Chapter 1188: Chapter 1160: Bringing Many Blessings (Fourth Update)
"Mom, are you worried about Qian because you’re afraid it’s not safe for her to raise Meiren?" Yu Minglang took the lead.
Mrs. Yu sighed, "Isn’t it true? Do you know why I’m so against it? Your sister-in-law recently told me that there is a privately run VIP breeding facility in our area where a female staff member got pregnant. The baby was born missing an ear, and the family cried so hard."
Although you can have an ultrasound to check for deformities now, it’s not always 100% accurate. Even the slightest oversight can be a huge blow to the family. When Mrs. Yu heard about this from her sister-in-law, she immediately took it to heart.
"This kind of thing certainly happens, but it’s isolated incidents. There are hundreds of dogs at the kennel, so there’s bound to be some that aren’t well protected against disease. But we only have one Meiren, and she’s been strictly quarantined. Look, here are the results from the tests Qian had done on her. She doesn’t carry anything harmful to the baby. Mom, you’re a doctor; you should believe in science. As long as Meiren doesn’t go outside and eat indiscriminately, and Qian doesn’t clean up after her, there won’t be any issues."
Yu Minglang handed over the examination reports Qian had just collected. Mrs. Yu took a glance, still not reassured.
"Even if she’s not sick, animals are unpredictable. You saw that today she nearly bit Qian. I was scared to death. What if she bites her while pregnant?"
Upon hearing this, Qian got a bit anxious. She feared Mrs. Yu would mention this matter. She quickly gave Yu Minglang a pleading look, and he took advantage of a moment when his mom wasn’t paying attention to hold Qian’s hand, their fingers interlocked, and gently signaled her not to worry.
"Mom, this is exactly why we must keep Meiren by Qian’s side."
"What do you mean? You’re keeping something that bites by my daughter-in-law’s side, what are you trying to do? Yu Minglang, tell me, do you want to harm Qian and then take her property and marry again?"
This time, Xiaoqiang was dumbfounded, "Mom, you watch too much TV. Why would I treat my wife like that?"
His mom’s thoughts are all influenced by TV shows, and supposedly she’s been watching Chen Shimei lately...
"What I want to tell you is that Meiren wasn’t biting Qian today but was reminding her she might be in some danger. Let me tell you something..."
Yu Minglang explained the whole situation, and the more he spoke, the worse Mrs. Yu’s expression grew. When he finished, she said seriously.
"You’re sure Meiren sensed the scent of that family on Qian, so she bit her?"
"Absolutely, Mom, you know Meiren is a military dog. If she truly wanted to attack, even ten Qians wouldn’t stand a chance. If she wanted to harm someone, she wouldn’t bite their pants. If you don’t believe me, let me show you."
Yu Minglang pulled out the bags, demonstrating to Mrs. Yu as he had with Qian earlier. Meiren accurately identified Qian’s changed clothes.
Mrs. Yu felt incredulous but upon reflection, it made sense. The probability of a military dog attacking is minimal, and Xiaoqiang gave his mother some time to ponder.
"You mean that the family of Qian’s current patient might be unsafe?" Mrs. Yu asked.
Xiaoqiang nodded.
Qian wanted to speak, but Yu Minglang squeezed her hand, gesturing for her not to talk, speaking on her behalf.
"Mom, you’re a doctor too, you should understand a doctor’s mindset. Suppose your patient would die without your help, and their family might have behaved badly but hasn’t harmed you yet, what would you do?"
Yu Minglang knew that if he angered his mom, she might just scratch him a bit. But if Qian were to argue with her, there’d be no talking between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law afterward.
Mrs. Yu was deeply concerned about Qian’s pregnancy; she was very attentive every time one of her daughters-in-law was pregnant. It was a matter of the family’s future, yet it also involved professional ethics. If she weren’t a doctor herself but just a mother-in-law, surely she wouldn’t want her daughter-in-law involved in such matters. But Mrs. Yu, having been a doctor for many years, understood Qian’s feelings.
"Mom, Minglang has already arranged everything for me. Not only does he have my brother following me at all times, but he also has Meiren by my side for protection. Trust me, there won’t be any issues. If it’s discovered that Mrs. Mu did something illegal, we’ll deal with it accordingly. But since her father is my patient, I must see him through to the very end."
Providing end-of-life care is a journey without a return path. Qian also knew that if Mu Xiaofeng really did something wrong, she wouldn’t escape punishment in the end, and her father was already on the edge of life. At that point, despite Qian’s efforts, she might not receive money or results, as the old man would ultimately face death.
Yet this concerns her belief in her profession, and she would never abandon it halfway.
Through Qian and Xiaoqiang’s joint efforts, Mrs. Yu’s thoughts shifted from whether to let her daughter-in-law keep a dog to whether to agree to let Qian continue treating. In the end, she discovered these two issues only had one common answer, seemingly complicatedly intertwined, yet it was so simple.
"Qian, you are a good doctor. Your understanding of medical ethics makes me admire you," Mrs. Yu finally relented.
Qian was delighted, "Mom, you agree to let me keep Meiren and continue treating the Mu Family?"
"What else can I do but agree? You two, among all my children, are the smartest and have the soundest judgment. If I didn’t agree, I’m sure you’d have a thousand ways to persuade me, not to mention I’m a doctor as well."
Mrs. Yu sighed, "But remember, Qian, don’t blame me for being selfish. You go ahead and treat, but you must ensure your own safety. I’ll leave that to the youngest to handle. If he doesn’t take care of you and something happens, don’t bother coming back, understand?"
"Yes! Thank you, Mom!" Qian was very happy, Mrs. Yu shook her head, "Have some soup."
With Yu Minglang stepping in, Qian successfully settled things with her mother-in-law, and her mood improved. She slurped up two bowls of chicken soup with caterpillar fungus.
"Mom, your cooking is truly amazing. I love drinking the soup you make." Qian genuinely praised, "I’m so lucky to have such an understanding and loving mother-in-law."
Mrs. Yu was overjoyed by her compliments, "You silly child, the youngest has certainly had an influence on you, always trying to charm me with sweet talk."
"No, what I said is the truth."
The more Mrs. Yu looked at Qian, the more pleasing she found her. Seeing her face, she couldn’t help but recall Minglang’s persuasive words earlier, thinking to herself it would be wonderful if the fourth daughter-in-law could give birth to a girl who looks like Qian, enough to love someone dearly.
With the cooperation of Qian and Yu Minglang, Meiren could finally stay by Qian’s side again. However, Yu Minglang made a three-point agreement with Qian, including not allowing her to bathe, feed, or change Meiren’s litter box. Qian agreed to them all; she also found it amusing herself.
This period of pregnancy was the time in her life when she was the most sentimental. She didn’t yet realize how much grace this sentiment would bring to herself and the child in her womb, which is another story entirely.
