Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 730: If You Don’t Love Me, Why Do You Care?
Chapter 730: Chapter 730: If You Don’t Love Me, Why Do You Care?
"What else?" Annabelle Linton looked at him coolly. "Your being sick doesn’t benefit me in any way. I saw you were in pain and gave you a hand, that’s all. What?"
Leona Grant gritted his teeth. "Since you’re so benevolent, why don’t you just take care of me for the rest of my life?"
"What, are you planning on being sick for the rest of your life?"
"I do. A heart condition. It acts up whenever I can’t see you!"
Annabelle Linton was speechless.
Leona Grant looked at her cold expression and sneered. "Annabelle Linton, do you have any idea how infuriating you are right now? ’Giving me a hand’ with my illness? Fine. You’re charitable, you’re kind, so treat me if you feel like it. But then why did you wipe my body down? If I remember correctly, you even kissed me. Is there any point to this act?"
"The fever must have addled your brain." Annabelle Linton raised an eyebrow. "You were the one who asked me to do it. You threatened to make a scene if I didn’t, and since it was a hassle, I just went along with it. What, did that give you some reason to get the wrong idea?"
Leona Grant sat on the bed, watching her with a stormy expression. "If I wasn’t sick right now and worried about infecting you," he said, "I swear I’d teach both of your mouths a lesson until they were completely obedient!"
"Psycho!"
Annabelle Linton spat out the single, cold word, then turned and walked out.
Behind her, Leona Grant was left fuming.
* * *
That evening, Leona Grant was working in the bedroom. He had also started smoking, filling the room with a foul, smoky haze.
He had never worked in the bedroom before, let alone smoked in it.
When he saw Annabelle Linton enter out of the corner of his eye, he feigned nonchalance. He was lounging on the sofa with a laptop on his legs and a cigarette between his lips, wearing just a black tank top.
Annabelle Linton, whose own illness was already flaring up, smelled the smoke and broke into a fit of violent coughs.
Startled, Leona Grant made to get up and check on her, but he forced himself to stay put.
In truth, he was doing it on purpose. ’I refuse to believe this woman is actually that heartless!’
Leona Grant looked up at her and said impatiently, "What are you doing in here? Don’t you find me an eyesore?"
Annabelle Linton was truly speechless when it came to this man.
’Doesn’t he know why I’m here?’
’He locked the doors to all the guest rooms. Where does he expect me to sleep?’
She could have slept on the sofa, of course, but Annabelle Linton decided she might as well play dumb with him.
’This is fine, too,’ she thought. ’It gives me a chance to keep an eye on him.’
Annabelle Linton opened the balcony doors. The breeze that blew in helped dissipate the smoke, making it more bearable. She then got into bed, ignored him, and turned her back to him to sleep.
Seeing this, Leona Grant gritted his teeth in anger and began to cough deliberately.
Annabelle Linton didn’t appear to move, but she was actually lying in bed, consumed with worry.
In the end, she couldn’t stand it anymore. She got his medicine and presented it to him.
Inwardly, Leona Grant was ecstatic, but his face was a mask of impatience. "What is it? More of your professional ethics at play?"
Annabelle Linton looked at him, her face devoid of expression. "You’re too loud. I can’t sleep."
A sharp glint flashed in Leona Grant’s eyes. Her words made him so angry that he started coughing again.
Annabelle Linton sighed. She was truly at a loss with him.
’Smoking and standing in a draft while sick, and in such thin clothes... He’s practically trying to kill himself.’
Resigned, Annabelle Linton held the medicine out to him again. "Just take the medicine. It’s your own body. Don’t ruin your health for anyone’s sake. It’s not worth it."
Leona Grant swatted the medicine from her hand. "You don’t love me, right? If you don’t love me, then why do you care what happens to my body? Go back to sleep!"
Annabelle Linton pressed her lips together, clearly unhappy. Finally, she said, "Then can you at least promise not to be so loud?"
"You don’t love me, right? If you don’t love me, why should I care whether you can sleep or not!"
’It’s always the same line!’
