Chapter 1047: Chapter 1032: Do You Have the Guts? (10)
Tang Xiaoquan’s idea, frankly speaking, is not problematic. He made every effort to stop Hua Biao from acting impulsively, and that was absolutely correct.
But the issue is he overlooked a key point; unaware of the actual situation of the building, he overestimated Old Xu and Lei Tong’s predicament.
He felt that Xu and Lei would find a suitable place to hide at the first opportunity.
But the reality is...
"Captain, take cover behind, I’ve got this!" Lei Tong clenched the only weapon, Tiger’s Fang, with a furious glare, ready to fight.
Old Xu ignored Lei Tong’s words. He knew that in the past, with Lei Tong’s prowess, he could have fended off the intruders.
But now... honestly, he had no confidence.
Not to mention, this pathway stretched all the way to the end without a single hiding spot. Once the gangsters arrived, they wouldn’t even need to aim; just continuous firing, forming a bullet storm, would force Lei Tong and him to ’surrender’.
Fighting head-on was obviously not an option, but what other choice was there?
Looking at the tightly closed doors on both sides, Old Xu felt powerless.
This was the first time he faced a residential building with not a single open door. Old Xu was curious, during the apocalypse outbreak, were all the residents inside staying calmly at home?
Huh? While daydreaming, Old Xu suddenly noticed a mysterious aspect at the corridor’s end.
Without bothering to say more to Lei Tong, he hurriedly walked towards the back.
After passing by all the rooms on both sides, the corridor surprisingly opened up to reveal a small stairway.
The stairway extended upwards, with an iron door at the top. Old Xu glanced sideways and shouted in surprise, "Lei! Quick, come over here! Let’s get to the rooftop!"
"Damn! Trying to escape! Where do you think you’re going!" The loud yell interrupted Old Xu as Hu Chao led a group of gangsters who arrived just in time.
"Retreat! Lei! Don’t get tangled with them!"
Given the confines, Old Xu urgently signaled Lei Tong to retreat.
Old Xu didn’t need to elaborate; Lei Tong understood clearly that now was not the time to confront the gangsters.
But at this point, would Hu Chao, already in pursuit, let Lei Tong go easily? He decisively raised his Q weapon and fired at Lei Tong’s direction, "Trying to run? You bastards made me like this; you damn well need to die!"
Lei Tong was an experienced fighter, honed into a versatile combat machine by years of battling.
As soon as Hu Chao raised his weapon, even before Lei Tong’s mind registered an escape signal, his body instinctively moved to evade.
Lei Tong’s bulky frame didn’t hinder him from dodging with agility.
He quickly bent down and rolled backward right away.
"Click!" No firecracker-like sound occurred, and the bullets didn’t fire.
Once Lei Tong landed and heard the commotion in the distance, he immediately realized that Hu Chao had exhausted his bullets. Without hesitation, he got up and ran towards the back.
Missing the chance would mean losing it forever; unsure if the opponent held any spare clips, Lei Tong sprinted furiously.
Watching Lei Tong flee, Hu Chao fumed with rage.
He never would’ve thought that his half-loaded Q weapon would go silent at such a crucial moment.
"Damn! Why are you standing around? Hurry and chase him!"
He kicked the nearby gangster on the buttocks and shouted fiercely.
Screaming simultaneously, he reached into his pocket, pulling out the remaining five bullets and hastily reloading the clip.
Escape is one of the essential skills on the battlefield. Indeed, surviving is the main priority, regardless of the mission, especially for specialized units like scouts. If you can’t manage your own survival, how can you relay any findings back to HQ?
There’s no questioning Lei Tong’s ability to escape; he now sprinted at maximum speed, fueled by adrenaline.
He crossed a few dozen meters in an instant, reuniting with Old Xu, and they both dashed towards the rooftop.
Lei Tong fled desperately, while the gangsters pursued with all their might.
Now, their purpose wasn’t just fulfilling Hu Chao’s order; they were fighting for their own survival.
After all, the situation had escalated to such a point; those remaining gangsters were pushed into a dead end.
With no way back, their only choice was to keep moving forward.
"Ah!" Suddenly, a terrible scream echoed from downstairs, followed by a bloody gangster running up.
Hu Chao focused on reloading his Q weapon, startled by the scream.
As he lifted his gaze, he collided with the escaping underling gangster.
"Brother, brother!"
"Bang!" Too tense, Hu Chao involuntarily fired the gun.
Thus, the gangster desperately escaping the zombies met his fate at his leader’s gunpoint.
Hu Chao felt no remorse for his mistake, partly due to his lack of awareness and partly because the commotion from the ground left no room for regret.
Run! Hurry and run! Leaving the gangster lifeless, Hu Chao turned around and exerted all his strength to flee towards his crew’s escape route.
Once on the rooftop, Old Xu put down the youth, and then immediately paired up with Lei Tong to close the iron door.
They then grabbed the chain from the doorframe, twisting and wrapping it tightly to secure the door.
"Bang bang bang! Thump thump thump!"
Eventually, the pursuing gangsters were outsmarted and stood locked out.
"Open the door! Open it! You ****** open the door now!"
The gangsters no longer cared about venting their anger on Old Xu and others; they only hoped they would open the door and let them in.
Otherwise, further delay would mean being torn apart by bloodthirsty zombies.
But Old Xu and Lei Tong clearly wouldn’t let wolves through their door. Unsure of the opponent’s ammo count, Old Xu and Lei Tong guarded both sides of the iron door.
This was their last stronghold; losing it meant the end of everything.
For them, it was now a fight for survival.
It was either the gangsters or them who’d perish.
"Damn it! You better open the door now!"
With the footsteps closing in downstairs, the gangsters were like ants on a hot pan, either banging or pounding. Some even grabbed cleavers and hacked at the iron chain frantically.
However, the chain was as thick as a thumb, not something a dull blade could sever easily.
Trapped, the gangsters retreated downstairs, bumping into Hu Chao who dashed up desperately, all sobbing bitterly, "It’s over, Brother Chao, all over. Those two kids locked the iron door from inside, we’re trapped here."
"Useless! A bunch of useless bastards!" Hu Chao originally thought his men had subdued Old Xu and Lei Tong, only to find his crew trapped outside.
"Boss, yelling at us won’t help now. The real question is, what should we do?"
"Do what!? Make a cold salad! Damn it..." Running a hand over his head, Hu Chao glanced at the iron door above before gritting his teeth and waving his hand, "Let’s go! Downstairs!"
