Chapter 979: Skylar, Thick Barrier
Chapter 979: Skylar, Thick Barrier
Without any warning given, all the players in the area vanished from the scene.
Carmen's eyes widened slightly when she saw how fast Nicholas sent them to the second aptitude.
"Well, that was unexpected." She commented.
Normally, one would be given some time to take a break. Yet that logic didn't seem to apply here.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng didn't find Nicholas's action to be abnormal.
"The second aptitude test is about one's reaction speed. Elder Nicholas directly sending them to the testing area is the first part." He explained the situation.
"Haha, as expected of someone with their name recorded in the Honor of Glory." Nicholas laughed heartily.
In the blink of an eye, he had somehow emerged behind them.
"This second aptitude is all about reaction speed. If these trial contenders can't even adapt and react in time, then they don't deserve the right to enter the Hall of Resonance." He continued and stroked his beard.
"Elder Nicholas is wise." Xu Feng stood up and praised him. Even though it was clear flattery, such words would never be frowned upon.
Just like how no one would slap a smiling face, the same goes for flatterers who knew what to say.
Xu Feng's words were exactly the type that Nicholas enjoyed. Naturally, it only worked because the flatterer held enough status to become one.
Had such words been spoken by the other trial contenders, then Nicholas would only frown and reprimand them. Such was the reality of a flatterer and the person to be flattered. It required sufficient status.
Sometime later, Nicholas disappeared from the area again.
Similar to the first aptitude test, it became apparent that he was still immersing himself in some other candidates' tests physically.
Once it was confirmed that Nicholas was gone, Carmen finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Phew, I thought he was going to send us to undertake some aptitude test." She patted her chest and wiped off some imaginary sweat.
"Why would you think he will send us to undertake the test?"
"It's a reaction test. Who knows if he might force us to take the aptitude test and see if we have the reaction?"
"..."
Silent, Xu Feng didn't anticipate Carmen to be thinking so far ahead.
Although he was certain that the NPC who oversaw the trial wouldn't go back on their word, Carmen didn't know about it.
Thus, her worries weren't unfounded.
"I'm glad that you are starting to think further." Xu Feng lightly said. "One should always try to calculate different possibilities."
"Hehe…"
As the two continued to converse, the other trial contenders had already begun to experience life and death.
On Evelyn's aptitude test, she was faced with numerous battle puppets who sought to eliminate her in every turn.
"That's it?" Evelyn sneered and dodged the battle puppets' attack with extreme ease. Ever since she was bombarded by Cool Wind's grenades, she had sent out numerous elites to gather movement techniques for her to learn.
Therefore, her reaction speed could be considered extremely high.
Outside the projected screen, Xu Feng lost interest in her. "Looks like she might be the first to pass again."
Nodding in agreement, Carmen was also a bit dissatisfied that Evelyn held such profound skills.
"I'll say… if she's quite infatuated with Cool Wind. Do you think Cool Wind can get the movement technique that she's using?" She questioned curiously.
"Let's pause there for a second." Xu Feng's brows twitched upon hearing Carmen's question. "The movement technique she used is decent, but the one I taught you is better. There's no need to be that underhanded."
Though to be honest, Xu Feng was simply afraid of being more entangled with a character like Evelyn. He would much rather have an enemy who hated him deeply than have someone who was crazy about him in adoration.
This was especially so when the adoration stemmed from a ridiculous exchange of ruthless thrashing.
"Tsk, coward." Carmen clicked her tongue and spat. As if she would be foolish enough to believe he really had a change of heart and didn't wish to screw someone over.
Xu Feng feigned deafness and continued to spectate the trial contenders.
The people he paid close attention to were the representatives of each Super Guild, especially CarnageBound and the elites of the Malefic Order Guild.
They were destined to clash in the future, so now was the great opportunity to see what their skills were.
Unfortunately, it seemed like they knew that he could spy on them and purposely held back their strength.
'No wonder they were second to last to pass. These bastards can really hide their skills.' Xu Feng sneered inwardly. Having known that they were purposely hiding their skills, he no longer bothered to pay attention to them.
All he needed to know was that their skills were definitely no less than the top rankers.
"Guild Leader, look at that woman from Twilight." Suddenly, Carmen stood up and pointed at a certain projection screen.
"A woman from Twilight?" He followed the trail of her pointing and realized the woman she mentioned was Skylar.
"Hmm, an Arcane Mage who could just surround herself with spells to cause devastation is indeed the easiest to pass the reaction aptitude test."
Although the aptitude test would send dangers unexpectedly from all sorts of positions, it would all be useless if one could simply shield oneself. It didn't even matter if her reaction speed was crap or not.
They would still be able to block it.
More importantly, Skylar seemed to have invested heavily in her defensive spells, and not offensive spells.
Just not, an attack came from beneath her feet, and Skylar failed to react in time. Yet she still remained safe and sound because her barrier absorbed all the damage, and not a single ripple effect was caused.
"Do you think your voidlings could exterminate her thick barrier?" Xu Feng mused.
Carmen nodded at first, but then shook her head. "Her thick barrier could regenerate, so it would be difficult to exterminate her thick barrier in a fast manner. I'll need to exert a lot more power to shatter her barrier."
