By now, a heated bidding war had already erupted below.

Lu Yunque didn’t join in at first. He waited until only two or three bidders remained before he spoke up.

"Two hundred million!"

"Private Suite 1 bids two hundred million! Do I hear a higher bid? Two hundred million, going once!"

"Two hundred and ten million!"

"Two hundred and ten million! Private Suite 3 bids two hundred and ten million! Are there any higher bids!"

While the auctioneer was still encouraging people to bid, Lu Yunque unhesitatingly raised the price to two hundred and fifty million.

The smile on the auctioneer’s face below brightened considerably.

"I already have a set of rainbow-colored colorful diamonds at home. This price is getting too high, maybe we should just let it go."

To be honest, Yun Zijin wasn’t that fond of diamonds. She actually preferred jadeite, but good-quality jadeite was hard to come by.

"It’s fine. We haven’t reached its peak price yet."

Since Lu Yunque was bidding, he naturally had a good understanding of this blue diamond’s value.

A colorful diamond of this size was worth five hundred million at most. Any more than that wouldn’t be a good deal.

Lab-grown diamonds are a dime a dozen these days. Only large, natural, colorful diamonds can fetch a high price.

Seeing that Lu Yunque was still insistent on winning the auction, Yun Zijin could only let him do as he pleased.

"Just don’t go too crazy. Don’t be a sucker at your own family’s auction house."

Yun Zijin knew these items were likely consigned by other people to the Lu Family’s auction house. And while the Lu Family would get a commission, that was no reason for Lu Yunque to play the fool and overpay.

"Don’t worry. I’m a businessman. I would never make a deal that loses me money."

Lu Yunque gave Yun Zijin a reassuring look. The fact that he had built the Lu Family into the top of the four great families was proof that he was an exceptionally competent businessman.

When the cost no longer matched the reward, Lu Yunque would absolutely stop bidding. He wouldn’t be a fool.

"Alright then. You just be careful."

Since she couldn’t stop him, she would just let things take their course.

In the end, only Lu Yunque and the occupants of Private Suite 3 were left bidding. But Lu Yunque proved to be a step ahead, ultimately winning the natural blue diamond for four hundred and thirty million.

Before long, someone brought the natural blue diamond into their suite. Lu Yunque paid by card on the spot, and the blue diamond officially became his.

Lu Yunque pushed the box containing the blue diamond directly toward Yun Zijin. "This is for you."

Yun Zijin smiled faintly. "Mr. Lu is certainly a big spender."

A four-hundred-and-thirty-million-dollar diamond, given away just like that.

The staff member who was last to leave happened to hear Lu Yunque’s words, and their eyes instantly filled with envy.

’Other people’s boyfriends always seem so perfect. But when it comes to my own, all I feel is disappointment.’

’Look at what others have at twenty-one, then look at me... It’s too depressing to even think about.’

"When it comes to being a big spender, I can’t compare to Dijing’s ’little landlady’."

When it came to cash flow, if Yun Zijin claimed to be second, probably no one in all of Dijing would dare claim to be first.

Yun Zijin shot Lu Yunque a sidelong glance. She could tell he was teasing her, but she didn’t deny it.

By now, Yun Zijin had at least ten billion in her accounts. Come January, after she collected the next round of rent, that number would likely approach twenty billion.

Lu Yunque had given her a blue diamond, so Yun Zijin began flipping through the auction catalog, planning to bid on something for him as a gift in return.

She scanned the catalog from front to back, her eyes finally landing on a cufflink and brooch set made from Violet Jadeite.

Violet was a unisex color, but Yun Zijin felt this particular cufflink and brooch set was better suited for a man.

"Do you like this?"

Yun Zijin pointed to a picture of the cufflink and brooch set in the auction catalog for Lu Yunque to see.

Lu Yunque leaned toward Yun Zijin, getting a closer look at the picture she was pointing to.

The Violet Jadeite for this cufflink and brooch set was cut from the same single piece of jade. Because it wasn’t particularly large, it had been fashioned into a matching set.

But the color was rich and uniform, and it was a glassy, high-grade variety. Once made into jewelry, its price skyrocketed.

"If you’re buying it for me, I’ll love it."

Lu Yunque had already guessed what Yun Zijin was thinking; she wanted to give him this cufflink and brooch set in return for the blue diamond.

Lu Yunque, however, had a talent for jumping to the conclusions he wanted. ’A gift from my girlfriend... that’s practically a token of our love.’

Yun Zijin looked at Lu Yunque. "I’m asking you seriously. If you don’t like it, I can find something else."

This cufflink and brooch set certainly wouldn’t be as expensive as the blue diamond, but if a bidding war broke out, the price would be anything but low.

"I love it."

If Yun Zijin hadn’t decided to bid on it, Lu Yunque would have done so himself.

But since Yun Zijin wanted to win it for him as a gift, of course Lu Yunque would let her have her way.

"This lot is scheduled for later in the auction, so we might have to wait a while."

Lu Yunque had personally arranged the order for many of the lots, so he knew things others didn’t.

However, Lu Yunque wasn’t one to gossip; he knew what he could and couldn’t say.

"That’s fine. If there’s one thing I have, it’s time."

’The joy of not having a job to go to... who could possibly understand?’

Seeing that Yun Zijin had no objection, Lu Yunque didn’t say anything more.

For the rest of the time, however, he seemed unusually interested in the auction’s progress, even getting annoyed when a lot took too long to sell.

Yun Zijin found this strange. The time spent on each lot was more or less the same; she could even name a few that took longer.

His complaints only ceased when the cufflink and brooch set she had her eye on was finally brought out.

"It’s quite handsome."

Yun Zijin glanced at him. "Had a change of heart?"

’How can someone’s attitude change so drastically?’

"What change of heart? I’ve always been like this."

He was playing dumb.

Yun Zijin: ’There’s no waking a man who’s pretending to be asleep.’

Ignoring Lu Yunque, Yun Zijin turned her attention to the auction below.

The auctioneer finished his introduction, and the people on the main floor began bidding enthusiastically.

Much like diamond jewelry, the jadeite on the cufflinks and brooch featured a main stone in the center, surrounded by smaller accent stones, all cut from the same single piece of raw jadeite.

They weren’t as dazzling as diamonds, but their color was truly beautiful.

If it weren’t a men’s design, Yun Zijin would have wanted it for her own collection.

"Twenty million!"

"Thirty million!"

"Thirty-five million!"

The bids from the floor came one after another, but Yun Zijin didn’t join in just yet.

Just like Lu Yunque, she waited until only two or three bidders remained before finally entering the fray.

"Fifty million!"

Yun Zijin nearly doubled the price in a single jump. Some bidders dropped out, while others continued to match her.

"Fifty-one million!"

"Fifty-five million!"

"Sixty million!"

Unlike the others, who were raising the price in small increments, Yun Zijin made a huge leap with every bid.

Hearing Yun Zijin’s bid, the person in Private Suite 2 grew flustered and exasperated.

"Who the hell is in Private Suite 1? Why do they insist on fighting me for everything?"

It was the same with the blue diamond, and now it’s happening again with this Violet Jadeite cufflink and brooch set.

*

The others in the suite remained silent. ’Just think about why you’re in Private Suite 2, isn’t the reason obvious?’

"Sixty-one million!"
