Chapter 682: Wish-Eater Root

Third Person’s POV

Eleanor waited until she had calmed down slightly before looking back at the strange root.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

Yet, after what Aurelia had just experienced, that smile looked almost devilish in her eyes.

"This is something I obtained during my travels in my younger days on the Bloom Haven Continent."

Eleanor’s eyes contained a faint nostalgic light as she continued.

"The continent of elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs, and dragons."

She carefully examined the twisted root before speaking again.

"This is a rare, gradeless Wish Eater Root that I obtained entirely by chance.

To tell you the truth, it was only after many years that I finally managed to appraise it and uncover its true name and information."

Aurelia’s expression remained wary as she glanced at the root.

"And, as you just experienced, it possesses the ability to completely drag a being’s consciousness into a dreamlike illusion constructed from the deepest and darkest desires hidden within their heart."

Eleanor’s expression became serious.

"My plan is to use its properties to corrupt the poison’s instincts and traces of that demonic creature’s will that might exist in it."

Aurelia frowned slightly.

"Corrupt the poison’s will?"

"Yes."

Eleanor nodded.

"I want to dye those instincts and that evil will with a veil of illusion, one powerful enough to make the poison perceive everything surrounding it as a threat."

"If it works, the poison itself should turn against anything within Ethan’s body that it perceives as a danger to its continued existence, causing it to infect and destroy the poison itself from within."

Aurelia stared at her for several seconds, trying to process the bizarre plan.

"Isn’t that... too far-fetched?"

"It is."

Eleanor didn’t try to deny it.

"This is purely experimental.

I have no guarantee that the potion will behave exactly as we want, or how this root’s attribute will affect the poison."

She paused, her gaze becoming firm.

"Everything is a guess at this point, but if we want to save Ethan, this is our only hope."

Aurelia’s expression became solemn.

"No."

Eleanor’s eyes sharpened.

"This will save him."

Her tone carried such absolute certainty that it left no room for hesitation.

Aurelia stared at her for a moment before the confusion and doubt in her eyes gradually disappeared and were replaced by the same determination.

Eleanor noticed the change and smiled with satisfaction.

"Then let’s get started."

The two women immediately began working.

They busied themselves within the potion room, carefully processing the various ingredients and experimenting with the strange properties of the Wish Eater Root while simultaneously incorporating the poisonous blue blood they had extracted earlier.

Neither of them dared to make even the slightest mistake.

Their work continued for hours without pause, with both women carefully refining the potion while constantly checking its reaction to the poisonous substance.

Every step had to be performed with absolute precision, as even a minor error could render the entire concoction useless, or potentially make it even more dangerous.

Time slowly passed, and before either of them realized it, evening had already arrived.

The door to the potion room finally opened, and Arlene stepped inside.

A visibly concerned and distressed expression covered her face, her mind still occupied by everything that had happened earlier.

The situation outside had also become increasingly troublesome.

The members of both parties had already begun clamoring about why they were wasting so much time staying cooped up in one place for a man who was already half dead.

Even her brother Erius seemed to be showing signs of abandoning Ethan after seeing his worsening condition.

Deep down, Erius couldn’t help but think that it was quite a pity.

Ethan was a capable slave whom his entire family had invested considerable effort into capturing and controlling, yet now he had been reduced to this state without giving them nearly enough returns for their investment.

The girl named Aria thought that it was quite a pity and also appeared to hesitantly agree with Erius, while people like Pebba, Reed, and Misril had already begun showing their dissatisfaction, openly cursing Ethan and the two women who seemed to be related to him.

They were demanding that their respective parties abandon the three of them and make haste to obtain the treasures hidden within this realm, which other parties were already trying hard to obtain.

Arlene had already been occupied with dealing with their complaints and preventing the situation from completely falling apart.

That was why she had finally decided to intrude into the potion room herself, as she wanted to see whether there was still any hope.

But the moment Arlene’s eyes fell upon what Eleanor was holding, every one of those thoughts vanished from her mind.

Inside a transparent glass vial was a strange, mystical potion.

It possessed a deep, viscous violet color, and faint fluctuations seemed to move through the liquid like something alive.

Even from a distance, Arlene could sense that it was extraordinary.

Her eyes widened.

"Is that the cure...?"

Eleanor and Aurelia turned toward her.

Both women looked exhausted.

Their hair was disheveled, their eyes were red from fatigue, yet there was an almost feverish excitement within their expressions.

"Yes!"

They answered simultaneously.

Without wasting any time, they carefully carried the potion into the main room.

Ethan was still lying unconscious.

His normally healthy complexion had become frighteningly pale, while bluish veins had spread across his skin like countless tiny branches.

Seeing his condition, Eleanor’s teeth clenched.

She gripped the vial tightly before taking a deep breath.

This was their only chance.

She could not afford to fail.

Eleanor closed her eyes and began chanting an obscure incantation.

The strange words echoed softly through the room.

As her soul energy fluctuated, the violet liquid inside the vial suddenly began to move.

Tssss...

Thin tendrils of dark purplish liquid slowly emerged from the vial.

They twisted through the air like living threads.

Yet instead of falling, they remained suspended as though guided by an invisible force.

It was then that Eleanor’s soul energy started to carefully guide them toward Ethan.
