Chapter 324: Carried Off with the Pot Before It’s Even Warmed Up

Situ Wenze rushed back to the banquet hall. Following the message his two juniors had sent him, he walked up to Yun Zijin.

The very first time he saw Yun Zijin, Situ Wenze had a sense of familiarity. So, after greeting some of the main guests, he had gone to call his aunt to reconfirm the details about his younger cousin.

He hadn’t expected his two juniors to feel that same sense of familiarity upon meeting Yun Zijin, and to even be so direct as to suggest a DNA test.

He also hadn’t expected Yun Zijin to agree so readily.

"Miss Yun, my two younger relatives can be a bit thoughtless. If they’ve offended you in any way, please forgive them."

Yun Zijin didn’t feel offended. She just wanted to get to the bottom of things.

"Not at all. They were very polite."

’Although they were a bit boisterous, Yun Zijin felt that, on the whole, the two were good-natured.’

Situ Wenze relaxed slightly upon hearing her words.

"Regarding what you discussed with them earlier... this isn’t the right place to talk. If you’re free tomorrow, Miss Yun, perhaps we can schedule a time to speak then?"

Lu Yunque finished his schmoozing, only to return and find Yun Zijin and Situ Wenze in what looked like a "very pleasant chat."

Situ Wenze thought, ’Has it occurred to you that I might, just maybe, be your cousin-in-law?’

However, Situ Wenze mischievously decided not to explain, instead casting an "ambiguous" glance at Yun Zijin. "To use a phrase from your Hua Country, ’A fair maiden is a gentleman’s desire.’"

Lu Yunque seethed.

"You have good taste, but it’s a shame. Zijin is already spoken for, so you should give up, Mr. Situ."

Yun Zijin blinked. She ultimately decided not to call Lu Yunque out on the spot, but she did signal for him to stop before he went too far.

’Otherwise... if it turned out she really was the daughter of Situ Wenze’s aunt, Lu Yunque’s words today would become an embarrassing story that Situ Wenze would tease him about for the rest of his life.’

Few people approached Yun Zijin directly, and many of those who did were only doing so to get to Lu Yunque.

’Yun Zijin didn’t mind. She was happy to have the peace and quiet.’

"So this is where you are. I went back to your previous spot and couldn’t find you."

After finishing a round of socializing, Li Yuexing had gone looking for Yun Zijin and Lu Yunque. He didn’t expect to return to their original spot and find it empty. It took him a bit of searching to find them here.

Li Yuexing sat down a couple of seats away from Yun Zijin and started sipping a glass of wine.

Soon after, Fu Ze and Sheng Hao also joined them. Whenever the four attended a banquet, they would habitually stick together.

This lineup drew even more attention to their corner.

However, Lu Yunque noticed that Fu Ze kept stealing glances at Yun Zijin throughout the evening.

He looked like he wanted to say something to her but ultimately remained silent.

Yun Zijin didn’t notice Fu Ze’s odd behavior; she was busy whispering with Lu Yunque the entire time.

After eating and drinking for a while, Yun Zijin needed to use the restroom.

Lu Yunque wanted to accompany her, but she refused.

’She was just going to the restroom; needing an escort was a bit much. She wasn’t that high-maintenance.’

Yun Zijin went to the restroom alone. Just as she was about to leave the stall, she heard someone outside mention her name. Her hand, which was reaching for the door, froze.
