, "I wasn’t talking about you. It’s me who’s done. I need a break!"
After all, three hours had passed, and it was indeed time for a supply break, especially in such harsh blizzard conditions.
After speaking, Hua Biao didn’t wait for Tang Xiaoquan’s reaction. He directly laid his backpack on the ground, took out a portable tent, and began to set it up.
Hua Biao, being a seasoned survivalist, found the tent setup a breeze.
Tang Xiaoquan initially wanted to offer a hand, but seeing Hua Biao’s expert technique, he opted to stay put rather than potentially cause trouble.
In no more than four minutes, Hua Biao finished setting up the tent.
After finishing, he signaled Tang Xiaoquan to enter first.
Then followed in himself.
He took out the camping stove, lit it, and boiled some water.
He then poured a cup of hot tea for both himself and Tang Xiaoquan, and they each held their cups to warm their hands and rest.
"We have half an hour to rest, make sure to relax. I’ll keep watch."
"Oh, okay!" Knowing his physical limits, Tang Xiaoquan didn’t boast and immediately found a comfortable position to lie down, relieving his lead-heavy legs.
Time ticked away, and before long, the half-hour was up.
Just as Tang Xiaoquan began to feel a touch of comfort, Hua Biao called for him to get up and prepare to move.
"What torture!" Tang Xiaoquan took a deep breath, wishing he could just fall asleep.
Yet the thought of his loved ones potentially going hungry kilometers away dispelled any laziness in his heart.
Grinding his teeth, he crawled out of the sleeping bag; though he rested briefly, his body’s fatigue hadn’t lessened, and the soreness intensified.
"Make haste!" Hua Biao was used to sticking to schedules.
To them as soldiers, time equaled life.
Thus, Hua Biao didn’t dwell on Tang Xiaoquan’s discomfort.
According to him, "I’ve given you half an hour to rest. If you haven’t rested well, that’s your problem."
When it’s time to move, you must get up.
Tang Xiaoquan, unwilling to be a burden, gritted his teeth against his aching legs, hefted his backpack, and exited the tent.
Outside, the biting cold winds gave Tang Xiaoquan a shiver.
Hua Biao was swift and tidy at dismantling and packing, finishing in no time.
Once done, Hua Biao spared no words, directly lifting and grabbing a bamboo stick, issuing the order: "Let’s go!"
"Ah!" Inside the truck, Wei Dazhuang blew into his cupped hands to warm them.
He didn’t feel too comfortable crammed in the driver’s seat, though it was better than facing the ice and snow, having windows and doors made indoors bearable.
"Want some?" Luo Baochun timely offered his cup of tea.
Wei Dazhuang didn’t hesitate, taking it and downing a couple of gulps.
"Wonder how Quan and them are doing? It’s a rough road out there!"
Luo Baochun’s query mirrored Hu Xiaodong’s concerns; since their departure, he’d been anxious, feeling something lurking.
He turned the wiper lever again, the wipers moving like an elderly "cow cart," laboring to clear thick snow from the windshield.
Nothing unusual, Hu Xiaodong switched the car off.
Picking up the tablet from the dashboard, Hu Xiaodong boredly opened the surveillance software.
Yet due to design flaws, the camera atop the trailer was as blind as ever.
Frustrated, Hu Xiaodong tossed it aside.
Nearby, Huo Yuankai sat silently, deep in thought.
Similarly, the team wasn’t solely worried; Old Xu and Lei Tong far in the ruined city were equally unsettled.
Especially Old Xu, aware of the team’s character. To save him, they’d surely disregard the storm, trying all means to rescue him and Lei Tong.
But potential dangers were immense, risking rescuers instead falling into peril.
"Commander, wonder how Xiaodong and them are doing? This damn weather came at such a bad time."
An entire night of snowfall turned the city white, catching Lei Tong and Old Xu off guard.
Old Xu sighed, stood up, walked to the window, lifted the curtains, and peered outside.
Zombies still lingered downstairs; Old Xu mulled that escaping at that moment might actually be possible.
After all, thick snow seriously hampered zombie movement.
But rethinking it, he abandoned the idea.
Since the snow hinders zombies, it similarly hinders him and Lei Tong.
Besides, the number of creatures in the corridor remains uncertain; judging from the past two days’ commotion, it’s likely not few.
It’s safer to hold ground and await rescue; even if they could run now, staying ensures comrades won’t race here for nothing. Old Xu felt staying was best.
Hope everything goes smoothly; don’t let anything happen to you.
With heartfelt wishes, Old Xu’s blessing floated amidst the snowflakes.
Tang Xiaoquan, unknowingly trudging through the snow for over an hour.
Exhausted! Bone-deep exhaustion! Every step felt like plunging into an abyss.
He felt on the brink of death, with fatigue trumped by uncontainable cold.
The frigid wind relentlessly battered Tang Xiaoquan’s body; even cocooned in a down jacket and wool hat, he trembled.
His muscles and bones seemed foreign, long lost any sensation.
Yet, Tang Xiaoquan persisted, inching forward step by step.
Hua Biao watched it all silently.
Seeing Tang Xiaoquan struggling, he refrained from stopping him or even assisting.
He knew Tang Xiaoquan was holding onto a breath; if he intervened, Tang Xiaoquan might lose his willpower to continue.
Press on with determination! Look ahead! This is the cost of perseverance.
