Role Stealer: The Script Executioner
Chapter 110: The World Without a Name
This time, no one knew what the bell wanted.
So we kept walking.
The road stretched toward the pale sun, crossing a landscape that had not yet decided what it would become. There were no buildings. No rivers. No trees. Only soft golden ground beneath our feet and a sky that changed color whenever someone spoke.
When Jax complained, the sky turned gray.
When Sarah told him to stop, it turned blue.
When Aster laughed, silver clouds appeared above us.
Dorian noticed first.
"The world is responding to emotion."
Jax looked upward.
"Then I am going to feel hungry very loudly."
"You already do," Neri said.
The sky darkened.
A low rumble moved across the horizon.
Jax stopped.
"I believe the world has judged me unfairly."
"The world has known you for five minutes," Sarah said.
"That is enough time to form a complete opinion."
Kai walked ahead of us with Mira. He had been quiet since leaving the golden field. Not troubled. Not distant.
Listening.
Every few steps, he touched his chest where the silver lines had formed a small circle beneath his skin.
The circle no longer pulsed like a command.
It moved with his heartbeat.
His own heartbeat.
I watched him for a while before approaching.
"How does it feel?"
Kai glanced at me.
"What?"
"The mark."
"It feels like something is there."
"Does it hurt?"
"No."
"Does it speak?"
"Not in words."
"What does it do?"
He thought about the question.
"It reminds me that I am not empty."
I nodded.
"That is good."
"You sound surprised."
"I have spent a long time believing empty space was safer."
"Was it?"
"No."
Kai looked toward the pale horizon.
"What do you think this world will become?"
"Whatever people choose."
"That is not an answer."
"It is the only one."
He smiled slightly.
"You are starting to sound like Althea."
"That worries me."
"Why?"
"Because she always seems to know more than she says."
"Everyone here seems to know more than they say."
"The worlds were built from secrets."
"Then maybe this one can be built from answers."
The ground beneath us changed.
A narrow stream appeared across the road.
It had not been there a second earlier. Clear water flowed from nowhere, forming a small pool beside the path.
Jax ran toward it.
Sarah caught his collar.
"Do not drink from the unknown stream."
"I was going to inspect it."
"You were opening your mouth."
"That is how inspections begin."
Dorian knelt beside the water.
"There is no reflection."
Neri looked down.
The surface showed not our faces, but possible versions of us.
I saw myself wearing the black crown.
Kai saw himself standing alone inside the first world.
Mira saw a house beneath a blue sky.
Aster saw the faceless version of himself.
Jax saw a table covered in food.
He crouched closer.
"That one seems promising."
The water rippled.
A woman appeared in its reflection.
She had long silver hair and wore a green dress. Her face was unfamiliar, but her eyes were calm.
She stood on the other side of the stream.
No one had heard her approach.
"Do not drink," she said.
Jax stood.
"I was not going to."
Sarah looked at him.
"I was inspecting."
The woman ignored them.
Her gaze moved over the group until it reached me.
"You are the ones from the golden field."
Mira’s hand went to her sword.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Ilyra."
"Who made this world?"
"No one."
The answer unsettled Dorian.
"Every world has an origin."
"This one has an absence."
"What does that mean?"
Ilyra looked across the stream.
"It means this world was created by everything the other worlds refused to decide."
Aster studied her.
"Then it is not empty."
"No."
"What is it?"
"A beginning."
The pale sun above us moved slightly.
The landscape reacted.
Small blue flowers opened along the road.
Kai stepped toward the stream.
Ilyra looked at him.
"You carry a divided heart."
Kai stopped.
"It belongs to me."
"I did not say it did not."
"Then what do you want?"
"I want to know whether you intend to bring the old worlds with you."
Kai looked back at the road.
The golden field was no longer visible. Behind us, the path had become a line of white stones fading into the distance.
"We did not bring them."
"They came through you."
The circle beneath his skin brightened.
Ilyra continued.
"The first world lives in your memories. Lyradis lives in Vaelora’s choices. The Tower lives in Elias’s authority. The third world lives in Liora’s absence."
Kai’s expression tightened.
"Liora is alive."
"Alive is not the same as free."
"You do not know her."
"I know what the world remembers."
Mira stepped between them.
"You are speaking as if memory gives you the right to judge people."
Ilyra looked at her.
"It gives me no right."
"Then stop."
"I am not judging."
"What are you doing?"
"Warning you."
Aster glanced toward the horizon.
"About what?"
Ilyra pointed beyond the stream.
"The world has begun choosing."
The ground shook.
Far away, structures rose from the golden earth.
A house.
A bridge.
A tower.
A forest.
Then the forms collapsed again, unable to remain.
"The world is reflecting the people who walk through it," Ilyra said. "If your memories remain divided, the world will divide with them."
Dorian looked at me.
"An unstable reality."
"Not unstable," Ilyra said. "Uncommitted."
Jax raised a finger.
"I would like to formally support commitment."
Sarah sighed.
"You are not helping."
"Commitment is important."
The sky changed color.
For one moment, it became deep red.
A bell sounded in the distance.
Not the fifth bell.
A smaller one.
A bell that sounded like a heartbeat.
Ilyra looked toward the horizon.
"It has begun."
"What has?" I asked.
"The first city."
The golden earth split open.
A line of white stone rose from beneath it, forming a street. Buildings appeared around the street one by one. They were incomplete, their walls transparent, their doors opening into empty rooms.
People began appearing inside them.
Not stored minds.
Not versions.
Possibilities.
A girl with a wooden bird.
A man carrying a black crown.
A woman holding a sword.
A child with silver eyes.
They all looked toward us.
Kai stepped backward.
"They are not real."
Ilyra corrected him.
"They are not finished."
One of the figures walked out of the nearest house.
It was a young woman with dark hair and a red ribbon around her wrist.
She looked at Kai.
"You promised to come back."
Kai stared at her.
"I do not know you."
The woman smiled sadly.
"You will."
She turned toward me.
"Elias."
The name made the new street tremble.
Vaelora’s name followed from another unfinished house.
Then Liora’s.
Then Althea’s.
The world was forming itself from the names we carried.
Ilyra stepped into the road.
"If you remain here without choosing what belongs to you, the city will make the choice."
"What does it want?" Mira asked.
"It wants a story."
Aster looked at the unfinished buildings.
"Stories require endings."
"No," Ilyra said. "They require direction."
The dark-haired woman came closer.
"What is your direction?" she asked Kai.
He did not answer.
She looked at me.
"What is his?"
I stepped forward.
"He chooses for himself."
"That is not a direction."
"It is the beginning of one."
The woman’s face distorted.
For a moment, she became Liora.
Then Mira.
Then Vaelora.
Then someone I did not recognize.
The world was trying to understand us by borrowing the shapes we loved.
Kai’s circle flared.
He reached for my arm.
"Do not let it use them."
"How?"
"Say what they are not."
I understood.
I turned toward the city.
"Liora is not a home."
The street cracked.
"Vaelora is not a crown."
A red building collapsed.
"Mira is not a promise."
A bridge dissolved.
"Aster is not a witness."
The unfinished tower disappeared.
"Althea is not a world."
The pale sun flickered.
The figures in the streets began losing their borrowed faces.
Then I looked at Kai.
"And Kai is not a vessel."
The city stopped.
Every incomplete person turned toward us.
The dark-haired woman returned to her own shape.
She was no longer anyone I recognized.
She was simply a young woman with a red ribbon around her wrist.
She looked at me.
"What are they, then?"
The question was not hostile.
It was genuine.
I looked at the people beside me.
"Mira is a person who chooses to protect without owning."
Mira looked at me, surprised.
"Aster is a person who remembers without becoming trapped."
Aster lowered his eyes.
"Vaelora is a person learning to love without ruling."
The distant road toward Lyradis glowed faintly.
"Liora is a person who survived being left behind."
A white light appeared far away, beyond the third world.
"Althea is a person who gave others the right to choose."
The golden sky brightened.
"And Kai is a person who belongs to himself."
The circle in Kai’s chest opened.
Not outward.
Inward.
The silver light settled beneath his skin.
The new city began solidifying.
Its streets stopped changing.
The houses gained doors.
The buildings developed windows.
The people inside them became less transparent.
Ilyra watched.
"You have given the world direction."
"Is that enough?"
"For now."
Jax looked around.
"Are we staying?"
"No," Ilyra said.
"Excellent."
She looked toward a road forming beyond the city.
"But the road ahead is not for everyone."
Sarah frowned.
"Why?"
"Because the world is separating what belongs together from what only survived together."
Kai looked at me.
"What does that mean?"
Ilyra pointed toward the new roads.
Three paths opened.
The first led toward a city under silver trees.
Lyradis.
The second led toward the violet world.
The third led toward a blue-lit structure in the distance.
The original world.
But beside the third road, a fourth path appeared.
It was narrow and covered in dark flowers.
No city waited at its end.
Only a quiet house beneath a black sky.
Vaelora appeared beside it.
She had crossed from Lyradis without anyone noticing.
Her face was exhausted, but her eyes were clear.
"That road is mine," she said.
Ilyra nodded.
"It leads to the people who refused to forgive you."
Vaelora looked at me.
"I am going."
"I know."
"You could come."
"I could."
Her gaze lingered on mine.
"But you will not."
"Not yet."
The answer hurt her.
She accepted it anyway.
"Good."
She began walking down the dark-flowered road.
After several steps, she looked back.
"Ilias."
I had not heard her use the name before.
"Do not make this world into another place where you wait for someone else to decide what you are."
Then she continued.
The road closed behind her.
Kai watched until she disappeared.
"Do you love her?"
I looked toward the dark flowers.
"Yes."
Mira glanced at me.
"That was quick."
"It took several worlds."
Aster smiled faintly.
"Love is not the same as choosing someone."
"I know."
"What is it, then?"
I looked at the unfinished city.
"Remembering them without turning them into your future."
Kai nodded slowly.
"Then what happens when you meet someone who becomes your future?"
"I do not know."
The pale sun moved higher.
A new path appeared.
It did not lead to Lyradis, the original world, or the third world.
It led into the unfinished city.
At its end stood the girl with the red ribbon.
Ilyra looked toward her.
"The world has chosen its first resident."
The girl stepped forward.
"Can I stay?"
Ilyra nodded.
"What is your name?"
The girl looked at Kai.
He crouched beside her.
"Choose one."
She thought for a long moment.
Then she looked at the red ribbon around her wrist.
"Rhea."
The city accepted the name.
The road beneath her feet became solid.
Other unfinished people began choosing as well.
The new world was not built by authority.
It was built by names.
Kai stood.
"Where do we go?"
Ilyra looked toward the three remaining paths.
"Wherever you can begin without pretending the past did not happen."
Mira chose the road toward Lyradis.
"We should check on Vaelora."
Aster looked toward the third world.
"I should find Liora."
Dorian and Neri chose the blue-lit road.
"The records belong with the original world," Dorian said.
Sarah and Kael followed them.
Jax hesitated.
"I would like to choose the path with food."
A new road opened beside him.
It led to a small village with smoke rising from its chimneys.
Jax pointed.
"That one."
Sarah shook her head.
"You are impossible."
"But I am now impossible by choice."
One by one, they left.
I remained with Kai.
The unfinished city stretched around us.
Rhea stood in the nearest street, watching the buildings grow.
Kai looked toward the horizon.
"What about us?"
"What do you want?"
He did not answer immediately.
Then he said, "I want to see what it feels like to live somewhere that was not built for me."
Ilyra looked at him.
"Then you must leave the road."
"What?"
"The roads are made for returning."
Kai looked at the city.
"Where do we go?"
"Into the place between them."
A gap opened beyond the city.
No road led there.
No door.
No sign.
Only open land beneath a pale sky.
Kai reached for my hand.
This time, there was no command waiting in the air.
No system asked why.
No world demanded a price.
We stepped away from the roads together.
Behind us, the unfinished city began building itself.
Ahead of us, the unnamed world waited.
And for the first time, neither of us knew where we were going.
That was the point.
We kept walking.
