Chapter 1193 - 1165: That Doesn’t Count as Leaking Secrets Anymore
Chapter 1193: Chapter 1165: That Doesn’t Count as Leaking Secrets Anymore
Finally, Qian found the photograph at the top of the wardrobe box.
The bloodstain on the photo was still there, and Qian compared the photo with the wood carving.
Identical!
Which means Balan’s sweetheart and the box Mu Xiaofeng was holding both came from the same place.
But for Qian, this didn’t really help. Many people come from the same place, which doesn’t prove Mu Xiaofeng has done anything illegal.
Despite all the effort, she hoped to find some valuable clues, but it turned out to be of no use. Qian regretted spending so much money on this thing; she really was a spendthrift.
In the evening, after eating the food Yu Minglang and others brought back, Qian lay in bed with cucumber slices on her face to relax. Now that she’s pregnant, she can’t use masks, but as a woman, she couldn’t sleep soundly without sticking something on her face.
Yu Minglang took advantage of her rest to slip into the study. He felt there was something she didn’t want him to disturb, so he glanced around and quickly noticed the box on the bookshelf had been moved.
This box contained some documents, usually untouched, but Yu Minglang casually took it down and opened it, seeing the photo immediately.
Yu Minglang looked at these photos again and felt something was off.
Suddenly, he looked at the woman in the photo, then at the wood carving on the computer desk. He finally knew why Qian wanted him to leave.
An image suddenly surged into his mind, bringing back some memories he had deliberately sealed away.
Balan handed him this photo on his deathbed and said something in his hometown language, which Yu Minglang thought was the girl’s name.
With his eyes closed, he took time to calm his emotions before entering the bedroom.
In the bedroom, Qian was playing classical piano music. The music surrounded the room as she lay on the bed with her eyes closed. Despite the cucumber skin on her face, in Yu Minglang’s eyes, she was the most beautiful woman in the world; even cucumber slices couldn’t affect her beauty.
"This music for prenatal education is not good, the sound quality isn’t enough. Tomorrow, let them send me some high-quality original sound CDs, and the speakers need replacing." Qian spoke with eyes closed as she heard him enter.
Now she has a baby in her belly and she wants the best for the baby.
"The baby is still an embryo; do you think she can hear the music?" Yu Minglang touched her belly; it had become a habit.
"She can’t hear it, but I can. When I’m in a good mood, she develops well."
"Will listening to music alone make you feel good? You have so many things to think about every day. You have to be mindful of my feelings, handle everything by yourself without discussing with me. Do you think this way your mood will be good?"
Upon hearing this, Qian opened her eyes and sat up, the cucumber slices on her face falling off.
Yu Minglang swiftly caught them in his hand and compared them with the photograph he took out.
"How long were you planning to keep this from me?"
"You already know..." Qian was indeed thinking about the connections just now but didn’t expect him to discover it so quickly.
"If I couldn’t even notice the change in your mood, I wouldn’t deserve to be this child’s father." Yu Minglang touched Qian’s belly, feeling a mix of guilt and emotion.
His Qian must have chosen not to tell him out of fear of arousing unpleasant memories, wanting to seek answers on her own.
She had become more understanding and considerate, and he loved this woman more and more.
"I wasn’t intentionally hiding it from you, I was—" Qian didn’t know what to say. The thing she tried hard to conceal didn’t elude him for even half a day. Living with a man whose sixth sense was overly developed and had instincts like an animal sometimes felt inconvenient.
"I know, you were afraid I’d remember unpleasant things, right?" Yu Minglang asked tenderly, and Qian nodded with slight embarrassment.
"I made you worry." He embraced her, wanting to lower his head and give a gentle kiss, but Qian pushed him away.
"Don’t bite—be careful not to get cucumber juice on your mouth. Wait until I wash my face."
Yu Minglang restrained her and spoke affectionately, "There’s cucumber on your face, but not here, right?"
At such moments, words were superfluous. Her unspoken concern and consideration, his unvoiced emotion and affection, all conveyed in this instant.
She dared not joke about the baby, knowing full well not to provoke him when he was brimming with fire now. Therefore, she deliberately took her time washing her face, spending nearly five minutes before returning, sitting on the bed and hugging a pillow, receiving his discerning contemptuous look.
What did this girl think of herself? A mere pillow trying to separate them?
If it wasn’t for considering her hardship with the baby, he would have pushed her down together with the pillow!
Yu Minglang restrained his thoughts from veering into indescribable directions and held up the photograph to Qian.
"This is what Balan gave me on his deathbed."
"Yes, I know. The pattern on the girl in the photo is identical to the wood carving I bought today. I also saw the same box in Mu Xiaofeng’s home, which she valued highly. I could sense she feared I would touch the box, but this only indicates Balan’s sweetheart and Mu Xiaofeng have both visited the same place, and it doesn’t indicate anything else. My money was probably really wasted."
Qian said regretfully.
"No, this discovery is very valuable, Qian, you’re truly a blessing in my life."
"Oh?"
"My uncle only mentioned totem worship in this place. Did he ever say that this place also produces something else? Something that can ruin families and harm oneself and others? According to my investigation, the reason Balan went down the path of no return was to save his brother, who fell victim to this stuff!"
Yu Minglang seemed to understand something; this was a significant discovery.
"You mean—drug?! Ah, I remember now, Mu Xiaofeng purposely led me to believe this stuff is domestically produced, deliberately concealing the fact that she went abroad for it! She’s hiding something!" Qian grasped quickly.
Yu Minglang nodded, "Yes, that’s exactly it, Qian, you’ve made a great contribution."
If Mu Xiaofeng visited as a tourist, like the shop owner where Qian bought the wood carving, bringing back a few crafts, why would she conceal it and say that it’s domestic artwork?
If Mu Xiaofeng was just consuming it herself, why bother to visit the place of origin? It doesn’t make logical sense. It seems very abnormal.
"I saw Mu Xiaofeng today. When I returned, Beauty barked at me and also at Dalong... She must have a strong scent of that stuff on her, otherwise, Beauty wouldn’t react so intensely!"
Qian thought more deeply, realizing that she initially thought she was dealing with a wealthy businessperson who consumed indescribable substances, but now it’s possible this businessperson wasn’t just using them, but might be... selling them!
