Chapter 1192: Chapter 1219: Exposing Their True Colors 4

Grandma Jian pressed her lips together. "A gold lock like this can be custom-made in lots of copies."

"I’ve worn this one since I was a child. Is there some problem with it?"

Zhang Mingyue asked with a puzzled look. Just then, her parents came hurrying over; seeing so many people surrounding their daughter, they were so frightened they froze in place, not daring to move. But if you looked closely, you could see the crazed greed and excitement in their eyes, the ugliness of human nature.

"Mom, Dad!" Zhang Mingyue looked like she’d finally found someone to rely on. She stood up and threw herself into her parents’ arms. "You’re finally here. They took my gold lock, and they had a bunch of security guards hold me down. I was really scared."

Father Zhang put on a posture of standing up for his daughter and looked over at the Jian Family, fulminating,

"Who are you people? What do you want to do to my daughter?"

Obviously, they’d already gotten into character too.

Jian Xiong straightened his back, imposing without overt anger, and said, "No need to be nervous, you two. I’m the Leader. I have a few questions I need to ask your daughter and get clear."

Meeting Jian Xiong’s intensely aggressive gaze, Father Zhang’s legs went weak. The aura of a big shot really was something.

Mother Zhang was more shrewish; she went straight in. "So you’re the Jian Family. I say, aren’t you going too far? My daughter kindly invited the Doctor to treat you, and that Doctor made a mistake. You blame my daughter for it and even locked her up. That’s just bullying."

Jian Qingqing stepped in to smooth things over. "It’s all a misunderstanding. We came today because we want to get one matter straight."

"What matter?" Father Zhang was really selling it.

"Ask whatever you want, but can you give the gold lock back to us first? That’s the important item my adopted daughter had on her when we took her in. What if you lose it?"

"Ming Yue is adopted by you?" Liu Fanglan asked, suppressing her excitement. "Where did you adopt her from?"

Father Zhang said, "From an orphanage in South City. Why?"

"South City, it’s South City!" Liu Fanglan cried tears of joy and grabbed Zhang Mingyue in a hug. "You really are my daughter, you really are my daughter!"

Zhang Mingyue put on a panicked, flustered expression. "What are you doing, Mrs. Jian? What daughter?"

"I’m talking about you. You’re the daughter I lost eighteen years ago!"

Liu Fanglan sobbed, "We’ve been searching for you for so long, and finally we found you. You’ve suffered."

Grandma Jian scolded in a low voice, "Fanglan, nothing’s been clarified yet. Why are you rushing to say all this?"

Jian Qingqing said gently, "This isn’t a good place to talk. Why don’t we all go home first and ask properly? And it just so happens Ming Yue’s detention period is up."

Nianyang couldn’t help laughing as she listened, watching them one after another—such a big production they were putting on.

The whole thing had come on far too deliberately. She didn’t for a second believe that Zhang Mingyue was the Jian Family’s daughter. With Jian Qingqing being this eager, she’d probably struck some kind of deal with Zhang Mingyue.

Nianyang didn’t have any concrete evidence in hand; all she could do was watch and see how things developed. She followed them back to the Jian Family residence again.

Under Jian Xiong’s questioning, Father Zhang and Mother Zhang laid out, from beginning to end, the whole story of adopting Zhang Mingyue.

Where it was, when it was—everything was told in detail, not a word different from what Grandma Jian had described.

At a time like this, almost no one would doubt it, but Nianyang still felt something was off. The wording was too perfect—how could anyone remember it that clearly? It was like they were reciting lines. And with Jian Qingqing being so proactive, Nianyang suspected she was the one orchestrating things behind the scenes.
