Chapter 1223: Chapter 1195: She Treats You Well, I Feel a Bit Guilty
"How about coming to my place? Last time, I promised to cook for you."
Qian, eager to learn some skills, was trying hard to get closer to him. Qio Yu Xuan knew very well she was being this way because she needed something from him, but he found her flattery endearing. Such a smart kid, knowing how to adapt to circumstances and not sticking rigidly to rules; her personality exuded a cleverness that ensured she’d never come out on the losing end.
"If it’s convenient, then I’ll trouble you. But you’re not in the best condition to be cooking now. Anyway, this guy seems pretty free." Qio Yu Xuan pointed at Yu Minglang, who glared at him, annoyed!
"Xiaoqiang, is it okay?" Qian looked at him for help. She was aware her cooking skills weren’t quite up to par and really wanted to chat properly with Qio Yu Xuan today.
"Su-re!" Yu Minglang squeezed these words through his teeth.
"Please don’t force yourself. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll find somewhere else with Qiǎn Bao, and we won’t disturb you."
Xiaoqiang couldn’t possibly let his wife be alone with this unknown guy, so he had to swallow his frustration, giving a forced smile.
"You’re welcome to come over!" Silly fellow, you won’t be able to handle it!
Qio Yu Xuan followed Qian and her husband back to their home, where they were greeted by their dog as soon as they entered. The little devil inside Xiaoqiang screamed, "Doggy, bite this bad guy!"
Usually in sync with Xiaoqiang, the dog was behaving differently today. It just gave Qio Yu Xuan a sniff and wagged its tail, seemingly pleased, which further disturbed Xiaoqiang.
What was wrong with his dog today?!
"Good doggy!" Qio Yu Xuan reached out to stroke the dog’s head, murmuring, "Let me see, are you getting along with Qiǎn Bao? Oh, you like tearing paper, do you? That’s not good; don’t do it anymore, okay?"
Qian was amazed, "Can you do mind reading?!"
Qio Yu Xuan chuckled and pointed to the sofa. Qian looked and, hands on her hips, shouted angrily.
"Green Tea Mei! You’re tearing up paper again!"
Tissues were shredded all over the sofa. Qio Yu Xuan patted the dog’s head, "Go on, clean up the mess you’ve made."
Doggy, spit on him! Show your military dog pride and let him have it! The demon inside Xiaoqiang was shouting, but the scene that followed left him startled.
The dog that usually only obeyed Yu Minglang unbelievably went to the sofa and started picking up the shredded tissues with its mouth!
How incredible!
The dog usually only listened to Yu Minglang’s orders. It got along well with Qian too, but often selectively ignored her commands. Sometimes it pretended not to hear.
Qio Yu Xuan was just a stranger, so how did he manage to make the dog follow his orders right away?
"How did you do that?" Qian was utterly surprised.
"It’s quite simple, actually. Similar to hypnotizing that other person. Let’s go inside and talk. Hey, you there, the cook." Qio Yu Xuan said to Xiaoqiang.
Xiaoqiang stared at the ceiling, pretending not to hear. Who’s he calling a cook?!
"Is he not welcoming me?"
Qio Yu Xuan asked Qian. Qian tugged at Yu Minglang, and only then did Xiaoqiang ask reluctantly.
"What?"
"This is herbal tea that’s good for calming pregnant women. Go brew it and bring it over." He took out a bag of tea from his pocket, followed by another, "This is my tea; brew it too."
Screw that, old man! Xiaoqiang decided he’d use unwashed hands after using the toilet to prepare Qio Yu Xuan’s tea, maybe even spit in his cup!
"Don’t play any tricks; my tea and Qiǎn Bao’s brew taste similar. Qiǎn Bao might even want to try mine!"
That hit Xiaoqiang’s Achilles’ heel. This old monster’s on the way to immortality!
Reluctantly, Yu Minglang got demoted to the position of cook, while Qian, with Qio Yu Xuan, was initially headed for the study room. But seeing his curiosity about the house, she gave him a tour, sharing her inspiration for the decor along the way.
Qio Yu Xuan felt a pang of sympathy, as the two-bedroom apartment seemed so small and shabby to him. "Does this place seem too small to you? Are you comfortable living here?"
"It’s fine! Home isn’t about size for me, as long as I’m with the person I love." Qian glanced at the kitchen, proud of Xiaoqiang who was being so accommodating, despite not liking Qio Yu Xuan, and appreciated having a husband willing to become the cook for her sake.
Qian’s expression of happiness was like a warm breeze from an air conditioner to Qio Yu Xuan, both refreshing and uplifting.
Qian invited him onto the tatami mat. The small room was cozy and full of warmth, clearly showcasing the happiness of a newlywed couple.
Yu Minglang brought the tea, also delivering a side-eye, which Qio Yu Xuan returned. When Qian looked up, the two wore forced smiles, putting on an act of friendliness.
"Do you have any dietary restrictions?" Qian asked Qio Yu Xuan.
"Not particularly, though I’m not especially fond of beef and lamb."
"Oh, then how about hotpot with lamb? And some braised beef—oh, I can make lamb offal soup too!" Yu Minglang added maliciously in his mind, It’ll be too much for you!
"You stand aside and stop causing trouble!" Qian laughed, warning Xiaoqiang, who sensed the threat in her eyes and immediately behaved.
"I’ll cook, you two enjoy your conversation."
Qian smiled at Qio Yu Xuan, "Sorry for the spectacle, my husband enjoys joking around."
I mean it seriously! Xiaoqiang fumed inside, but dared not show it, obediently putting on his apron to cook.
Qio Yu Xuan was thoroughly entertained by all this, clearly seeing where the household authority lay, and found it delightful.
There was a stack of cloth on the sofa, which Qio Yu Xuan pointed at, "What’s this?"
"My mom brought it for the baby’s diapers. I told her to use disposable ones, but she wouldn’t listen, I’m fed up with her."
Qian’s mom always thought that disposable diapers were bad for the baby. Despite Qian’s repeated explanations, she didn’t agree, even going so far as to repurpose a bunch of old sweaters and long johns into makeshift diapers, which gave Qian a headache just thinking about it. It took quite some time to convince her mom, who believed these types of clothing were absorbent and soft, making the best cloth diapers, though this wasn’t scientifically sound.
Clothes washed over time lose their fibers and become less absorbent, raising the risk of diaper rash if they aren’t properly disinfected.
After Qian brainwashed her, her mom realized it wasn’t suitable, did her research, and figured these gauze diapers were pretty good, buying a couple of bags from a baby store to bring over.
"Does your mother treat you well?" Qio Yu Xuan asked.
"How should I put it, there’s a generational gap between us, and we always end up arguing when we meet. She tends to nag about everything, but when we don’t see each other, I miss her, and she worries about me."
Qio Yu Xuan paused, and after a long sigh, said.
"Your mom treats you well, which makes me feel a bit guilty."
