Chapter 707: Chapter 707: Why Didn’t Father Wyatt Come to Celebrate Our Birthday?

Annabelle Linton watched them all crying and said with a smile, "What is everyone doing? I’m here now, aren’t I? How can you cry on your birthday?"

The director saw this and said kindly to the children, "Everyone, don’t cry. Annabelle has her own life and has to go to work. Even though she couldn’t visit for a while, she was always thinking of you all. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come today. So, little ones, please stop crying. If you don’t, you’ll make Annabelle sad, understand?"

The children immediately stopped crying. They hugged Annabelle Linton and started apologizing.

"We’re sorry, Annabelle. We didn’t mean to. We just missed you so much."

"Annabelle, please don’t be mad, okay?" said Holly. "You can have my candy. Please don’t abandon us, okay?"

A little girl said through her sobs, "All the kids on TV have a mommy and a daddy, but we don’t. A few years ago, the orphanage was very, very poor. Sometimes we didn’t even have enough bowls or chopsticks. Claire and Kenny would sometimes have to share a single steamed bun for the whole day. But then Annabelle came, and our lives got better. She made it so we could eat until we were full and have warm clothes to wear.

The director said that if it wasn’t for you, Annabelle, we would have all starved to death. So please don’t go, okay? Don’t leave me, please? When I grow up, I’ll repay you."

"That’s right! Everyone else looked down on us for being dirty and poor. Only Annabelle helped us and took care of us for so many years. Please don’t abandon us, okay?"

"Annabelle, please don’t go..."

Hearing this, Annabelle Linton’s eyes reddened. She choked back tears and said, "I won’t abandon you. How could I ever abandon you? If I were going to, would I still be here celebrating your birthday with you?"

With that, Annabelle Linton started to laugh. "Alright, alright. Come on, listen to me. No more crying, everyone. Today is your birthday! It’s supposed to be a happy day, so no more being sad. I brought presents for everyone. Come and get your gifts!"

"Okay! Thank you, Annabelle!"

"Congratulations on turning another year older, little ones. I hope this new year brings you all peace, health, and happiness," Annabelle Linton said with a smile.

The children laughed too, shouting happily in unison, "Thank you, Annabelle!"

Annabelle Linton stood up and walked over to Leona Grant. She pulled him into the middle of the group and said, "Today, I also want to introduce someone to all of you. This is my husband, Leona Grant. He brought lots and lots of gifts for you today, so you should thank him too, okay?"

"Thank you, Annabelle’s husband, Uncle Grant."

The director immediately felt awkward about the title.

’They’re a couple, but the children are calling one ’Annabelle’ and the other ’Uncle’. That’s not right at all; it messes up the generations.’

The director stepped forward to smooth things over, but just as she was about to speak, a little boy clutching a teddy bear walked up. He hugged Annabelle Linton and asked, "Annabelle’s Mom, where’s Father Wyatt? Why didn’t Father Wyatt come for our birthday? Who is this uncle?"

This little boy’s name was Donna. He was a very cute child, but he had a congenital illness.

Annabelle had still been in college with Aaron Wyatt when she first found him.
