Chapter 449: Burning Trail
Chapter 449: Burning Trail
Shortly after receiving permission from the Raid Leader, Iceheart went forward and unleashed a barrage of her attacks at the ignited floor.
Her Claymore sword swung wide and far, dealing massive damage to the structure. Read the latest on empire
"Geez, what's wrong with her?" Zhao Kai exclaimed in disbelief when some of the debris nearly went flying straight at him.
Thankfully, he wasn't fully focused on his immersion in self-improvement due to the bizarre situation. Otherwise, he might have just died from his teammate going crazy.
Iceheart's wild attack appeared almost as if she was venting out all her frustration that had built up.
Amidst Iceheart's rampage attack in the hope of extinguishing the ignited floors, Carmen went to Xu Feng and asked softly, "Just how much did you torture her?"
"Enough to let her know who's the boss here and that she needed to learn how to work as a regular team member. She might be the commander within her guild and lead a group of elites, but she's in my territory right now." Xu Feng explained coolly.
Naturally, he understood Iceheart's cold and detached personality came from her ability to rampage wildly.
Not many were able to contend against her even in previous virtual reality games.
Hence, she was widely regarded by her guild and had an abundant amount of authority. Yet it was precisely because of this that her ego became unbelievably high to the point that she didn't even notice it herself.
Had Xu Feng not established his dominance early and curled this woman's ego into mush, he feared that she would become a time bomb that could disrupt his plan.
"I see…" Almost as if she anticipated his reason to be quite hard to grasp, Carmen simply nodded her head. She was used to Xu Feng doing many unorthodox and weird things, but it was always for the greater good.
This was the reason why she didn't interfere and even blocked off the others who wanted to secretly eavesdrop on Xu Feng's private conversation with Iceheart.
'I supposed we should just let Iceheart vent out all her frustration.' Carmen knitted her brows and cast a barrier, deflecting a few debris that happened to fly toward her side.
She could subtly understand what it was like to be toyed and played by Xu Feng repeatedly. It was never a good feeling on the receiving end.
Sometime later, Iceheart finally stopped her rampaging, her breathing somewhat disorderly.
"H-How is this possible?" She clenched the hilt of her Claymore sword tightly, confused by the baffling scene. Not only had her chaotic offense failed to extinguish the ignited floors, but the ignition seemed to burn brighter than before.
It was as if she was feeding the ignition to continuously burn rather than trying to extinguish it.
Unwilling to accept such a result, she was about to unleash another barrage of attacks, only to be stopped by a voice.
"That's enough!" Xu Feng's cool and cold tone resounded the area. "Even if you use all your strongest skills and exhaust all your mana, you still can't extinguish the ignited floor affected by the Burning Trail."
Her eyes colored in disbelief, seemingly unable to comprehend the situation.
She turned to him and with her lips pursed slightly, she asked, "Why is it that the Burning Trail can't be extinguished? Isn't it just a monster's skill upon death?"
Some monsters were capable of activating some skills upon death, similar to a kamikaze style that would damage the players nearby to ensure mutual destruction.
Therefore, they weren't surprised by the sludges leaving some skill behind after death, but it was surely a first for them to realize those skills can't be negated.
What was worse was that the ignited floor was starting to spread, albeit not fast, but it wouldn't be long before the ignition blocked the path of escape completely.
Yet despite such a grim situation, Xu Feng was seemingly carefree and laidback, taking his time lecturing everyone and even allowing them to test things for themselves.
"Are you sure this is the correct way to act as a Raid Leader?" Iceheart narrowed her eyes and asked coldly. "The danger is spreading, but you're so nonchalant about it."
"Stop judging the Raid Leader already." Carmen could no longer restrain herself any longer and stepped forward, confronting Iceheart.
"All along, the Obsidian sludges wouldn't have become such a problem had you not acted impulsively. Instead of self-reflecting or apologizing, you're here judging the Raid Leader? Woman, are you being serious right now?" She continued, suppressing the heck out of her.
"I-I uh…" Astounded, Iceheart was momentarily stunned by the intervention of Carmen, who had been rather quiet the whole duration.
"Anyway, the Raid Leader will probably explain the situation once you all calm down and stop overestimating yourself. If the Raid Leader is calm and not rushing, then there's obviously a solution to it." Carmen coolly said and returned to Xu Feng's side.
Although he didn't bother to defend his action, that didn't mean she was going to take a backseat and allow these new people to speak whatever was on their minds without any regard.
There was a limit to what they could and could not say, and one of them happened to degrade Xu Feng as the Raid Leader.
'Known as an Ice Beauty? Tsk, I can't even count how many pursuers I have in my lifetime and I still don't act like that.' Carmen sneered inwardly.
With Carmen standing out, the rest soon quiet down, allowing Xu Feng an opportunity to speak.
To be fair, he really didn't mind people giving their input and tried to solve the situation. It was a good exercise to critically think, but it appeared that Iceheart's constant disorder was getting on Carmen's nerves.
"Anyway, the Burning Trail can only be extinguished once our weapons are coated with the waters from cracked fountains that are scattered across each respective passage." Xu Feng revealed.
"Cracked fountain?"
"Right, there was something along the line in the system prompt!"
Realization soon dawned upon these people as they briefly recalled the system prompt upon entering the Fortress of the Fallen.
"These Burning Trail left on the ground wouldn't pose much of a problem once we head to the cracked fountain. It's only a problem when it latches on to us." Xu Feng continued, subtly revealing that he had found the location of the fountain.
