Chapter 611: Chapter 611: I Said I Wouldn’t Let You Suffer the Slightest Injustice

Finally, afraid his sincerity wasn’t enough, he added, "Please, tell me what you want. Anything, as long as it will calm your anger."

"Hah."

A contemptuous smirk curled Leona Grant’s lips. "Mr. Ainsworth, you’re quite the big shot," he said, his tone laden with meaning. "And to think you married a woman with such... upstanding morals. I wouldn’t dream of laying a hand on my wife, yet yours not only lectured her but actually got physical. Such commendable courage..."

Tina Chapman pouted, looking wronged. "I..."

SLAP—

Gritting his teeth, Arthur Ainsworth slapped her again. Then he asked with a smile, "Is this satisfactory?"

Leona Grant laughed. "Why are you asking me?" he said, amused. "Hasn’t anyone told you? Offending my wife is a much more serious crime than offending me."

The implication was clear: he was apologizing to the wrong person.

Just moments before, a phone call had made Arthur Ainsworth, sitting in his office, leap to his feet.

His company had been collaborating with the Grant Group, and even a small scrap from them was enough to cover several months of the Ainsworth Group’s revenue.

But the caller had informed him that the Grant Group was pulling its investment. Less than a minute later, a series of scandals—land pollution, among other things—were leaked to the public. The company’s hotlines were ringing off the hook with other investors calling to pull out...

Having been in the business world for many years, he naturally sensed something was amiss. He followed the trail of clues, which led him here.

Leona Grant was furious, which meant the Ainsworth Group was facing bankruptcy. His only option now was to find a way to calm him down.

It was his life’s work on the line; he couldn’t afford to worry about saving face now.

Arthur Ainsworth put on a fawning smile and spoke ingratiatingly to Annabelle Linton. "Annabelle, my dear, your aunt didn’t mean anything by it. She’s just blunt and speaks her mind. I’m apologizing to you on her behalf, so please don’t be angry. She was just worried about our Janie, that’s all. I’ve already disciplined her. Do you think... we could just let this matter drop?"

Every word was laced with veiled accusations and cunning manipulation.

In truth, Annabelle Linton never wanted to blow things out of proportion.

Arthur Ainsworth had always treated her fairly well; it was Tina Chapman who was the problem. Annabelle wasn’t one to press her advantage. ’I’ve already gotten my revenge,’ she thought, ’so I can just let this go.’

Annabelle Linton nodded and hummed in agreement.

Arthur Ainsworth finally let out a sigh of relief and looked hopefully toward Leona Grant.

Instead, Leona Grant simply took Annabelle Linton’s hand and started to walk away.

Seeing them leave, Arthur Ainsworth grew anxious and hurriedly asked, "Young Master Grant, about our business partnership..."

Leona Grant stopped, turned, and raised an eyebrow at him. "What partnership?"

Arthur Ainsworth gave a dry laugh and said shamelessly, "Seeing as Annabelle has decided not to pursue this matter, the partnership between the Ainsworth Group and the Grant Group..."

"Partnership?" Leona Grant feigned recollection. "When did I ever say I’d be working with you again?"

Arthur Ainsworth was rendered speechless.

There were no words for someone so deviously manipulative.

"You..."

As he spoke, Leona Grant seemed to recall something. He turned to his assistant, Chase, and commanded, "My wife has suffered a great deal today. This matter can’t be dropped so easily. Notify our corporate legal team. Mrs. Ainsworth of the Ainsworth Group has personally and violently assaulted my wife. Tell the lawyers to spare no effort in getting justice for her. Press charges until she’s facing prison time."

"Yes, sir."

This was what it meant to be doted on completely, to not be allowed to suffer even the slightest injustice...

Annabelle Linton felt it was all a bit much. ’After all,’ she thought, ’Annabelle Ainsworth saved me, and Tina Chapman... she’s suffered enough for one day.’

She tugged on Leona Grant’s arm and shook her head.

Leona Grant lowered his head, pecked her on the lips, and said softly, "I told you I’d never let you suffer even the slightest bit. Those weren’t empty words."
