Chapter 1056: Chapter 1041: Laying Low (7)
"Go ahead, open the window halfway!"
Old Xu’s eyes quickly scanned the text message, and then instructed Lei Tong.
"Got it!" Lei Tong immediately stood up and quickly walked to the window to open it halfway.
"Did they ask us to do this?" Lei Tong asked casually after completing the task.
Old Xu nodded in response, "Yes, they want to confirm our location."
"Damn! Do they plan to come over once they confirm our location?"
Lei Tong’s concern wasn’t unwarranted, but Old Xu was more inclined to believe that it was merely a simple confirmation.
With Hu Xiaodong and Tang Xiaoquan present, he felt the outside team would not act rashly.
Moreover, his first text message clearly described his condition and ordered them not to take risks.
"They might just want to verify the authenticity of the message. Lei, stick your head out the window but be careful not to let zombies see you."
"Understood, Captain, don’t worry."
Tang Xiaoquan anxiously held the binoculars, scoping the distance, but unexpectedly, it was Hu Xiaodong, whose eyesight was better, who first spotted the target.
Hu Xiaodong excitedly pointed, "There, over there, do you see? That building, the 8th floor, the south window is open!"
With Hu Xiaodong’s hint, Tang Xiaoquan also found the target location.
A window that was indeed half-open appeared, and more importantly, someone was inside...
"Hua, Hua..." Due to excitement, Tang Xiaoquan choked a bit, only after a few hesitant calls did he finally manage to say, "Hua Biao, are you watching? Did you see? That’s Lei! Haha, what did I say, they’re fine, they’re all still alive."
This time Tang Xiaoquan couldn’t remain calm. Seeing Lei Tong’s silhouette at the window was such a relief that it was hard to articulate.
It was an outpouring of emotions and a release of tension.
If Old Xu had not followed through with the text instructions this time, Tang Xiaoquan truly wouldn’t know how to handle the ensuing situation.
However, Hua Biao did not respond. Upon spotting Lei Tong, he immediately instructed Wang Qiang, "Qiang, quickly send them a message and ask where Old Xu is, why haven’t we seen him?"
Indeed, anxiety leads to chaos, and the mere presence of Lei Tong did not dispel Hua Biao’s concerns, but rather intensified them.
After all, their prior text message clearly mentioned Old Xu, and now only Lei Tong appeared, which inevitably aroused suspicion in the already worried Hua Biao.
"Understood!" In the past, Wang Qiang’s fiery temper would certainly ignore Hua Biao.
"Are you kidding me? You were just bothering me, and now you expect me to do something for you? No way!"
But the current Wang Qiang was entirely different, without any of his former temperament. Upon hearing Hua Biao’s somewhat forceful command on the radio, Wang Qiang quietly started sending instructions to Old Xu.
"Buzz buzz!" The ringtone sounded, Old Xu opened it with a smile.
If initially he was unsure about the purpose of opening the window, this follow-up message confirmed his assumption.
They’re not planning to come over, it’s just a simple confirmation.
Standing up, a calm Old Xu leisurely walked over to the window.
Simultaneously, his fingers tapped away as he composed a message: "Can you see me? I told you, we’re safe, there’s no need to worry."
Seeing Old Xu’s image in the lens, Hua Biao sighed in relief, then leaned back on his chair.
Still alive! They are all still alive!
Even more relieved than Hua Biao was Tang Xiaoquan, but he knew now wasn’t the time to be completely at ease.
There were many matters he needed to confirm with Old Xu.
"Qiang, please send Old Xu another message asking about their building’s situation."
Considering the complex situation outside, Tang Xiaoquan dismissed the idea of going to the rear compartment.
Wang Qiang continued to fulfill his role as a messenger, sending Tang Xiaoquan’s words verbatim.
"Captain, another message arrived, what does it say?"
"They’re asking about the building’s situation."
"We should be careful with our words, so Hua Biao doesn’t overthink and cause issues."
Old Xu nodded, he had a grasp of the situation, and after some fiddling, Wang Qiang received and reported back from the other side: "Old Xu said the zombies are blocking their exit. They can’t leave for now, but they have plenty of supplies at home, telling us not to worry."
"Plenty of supplies? How plentiful? Qiang, ask how long they can hold out!" Hua Biao, fresh from his excitement, immediately requested.
"A month, Old Xu said they’ve gathered enough supplies to last a month."
Frowning slightly, Tang Xiaoquan stroked his chin and thought, could they really hold out that long?
But soon enough, Tang Xiaoquan felt relieved, as Old Xu and Lei were currently in a resident’s home.
Since it’s a home, there must be food stored. Even if there isn’t a stockpile, there are bound to be some provisions available.
Moreover, Old Xu and Lei aren’t ordinary people, they’re survival experts with exceptional skills.
So while Tang Xiaoquan wasn’t certain they could hold out for a month, he believed they should be fine for a while given their capabilities and status.
"Qiang, ask Old Xu if they have any ideas for breaking out?"
Considering the outside situation, Tang Xiaoquan currently had no solutions to help Old Xu escape.
He hoped Old Xu himself had some constructive suggestions, given he’s the one in the trap, his judgment about the building would surely be more comprehensive than Tang Xiaoquan’s.
Seeing the inquiry from outside, Old Xu chuckled bitterly and scratched his head. Evidently, Tang Xiaoquan’s question stumped him.
Breaking out? Old Xu had no idea.
To be precise, it’s not that he didn’t have a plan, but he hadn’t considered breaking out at all.
If he had to give any constructive advice, his only suggestion would be to wait.
"He’s responded! Old Xu replied! He said to wait!"
"Wait!? Wait for what? Any specifics?"
"Specifically, wait for the zombies to leave on their own. Old Xu said he has plenty of supplies on hand, and can hold out for over a month. After that, the zombies are likely to leave, and then he’ll find an opportunity to break out."
"Whew~" Tang Xiaoquan sighed and scratched his head.
Old Xu’s solution didn’t seem viable to him. Without external help, counting on those nearly hundred zombies to leave was frankly as unrealistic as expecting a miracle.
"Another message from Old Xu."
Just as Tang Xiaoquan was fretting over what to do, Wang Qiang’s voice came through the radio again.
"What’s Old Xu saying now?" Straightening up, Tang Xiaoquan asked urgently.
"Old Xu said not to stay here, that we should continue the task we came for. He mentioned they would figure out an escape plan themselves."
