Chapter 1049: Chapter 1034: Do You Have the Guts? (12)

"It seems like they’ve gone down!"

The noise outside was clearly heard by Old Xu and Lei Tong, but to prevent any deception by the other side, the two men did not take further action.

"Let’s wait a bit longer!" To be safe, Old Xu signaled Lei Tong not to move.

They continued like this for over 5 minutes, until they could no longer hear the voices of Hu Chao’s group downstairs, and only then did Old Xu finally relax.

Judging by the time, Hu Chao must either go in or retreat, and either way, they would inevitably face zombie attacks.

Combining this with the screams heard earlier, Old Xu felt that the 5-minute wait was enough.

Although he couldn’t guarantee 100% that all the zombies had wiped out Hu Chao’s gang, he was at least certain that the latter was no longer a threat to harass or attack them.

One had to admit, Old Xu’s judgment was indeed very accurate.

Now that Hu Chao’s threat was lifted, the next step was to consider their own way out.

Exhaling deeply, Old Xu felt a weight lifted off his shoulders, even though they were still surrounded by zombies. At least for now, they were temporarily safe. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

"Huh, where’s that kid?" Lei Tong turned and scanned around, but could not find any trace of the boy.

Upon hearing this, Old Xu quickly looked around.

It must be noted that due to the urgency earlier, both he and Lei Tong had focused their attention on the main gate and did not look after the rescue boy.

Unexpectedly, in these short few minutes, the boy had disappeared without a trace.

Old Xu’s eyes quickly scanned the entire rooftop, which was not small and was filled with various water heater receivers.

And the rooftop was surrounded by a wall, which meant the boy couldn’t have left that way.

Based on this point, Old Xu immediately focused his gaze on a small room in the center of the area.

Raising his right hand, Old Xu pointed, and Lei Tong immediately understood, stepping forward swiftly.

As soon as he reached the spot, a black shadow shot out like an arrow. But to someone like Lei Tong, who was experienced, he didn’t panic at all, slightly shifting his body to easily dodge the black shadow’s assault.

"Ah, ah, woo woo."

Hearing the whimpering from behind, Lei Tong didn’t even need to look back to know that the attacker was indeed the rescue boy they were looking for.

The boy was stopped by Old Xu in his arms, yet instead of being grateful for Old Xu’s timely intervention, he relentlessly punched Old Xu’s chest with his fists.

Although the boy’s fists couldn’t cause any real harm to Old Xu, the force coming from his fists let Old Xu know that the boy was using all his strength.

Helpless! Old Xu truly felt helpless! To avoid hurting the boy, Old Xu slowly loosened his grip and then bent down, saying, "Hey, stop to listen to me first, okay? That uncle and I are not bad people, you don’t have to be afraid, we won’t hurt you."

Old Xu’s expression was gentle enough, yet the boy, due to preconceived notions, didn’t take his words seriously.

"Pah!" A spit hit Old Xu’s face, and Old Xu shook his head with a wry smile.

He had never married, much less had a child, so he really had no experience in dealing with kids.

As for Lei Tong, there’s even less need to mention. Those in the Sharp Blade Company were all bachelors, and it wouldn’t work pulling in any of them.

Wiping the spit off his face, Old Xu grinned slightly.

Indeed, he wasn’t angered by the boy’s spitting, but instead, he found himself interested in the boy.

Because Old Xu seemed to see a bit of himself in the boy from years ago—rebellious and unyielding, ready to fight to the end when confronted with something unacceptable.

"Little guy, you got quite the temper, what’s your name?"

"Uh, uh, woo woo."

"Don’t want to say? How about your age, can you tell me?"

"Uh, uh."

"Won’t say this either? Then what’s your relationship with that man?"

Well, Old Xu regretted it as soon as he said it.

He really didn’t expect that after hearing this, the boy immediately struggled and attacked like he was injected with adrenaline.

Once again, Old Xu was caught off guard and subjected to another bout of punches.

"Alright, alright, alright!" Unable to bear the boy’s violence, Old Xu used a little technique to bind the boy once more.

But the boy refused to stop, still violently twisting and shaking.

However, under the firm control of Old Xu’s solid hands, his struggle was nothing but futile resistance.

Yet in the midst of the boy’s struggling and cries, it seemed Old Xu noticed something.

Why did the boy keep going "uh, uh, ah, ah?"

If he was deliberately refusing to answer, he could simply stay silent.

From the boy’s intense reaction earlier, he was clearly venting his emotions.

Given this, he should have been cursing or bad-mouthing Old Xu, yet the boy continued only to make murmuring sounds.

Recalling the series of events at the Xianghe Restaurant, a bold thought suddenly popped into Old Xu’s mind: Could the boy possibly be mute!?

Old Xu’s assumption was bold, yet verifying this fact would be relatively troublesome.

After all, he couldn’t just directly ask the boy whether he was mute.

If the boy wasn’t, it would be fine, but if he was, it might cause some negative impact on the child.

Old Xu didn’t want to do that, and besides, whether the kid was mute or not didn’t make much difference to him.

His primary concern now was figuring out how to get out of the current predicament.

Handing the boy over to Lei Tong, since communicating with him in the short term was impossible, Old Xu decided to set it aside for now.

After all, the main problem right now was the zombies, even though they were currently safe.

But as the ancient saying goes, ’Live with worries, die in comfort.’

If no escape plan was gradually devised, in the end, even if the zombies left them alone, Old Xu, Lei Tong, and their group would die of thirst and hunger.

He first quickly walked to the edge of the wall and slowly leaned out to rapidly survey the situation below.

It was a fright to Old Xu, as a whole street of the building was surrounded by zombies layer upon layer.

Although not as overwhelming as the zombie surge in the school, based on the area and number, the zombies below were absolutely considerable in number.

Old Xu estimated that to eliminate this batch of creatures, it would take at least a full company’s strength to succeed.

Currently, counting everyone on his side, it was just him and Lei Tong, and if the boy was willing, perhaps adding a little more.

Breaking through by force was clearly hopeless, and Old Xu’s only hope now rested on his brothers who stayed outside.

He was very glad his brothers outside hadn’t impulsively charged forward to rescue him, but Old Xu couldn’t know that because of this matter, Tang Xiaoquan had already fallen into everyone’s crosshairs.

But no matter what, Tang Xiaoquan ultimately controlled the agitated Hua Biao under immense pressure.

From a certain perspective, he directly salvaged the fate of the entire team.

Unfortunately, his series of actions and words were not well-received by the currently hot-headed Hua Biao.

Old Xu rose and moved to the side wall, then looked down easily spotting their two vehicles.
