Re:Zero: Wrath Route Yandere Emilia Watches the Projection
Chapter 60 60: Tomorrow will definitely be good weather
"Alright, alright — I came straight to you the moment I was done, didn't I?"
Natsuki Subaru stroked Emilia's silky silver hair, her warmth nestled against him, and felt a deep, settled contentment wash over his chest.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the manor.
Rem was walking down the corridor when she noticed that Ram, who had been walking shoulder-to-shoulder with her only moments ago, had stopped — and she had no idea when.
"Sister, is something wrong?"
Ram stood motionless for several seconds before seeming to register that Rem had spoken, and replied with her usual cool indifference.
"It's nothing… I just remembered something I need to tell Barusu tomorrow. Go on ahead, Rem."
Rem looked at Ram and hesitated.
Because in Rem's eyes, Ram had her eyes closed — and a faint red light was radiating from her entire body.
Clearly, this was what Ram looked like when she was using her Clairvoyance.
"But… all right. I understand, Sister."
Rem wavered for a moment, but ultimately chose to trust her sister and left.
She did feel a little puzzled, though. Ram's Clairvoyance worked by sharing the field of vision of any living creature whose wavelength aligned with hers.
So what, exactly, was her sister looking at right now?
...
"Okay, okay, Emilia-tan — you haven't forgotten, right?"
"I called you here tonight to finish the promise we left hanging yesterday."
Emilia was clinging to him and nuzzling against his chest with no sign of letting go anytime soon. Natsuki Subaru gave a helpless little pat to her back and spoke up to gently interrupt the moment.
"Ehh? But I want to stay close to Subaru a little longer~ We barely even got to see each other properly all day."
She said it, but she was obedient enough to lean back slightly — putting a little distance between her upper body and his, though her arms stayed firmly looped around his waist, keeping their embrace very much intact.
"That's fine… we can talk like this. It's not anything particularly serious, anyway."
Natsuki Subaru breathed in the faint, sweet scent drifting from Emilia and felt the pull of her quiet dependence on him — he was honestly a little reluctant to let the moment end, too.
But he shook his head quickly and pulled himself back together.
Hang on — had he been getting a little too lax lately? As someone destined to become a hero, he really couldn't keep losing himself in this kind of warmth and comfort forever.
Heh heh — well. That was what he told himself.
But everything else could wait until after this date with Emilia was done.
After all, this had been a wish he'd carried with him across all his memories!
True, he did have memories of going on a date with Emilia from the future timeline.
But that memory always felt flat somehow — like something was missing from it — and it had quietly become one of his bigger regrets.
This time, he was going to make this date unforgettable.
So vivid and alive that every time Emilia looked back on it in the years to come, she would remember the flutter in her chest, clear as day.
"So — what is it you wanted to tell me, Subaru?"
Emilia's curiosity was piqued; she pressed him eagerly.
Natsuki Subaru drew a long breath, met Emilia's expectant gaze head-on — and felt a flutter of nerves in his chest that he hadn't experienced in a long time.
At last, he opened his mouth. The words were right there — and then what actually came out was:
"The moon is beautiful tonight, isn't it."
The words left his mouth and even he blinked in surprise. On reflex, he turned to glance out the corridor window — and sure enough, a perfectly round moon hung in the night sky, its pale light spilling across the windowsill, softening the very air around it.
"Hm? The moon?"
Emilia tilted her head adorably, momentarily thrown by the sudden non sequitur. She didn't understand why Subaru had said that out of nowhere — but she was sweet about it, turning to follow his gaze out toward the night sky, and murmured softly in agreement.
"Mm… it really is beautiful."
After Emilia said that, the two of them both went quiet — minds going briefly blank at the same moment.
Wait. Why were they talking about the moon? Weren't they supposed to be discussing the promise?
In the instant their gazes drifted to the window, a small bird that had been circling near the corridor window for some time quietly alighted in a blind spot hidden behind one of the pillars.
It occasionally dipped its head to peck at its feathers, but for the most part, its small black eyes were fixed, unblinking, on the two figures embracing in the corridor.
"That's not what I meant! That… Emilia-tan, I have a request — will you hear me out?"
Natsuki Subaru snapped back to himself and hastily steered the conversation back on track, leaning forward slightly with an earnest look on his face.
"Mm, sure—"
"—So go on a date with me!"
Emilia's voice and Natsuki Subaru's rang out one after the other, catching him completely off guard.
"I hadn't even told you what the request was yet, Emilia-tan — why did you already say yes?"
He pressed a hand to his forehead — then in the very next second, the answer clicked and he broke into a helpless laugh.
"Because any request from Subaru is one I'll say yes to."
Emilia giggled softly behind her hand.
"And doesn't Subaru know that better than anyone?"
She looked at him with a smile full of warmth, teasing gently.
"I… "
Natsuki Subaru was left completely speechless. He could only scratch his head.
"Come to think of it, I'm not really sure what a 'date' is, you know?"
Emilia pressed a fingertip to her lower lip, tilting her head back in thought.
In her memories, the time she'd spent with Subaru at the manor hadn't been very long to begin with. Before she'd really had the chance to settle in and get comfortable around him, Subaru had, for reasons she still didn't fully understand, shut himself away in Lady Beatrice's Forbidden Archive for a long, long time.
And when they met again after that, Rem had already passed away from the curse…
So she was genuinely curious — what was a "date," in Subaru's eyes?
Would it be something fun?
"Heh heh heh — a man and a woman going out together, just the two of them — that's a date!"
Natsuki Subaru propped a hand under his chin and struck a few poses he privately thought looked pretty cool, doing his best to cover up the embarrassment threatening to creep onto his face.
"As for what happens during a date — only the goddess of romance herself would know!"
Emilia's eyes lit up instantly. She clapped her hands together softly, voice full of anticipation.
"Just the two of us, alone together with Subaru! That sounds wonderful!"
She followed up with the obvious question, brimming with curiosity.
"So, Subaru — where are we going for our date?"
"Well, there's this super cute little dog in the village near the manor… it'll probably still be there—"
Natsuki Subaru started enthusiastically enough — but mid-sentence, he thought of Elsa's strange behavior from before, which led him to think of Meili, and his voice grew uncertain.
"Ow ow ow — why are you pinching me, Emilia-tan?!"
A sharp sting on his cheek broke Subaru out of his thoughts. He looked down to find Emilia with two fingers pinching his left cheek, pressing with just a little too much intent.
"Ah? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Subaru!"
Emilia immediately let go, and her fingertips gently rubbed the reddened patch where she'd pinched him — her eyes flickering with a mix of panic and guilt.
"My body just… moved on its own before I knew what was happening…"
She pressed her lips together and explained in a small voice.
"It just felt like Subaru's mind had wandered off to some other girl, so… my hand sort of pinched you without me meaning to."
Natsuki Subaru, having been read perfectly, let out a couple of awkward coughs and hastily changed the subject.
"So — how about we take a walk around the village together, Emilia-tan?"
He added:
"There's a huge flower field there, and I'd love to see it properly with you, Emilia-tan."
"If we have time, camping overnight on the mountain would be great too — we could sit together on a cliff edge and watch the moonrise side by side."
"Going to the village…"
Emilia's expression dimmed very slightly — and then, as if catching herself, she waved her hand with a flustered look.
"I don't mean I don't want to go! I just worry about causing trouble for Subaru… and the villagers, too…"
Natsuki Subaru didn't wait for her to finish. He quietly took her hand and led her over to the corridor window.
"Don't worry. Emilia-tan is so adorable — everyone is going to love you. Especially all those kids, who are just as adorable themselves."
Natsuki Subaru turned to look at Emilia, his eyes full of warmth and quiet laughter.
"Even if those kids can be a little bit of a handful sometimes."
"Mm. Then I trust you, Subaru."
Emilia tightened her hold on Natsuki Subaru's hand and turned to look out at the moon, letting out a soft, wistful sigh.
"Tomorrow is definitely going to be a beautiful day."
Natsuki Subaru followed her gaze — and for just a moment, flashes from his future memories surfaced in his mind: promises left unfulfilled, loops that began again and again.
His expression became quietly, deeply serious. He murmured under his breath.
"Yeah. And it's going to be a day we'll never forget."
The words were half to himself, half a vow.
Emilia caught something different in his voice and glanced over, curious.
Natsuki Subaru quickly shook his head, scattering those heavy thoughts aside.
He brought his smile back, and with it, a look full of confidence and anticipation.
"Tomorrow — is going to be a day we'll never forget! Look forward to it, Emilia-tan!"
...
...
P.S. Natsuki Subaru's day at the manor is far from over — coming up next is Ram's personal evening storyline.
The secretly-soft-hearted tsundere, Ram, is about to steamroll the situation at lightning speed, elbowing her way past the blissfully oblivious baby-brained Emilia and stepping all over the hapless, long-suffering wife Rem.
Additionally, the second movie-watching event in the manor arc will also be arriving soon — look forward to seeing everyone again then.
