Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 724: We Were Good Before
Chapter 724: Chapter 724: We Were Good Before
"I love you. I just want to keep you by my side. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that."
Annabelle Linton listened to his words, her eyes misting over. ’How could she ever let go of such deep feelings?’
’If one day, she died and he lived on, would he be able to live a good life?’
Annabelle Linton looked at him and said through choked sobs, "Everything you said is right. It’s all correct. But, Leona Grant, I don’t want to live with you anymore. It’s become a burden. I’ll be honest with you—I only went along with it because you were so relentless, and I thought I’d just play along for a bit. I’m not a good person, not a likable one. The only reason I agreed to be with you was to make you lose interest in me. But it seems you’ve only fallen deeper, and that’s not what I wanted."
Leona Grant’s eyes were red-rimmed as he looked at her, trembling. "But we were fine before. Just yesterday, you called me ’husband’ and said you loved me."
Annabelle Linton gave a breezy, unconcerned smile. "That was to make it up to you, so I’d feel less guilty. Haven’t you noticed I’ve been especially good to you these past few days? It was just compensation. I couldn’t live with the guilt otherwise."
Leona Grant stared at her, asking blankly, "Then why not make it up to me for a lifetime?"
After a moment of thought, he asked again, "Annabelle Linton, I still don’t believe a word you’re saying. Tell me, did something happen? Are you worried about something?"
"Just say it! If you tell me, we can face it together. Hiding it from me isn’t for my own good. It does nothing but hurt me."
Annabelle Linton looked at him, tears on the verge of falling.
’Of course, she knew that. But she couldn’t tell him.’
’Right now, there was no antidote at all. And even if there was one, getting it would take time.’
’His illness would only get worse, so her only choice was to leave him now, find the antidote, agree to Vivian Yates’s demands, and buy Leona Grant more time.’
’Once she found the antidote, she would make sure to kill that bitch, Vivian Yates.’
Annabelle Linton smiled again and said, "Stop comforting yourself, Leona Grant. Going to my senior’s place for half a year was just a cover story. I just wanted to leave you. I had a dream last night. I dreamt that we had a child and were living a happy life. I don’t want that kind of life. I don’t want to be with you."
Leona Grant understood.
So all this time, she had just been playing with him, trying to make him give up.
No wonder her attitude had changed so quickly back then. He knew it was all fake.
It was just so sudden. So very sudden.
Everything Annabelle Linton gave him was always sudden, whether it was getting together or breaking up.
There was never any warning, leaving him completely unprepared.
But he still found it strange, because everything had been perfectly fine just before this.
Annabelle Linton called it self-comfort.
Leona Grant looked at her and sneered, "So you have to leave? We have to get a divorce?"
Annabelle Linton’s reply was firm and decisive. "Yes."
"Reason?"
"I already told you."
"The reason," he repeated stubbornly.
"I don’t love you."
"Ha." Leona Grant scoffed, his hand clamping down on her chin as he said coldly, "I won’t agree, Annabelle Linton. You can forget about it. You’re mine. In life and in death, you’re mine. I will never let you take a single step away from me in this lifetime. Starting today, you’re not allowed to go anywhere until you’ve thought this through. I’m warning you, don’t push me. If you push me too far, I’m capable of anything."
With that, he roughly let go of her chin, slammed the door, and left.
Annabelle Linton sat on the floor, draping herself over the bed and crying silently.
