Chapter 1249: Chapter 1221: Going All Out Against Qian?

Taking her daughter to listen to the "national studies" master’s lecture had become a very sincere matter in Qian’s mom’s heart, allowing no carelessness. Qian secretly found it funny watching her mother’s attitude, thinking to herself that the old lady must have forgotten the incident when her hair was burned while praying during New Year, seems like she hasn’t learned her lesson at all.

Da Long intended to stay home and wait for Qian to come back, but unexpectedly Qian’s mom pulled him along too, leaving Da Long looking innocent and confused.

"Mom, this is about female conduct, why am I going to listen?"

"It’ll be good for you to hear some in advance. You’ll know how to interact with girls when you’re looking for a partner in the future!" Qian’s mom thought since she had already bought the tickets, they absolutely couldn’t go to waste. Seeing her brother’s miserable face, Qian couldn’t help but secretly laugh. Haha, dragging him along is one less for her to listen to.

She was curious to hear what kind of nonsense this lecture, meant to "eradicate karma" for their family lucky star, would be.

The lecture venue was inside a certain upscale hotel. At a glance, Qian realized that her mom certainly hadn’t spent a small amount, so she asked casually.

"Mom, how much does this class cost?" It must be at least around 50, right?

"888 yuan per ticket! I bought 3 tickets and even got a blanket as a gift. You know, I thought Liumei would come back, so I bought a ticket for her too, but she didn’t come back. Such a pity."

Da Long smirked, "Next time I see Sister-in-law, I’m definitely going to ask her for some good food. If she had come back, I wouldn’t have to blend in with these middle-aged women."

Qian was stunned by the price.

"How much?!"

"888, and I bought front-row VIP seats. You better listen carefully, this is the essence of national studies!"

Qian felt heartache for her mom. 888 is nearly equivalent to a regular worker’s monthly salary, and her mom splurged on three 888s without a second thought. Even if you’re well-off, you shouldn’t flaunt it like this.

"The essence of national studies undoubtedly has value, but I’m worried that what you’re listening to isn’t the essence but rather the dregs."

Whatever, whether it’s essence or dregs, we’ll know after listening. Qian’s plan was to accompany her mom in the morning for the 888 lecture and in the afternoon take Da Long to expose the spiritual scammer. She wanted to find out what kind of ghost scammed so much money from her mom.

They weren’t late, but the conference room at the hotel was already packed with people. Many had brought notebooks, and most of them were over 30, wearing clothes indicating decent conditions. Qian had a vague idea about what kind of people they were.

They were similar to her mom, relatively well-off economically, not lacking in money, and encountering various midlife crises, like issues with children and relationships, combined with menopause, they sought spiritual solace.

Seeing her mom’s desperate attempt to find a cure, it was easy to understand these people’s mentality.

For the hardworking masses struggling with basic living standards, who would have the spare money to come to listen to this? Of course, these lectures can’t be entirely condemned; there is a mix of truth and falsehood. Some lectures discard the dregs while keeping the essence, while others do the opposite, leavings dregs disguised as essence. You can tell a mule from a horse after spending a while with Qian.

Qian followed her mother all the way to the front VIP section. After about ten minutes, the lecture finally began.

The speaker was a woman around 50, with hair meticulously tied in a bun, wearing a long-sleeved cheongsam paired with black chunky heels. Qian couldn’t see any hint of antiquity; she looked plump like a ball.

As the lecture began, this elderly woman cited a few sayings.

"There is an ancient saying, ’Yang uses firmness as virtue, Yin uses gentleness as function, man uses strength as nobility, woman uses weakness as beauty. A soft and gentle woman can prosper a family for three generations.’

When these words came out, these housewives didn’t quite understand but thought that words this complex must be very reasonable. Upon hearing them, Qian understood completely. Heheh.

If weakness is beauty, wouldn’t she, capable of dealing with several men, be hideous then?

Qian’s mom didn’t understand the initial sentences with odd wording, but when she heard the part about prospering a family for three generations, she was instantly excited. Prosperous lineage, that’s music to her ears; the 888 wasn’t spent in vain!

Next, the instructor began speaking a lot of airy things, using many generalized examples, accompanied by some emotionally stirring statements. These housewives either wept with emotion or were dizzy from the brainwashing theories, clapping one moment and crying the next. In Qian’s professional opinion, they were just regular brainwashing tricks.

The instructor immediately noticed Qian sitting in the front row among the crowd. People speaking on stage share this common experience, enjoying the process of manipulating the audience’s emotions. If someone remained conscious while everyone else was moved to tears, they’d easily become the speaker’s target.

So many were moved to tears by the instructor; only Qian smiled brightly in the front row, while Da Long kept his head down, sunglasses on, nodding off.

What’s all this nonsense about, making a big guy listen to spiritual dregs passed down from feudal society? Isn’t this torture?

After listening for almost fifteen minutes, Qian finally confirmed one thing.

This auntie was spewing nothing but dregs, citing phrases from ancient texts and patching them together into a mysterious, illogical mess. National studies were being ruined by con artists pretending to be spiritual.

Qian was certain this person wasn’t a good bird, and the instructor had set her sights on Qian as well.

Everyone else was fooled by her speech, except for this young girl with a beauty mark on her forehead, sitting cross-legged and smiling.

This smile stood out amongst a scene where everyone else was crying.

The more Qian didn’t listen, the more the instructor directed her speech at Qian, determined to move her, but the more she spoke, the more amused Qian became.

Her mouth even held a trace of a mocking smile, as if translating to, "Oh, foolish humans..."

Perhaps displeased with Qian’s behavior, the instructor deliberately said,

"Women who are too beautiful are very prone to causing trouble. Throughout history, many princes and generals have been seduced by such seductive women. Modern mistresses mostly come from this kind of thing. Female conduct teaches that grooming should be proper, and one’s attire shouldn’t be frivolous. Those who are not dignified spend their time thinking about mingling with men. Whoever marries such a woman is thrice unlucky, harming three generations!"

Thunderous applause broke out again; most of the middle-aged women present were from well-off families, with husbands often in business or holding minor leadership positions. Middle-aged men are most prone to extramarital flirting, which filled these housewives with anger. Any young and pretty girl dressed well would seem like trouble to them. So what the instructor said naturally resonated. Qian’s mom thought of her previous unhappy marriage and felt the instructor’s words were profound truths, clapping so hard her hands turned red.

While saying this, the instructor deliberately faced Qian. Qian, the most beautiful there, understood what was meant by this point.

Heh, trying so hard on her?
