Chapter 1239: Chapter 1211: Arrival of the God of Food

"Oh dear, what should I do? I’m so worried. Nothing will happen to the child, right?" Shi Yu was so scared that she turned pale. She had just been comforted by Qian and was in a great mood, which made her feel hungry. She ended up eating three early spring peaches and then had a stomachache.

"It’s nothing, I’m here. Don’t be afraid!" Qiao Zhen held her and got into the car. Actually, he was more scared than anyone else. Yu Minglang stepped on the gas pedal, rushing them to the hospital.

They left, and only then did Qian and Shi Yu’s mother come downstairs with the maternity kit. Qian drove her own car to follow them, but got caught at every red light, causing her to be a bit slower than Yu Minglang and the others.

She was almost at the hospital when she received a call from Yu Minglang.

"Qian, can you buy a bowl of porridge and add two tea eggs from the nearby porridge shop?"

"Huh?"

"Shi Yu said she wants to eat; she’s hungry." Yu Minglang and the others had already arrived at the hospital, but both the hospital cafeteria were closed.

"What did the doctor say?"

"They said she was seeing red, but we still have to wait a bit. She’s lying in the ward. They’re not sure if she can give birth today; Shi Yu said she’s hungry and worried she won’t have the energy to give birth."

"Then I’ll go buy it!"

Qian bought a bunch of food with Mrs Shi. The private room was already booked, so as soon as they arrived, Shi Yu could stay there. Shi Yu lay on the bed, and Qiao Zhen anxiously paced around. When he saw Qian arriving, he quickly went up to her and started feeding Shi Tou with the food.

"Why am I so hungry? I feel like I haven’t eaten in hundreds of years," Shi Yu said while eating.

A nurse would come by every now and then to check the fetal heartbeat. If there were any abnormalities, they would perform a cesarean section immediately.

"Eat as much as you want," Qiao Zhen was terrified and carefully fed Shi Yu while Shi Yu ate and talked.

"You see! Never make me angry again. If I get angry, I’ll give birth to the child! After the child is born, if you make me angry again, with no child in my belly, the only thing I can do is fart and stink you out!"

"It’s all my fault, dear. I’m sorry," Qiao Zhen didn’t dare to argue with her and coaxed her with sweet talk.

Mrs Shi was both worried and amused, "Look at you two, behaving like fools over little things!" She turned her head and gratefully addressed Qian and Yu Minglang.

"Thank you both. Why don’t you go home first? The doctor said she might not give birth tonight."

"Hasn’t she already seen red? Why is it still uncertain whether she’ll give birth or not?" Qian read a lot of books, but none of them mentioned this.

"It’s very normal; she’s seeing red but the amniotic sac hasn’t broken, so we still have to wait. She’s just being dramatic and scared. Don’t worry, the doctors all checked her; she’s fine," Mrs Shi, experienced, felt reassured after hearing the experts say that everything would be alright.

"Then we’ll head back first and return in the morning. Shi Yu, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Soup dumplings, spicy mashed potatoes, roast chicken, peaches! And give me some chocolate; I’m scared I won’t have the energy when I give birth."

"... Eating so much, how could you not have energy?" Qian had never seen Shi Yu eat so much before. It’s like she was making up for all the weight she lost due to pregnancy vomiting.

"Doesn’t the child want to eat? I figured it out. My child might be the reincarnation of the God of Food, really! I was vomiting so much during pregnancy, which shows the little one has a picky palate. These bad-tasting things can’t go down, now that he’s about to come out, I feel so hungry. Above all, my child is filial to his mom."

Shi Yu proudly glanced at Qiao Zhen, who was anxious and dared not breathe too loudly around her, haha, see if he dares to argue with her now!

This time, it scared him into behaving. This child picked a really good time, hitting right when mom and dad were having a spat so Shi Yu could thoroughly crush Qiao Zhen.

Right now, Qiao Zhen didn’t dare say anything out of care for his wife and feeling guilty. He feared that Shi Yu’s condition was due to Shi Tou being upset and that he was the one to blame. So now, whatever Shi Yu asked him to do, he did.

Qian and Yu Minglang shook their heads, these two happy little troublemakers, always so lively.

As Qian walked out, she overheard Shi Yu speaking to Qiao Zhen.

"Our child is the God of Food incarnate. His dad, why are you frowning? The child brought blessings; as soon as he arrived, we reconciled. Isn’t it great, full of blessings."

Qiao Zhen felt a warmth in his heart, his eyes slightly misty. He realized Shi Yu was encouraging him not to blame himself. She knew what he was thinking, afraid he felt guilty about the argument leading to the child’s arrival.

Qian smiled knowingly. Who said her friend was immature and childlike? At crucial times, she understood things quite well.

Qiao Zhen held Shi Yu’s hand, "Honey, you’ve worked hard. I won’t upset you anymore."

This incident was enough for Qiao Zhen to remember for a lifetime. Just like Shi Yu said, this child arrived at just the right time, appropriately scaring his dad into submission, not only startling his dad but also making Yu Xiaoqiang, his dad’s superior, uneasy.

As Qian and Yu Minglang walked out, Qian was contemplating how to move past their argument, and when she looked to the side, Yu Minglang was nowhere to be found.

Just as her simmering anger was about to ignite again, she saw him coming out of the hospital supermarket, holding a bottle of water.

"Thirsty? Have a drink," he handed her the water.

Qian snorted, took the water, and, seeing a glimmer of opportunity, he quickly followed, staying close to her.

After experiencing Shi Yu’s childbirth scenario, the couple couldn’t even recall the minor conflicts between them. Qian also realized arguing was quite a pointless act, wishing for a truce, yet feeling his previous harsh words were too much, and it was just too easy for him to make up for it with a single bottle of water.

She pushed the water back to him, "I’ll ask someone else to buy it for me. Didn’t you say I was getting too close to him? I’ll prove you right now!"

Saying this, she pretended to leave, prompting Yu Minglang to quickly hold her hand with a serious expression.

"Why are you looking for him?"

"You accused me of getting too close to other men and questioned my conduct!"

"I didn’t mean it like that. I just felt that he is a bit too nice to you. If there’s a fault, it’s his fault, not yours!"

Yu Minglang couldn’t afford to be jealous now, fearing if he didn’t relent, his wife would resemble Shi Yu, and before long, she’d be giving birth with just her underwear on. She was full-term, but hers was still young; she must not be provoked.

Qian’s eyes gleamed knowingly, realizing Shi Yu and Qiao Zhen’s quarrel must have affected Xiaoqiang. Delighted internally, she seized the opportunity.

"You men are really something, daring to defy your wives even when pregnant. Weren’t you quite bold? Didn’t you slam the door and leave? Come on, try walking out on me again!"

"You clearly kicked me out..." Yu Minglang muttered softly, and upon Qian’s glare, he promptly revised his words.

"In the future, even if you chase me out, I won’t go! I’ll cling to the doorframe and stubbornly stay put, alright?"

"Humph!"

Qian’s anger diminished a little, yet she still felt unsatisfied, her already narrow-minded nature becoming even narrower with pregnancy, she kept a stern face, ignoring him.
