Chapter 684 - 684: How to deal with enemies from all sides (part 8)
Seeing the frustration in Claire’s face, the sky-blue haired girl whose figure could be seen for a split of a second as the body of the giant red wolf repaired itself back to its perfect state, before the wolf’s mouth opened so that Lyn’s voice could come out of it.
“It’s good to see that you finally accepted that you aren’t the smart type, but if you want to grow up to become like me, you need the appropriate amount of strength and skill to keep things simple and still overwhelm your opponents, you know”, she said with a mocking voice.
Naturally Lyn referred to the fact that her tactic of focusing in getting rid of one of them, namely the little tiger girl, was futile because Claire lacked the strength to get past the two of them who will do their utmost to protect their teammate.
And of course, she spelled it in the most insulting way that she could think of, not like it was a lie though, because certainly Claire went from trying to play the role of a cunning and strategic mage, to a direct and overwhelmingly strong close combat knight, which is how Lyn fights, the difference being that the previous perfectly works for Lyn.
“Crack!”, a shattering sound could be heard coming from Claire’s direction, the origin of it was the horn on her forehead which had a second crack running through its whole length appear.
As a result, the black-green nether that was being radiated from Claire’s body, once again increased its output, it meant that the corrosion on her original lineage was allowed to advance a bit more than before.
“Wave Piercing Step”, with a calm voice despite the anger that burned her from the inside, Claire disappeared from plain view, the next second the head of the giant red wolf was suddenly blasted away.
“Booom!”, the shockwave caused by the impact of Claire’s charge forced the giant wolf backwards, but that wasn’t all, four nether streams then pierced through the now headless wolf at different areas, but very much to Claire’s displease she couldn’t feel any resistance on the arrows.
“Tsk!”, Claire couldn’t help but click her tongue knowing full well that her attacks didn’t hit anything, and as if to confirm the previous, the badly “injured” wolf had sky blue energy rings appear on its legs, flashing the next second.
However, unlike what Claire prepared for, in other words a giant wolf’s paw to claw at her when the wolf charged at her, what actually happened is that the though unrepaired still kicking red giant wolf, actually dispelled a few centimeters before clashing head on against Claire.
As a result, a red colored “smokescreen” suddenly expanded in every direction obstructing Claire’s view, though it was only for a fraction of a second
“Damn it!”, accompanied by Claire’s annoyed voice, the four crossbows that floated at her sides, released a wave of nether, forcefully dispelling the red energy that was getting in her way.
Well, the idea was for Claire’s nether to destroy it, but after the initial shockwave created by her nether, which was what got rid of the visual obstruction, all the red energy which was pushed aside, moved in an unnatural way as it was absorbed by one of the two figures that used the cover of the red energy, to get as close as possible to Claire.
One of the two figures, the one coming from behind, was naturally Arianna, who though had dispelled the giant red wolf, still had her hair, wolf ears and tail painted of a bright red color, her nails which had slightly enlarged and bent downwards, turning into claws were cladded in energy of the same color as she slashed them at Claire’s back.
In contrast, the one that appeared in front of Claire, had sky-blue hair and energy rings of the same color wrapped around her arms.
“Get lost!”, just as Arianna’s claws and Lyn’s punch were about to reach Claire, she pointed her right arm frontwards and left arm backwards.
“Piercing Wave!”, green-blue energy gathered on Claire’s palms to then be shot, clashing head on with Arianna’s claws and Lyn’s punch.
“Boooom!”, after a second of silence, the green-blue wave of energy released by Claire exploded as it was ripped to shreds on the back and dispersed on the front, not without causing an explosion that forced both Arianna and Lyn away from her.
But just as a very slight triumphant smile was about to appear on Claire’s face, a yellow flash directly landed on her head.
“Lightning Tail Whip”, the little tiger girl whose figure suddenly appeared above Claire, lashed her tail which was cladded in yellow lightning energy, at Claire’s head.
“Ack!”, as a result, Claire let out a slightly pained sound as her body was sent flying downwards, to then crash against the ground.
That being said, Dana didn’t remain in her previous position even for a second, turning into a yellow flash which retreated almost instantly, just in time to avoid a black-green nether arrow by the skin of her teeth, before the little tiger girl was “swallowed” by the giant red wolf which was back into the fight, with all its limbs intact.
Claire who returned to float at the same height at which the giant wolf stood, gave a killing glare at those three who were hiding inside the red wolf, Dana’s attack wasn’t lethal but she did manage to draw blood out of Claire, as the low dripping sounds that were produced as a slight trace of blood travelled down from her right temple all the way to her chin, suggested.
“In terms of pure destructive power, you are still behind of us, but that speed and the sheer amount of energy you con can manipulate are ridiculously high, even I lost track of you there for a second, was the improvement you obtained energy related?”, asked Lyn as she turned to see the little tiger girl with curiosity in her eyes.
“Yes and no, certainly the biggest benefit I obtained was on the energy aspect, since it made my lightning stronger than before but absorbing the strand of that tiger actually improved all the aspects I can think of, speed, defense, strength, endurance, dexterity, all of them have gone up”, mumbled Dana.
Apparently, the tiger was probably the best possible blood specter for Dana to hunt, since it overall benefitted her, instead of focusing in a single aspect, like it happened with the wildcat, which makes sense, because a part of Dana’s lineage and the one which was considered her “weak” point was that of a tiger, it was the ultimate prey for the little tiger girl.
Though she now was curious about what would happen if she were to defeat a lion shaped blood specter.
“You surely are enjoying the benefits of having reunited with “masked big brother” earlier than us, huh”, jokingly said Arianna, making Daimon who was watching from afar, bitterly smile knowing that the nickname was going to stay for a long time.
On the other hand, it’s not like Arianna was wrong, in paper, the little tiger girl actually had higher “stats” than both Arianna and Lyn as of current, thanks to having absorbed the strand from the tiger.
Of course that doesn’t mean she is stronger than those two, because just like when she absorbed the one from the wildcat, she needs to learn to control the benefits obtained from the tiger, before she can take full advantage of them, but for now it was enough to make up for the lack of experience she had and to put her at the same level as Arianna and Lyn, with short periods in which she actually surpassed them in terms of speed.
“Mm~”, the little tiger girl limited to smile at Arianna who made the giant red wolf jump to the side, dodging two of the four black-green nether arrows that Claire shot at them, before a green-blue energy wave reached them, only to be stopped by the wolf clawing at it with its right paw.
“Clang!”, the sound of metals colliding as well as sparks flew in every direction as Arianna used the red wolf to block Claire’s attack, but unlike what normally happened when their attacks collided which is that they cancel each other, though the impact still gets to Arianna, this time Claire’s attack overwhelmed Arianna’s one and got to reach the giant red wolf.
Cracking sounds were produced as Arianna used the remaining three paws of the wolf to stop her retreat, leaving behind a trace of destruction, that attack had gone through her attack and destroyed the leg of the giant wolf, while the other two arrows which Arianna couldn’t avoid, blasted away the head of the wolf.
But that wasn’t all, one of the arrows actually managed to graze Arianna, in part because her attack being destroyed like that took her by surprise and in part because she focused most of her attention on moving those two through the body of giant wolf, to take them out of the reach of the arrows, which ended up with one of them getting to her in the process.
“Hssss”, with sizzling sounds and steam coming out of the wound that opened on Arianna’s right shoulder, her blood turned into red energy which reconstructed the damaged giant wolf, while at the same time the wound closed on the spot.
That’s why Arianna decided to take the hit, because she was sure that her recovery capacities are the best among the three of them, that being said the physical impact of the arrow did hurt.
“Humph” with a soft snort, the werewolf girl directly ripped the black-green nether which was trying to infiltrate her body, but was stopped by the layer of silver light that was protecting her body, with her claws.
It’s worth mentioning that this time, neither Lyn, nor the little tiger girl charged at Claire in order to get back at her, because Lyn had already predicted “this” was going to happen, what is “this” you ask, the answer was given by Lyn the next second.
“I told you, getting wounded by the one she considered the weakest link was something that woman couldn’t stand, so she directly allowed another portion of her lineage to be corroded by her nether in order to gain more brute power”, mockingly said the sky-blue haired girl, she took pride in her analyzing abilities of course.
“Yeah, an arrogant self-centered person that can’t stand being bested in any way, reacting so stupidly, it sure was something hard to predict”, jokingly said the werewolf girl, making the little tiger girl giggle, she was amused at how despite Arianna and Lyn being as different as possible, still got along surprisingly well.
And in case you wonder how come Claire actually gave them the time to exchange a few sentences without shooting a barrage of attacks at those three, that’s because for a change she didn’t allow her anger to take over and actually decided to listen to Lyn’s “advice”, as in she decided to go with a simple course of action but with overwhelming force.
“Crack!”, she didn’t test the waters anymore and directly grabbed the tip of the horn that protruded from her forehead with her right hand to then… break it in half.
“Booom!”, for a second there was silence before a pillar of black-green nether raised into the sky, the reaction was so strong because that was no longer corrosion that could be controlled.
Claire directly just discarded a part of her original lineage and then used it as fuel for the next technique.
“Wave Splitting Gauntlets!”, the result were two green-blue ethereal gauntlets, though it was a technique that used the lineage energy she could use, instead of nether, it was clearly modeled after the spells and martial arts that the Lords used to manifest their “ancient armaments”.
The difference being that this improvised version used by Claire required a much heftier price and it was also temporary, but it was probably done with that intention since the idea was for it to be a last resort type of thing.
Arianna felt the urge to laugh at Lyn whose expression was indeed worth of being looked at, she was exasperated by the fact that the more Claire immersed in nether, the more aspects she copied about her, now she was using the same type of weapon that Lyn uses normally.
Unfortunately, neither Arianna nor Lyn had the time to put their opinions into words, because Claire’s image blurred and the next that happened was that Arianna’s pupils contracted like needles.
“Upwards, to the left and…”, Lyn who was in the middle of yelling to Arianna, was interrupted by the latter.
“I know!”, with those words, the werewolf girl used the red energy inside of the wolf to both push Dana to the side and then condensed four spots in different directions with a whole bunch of energy, just in time for the wolf’s body to have a third of its extension from the head to the front legs to be blasted away.
But that wasn’t the end of it, four streams of nether then entered the remains of the giant red wolf.
A sordid dull sound echoed through the sky as the nether arrows clashed against the four spots where Arianna had concentrated the red energy, slightly stopping the arrows for a fraction of a second before they continued advancing, however Arianna had achieved her goal of changing the arrow’s directions forcing them into the ground, into which they drilled through to then disappear from sight.
“How annoying, as I thought you are really getting on the way”, Claire who had appeared in front of Arianna, retracted her right arm and surprise, a frontal pointing green-blue arrow made out of green-blue energy appeared above the reverse of her right hand, a similar phenomenon to what happened when Lyn used her affinity, adjusted for Claire’s “piercing” affinity of course.
“Wave Piercing Punch!”, with a fierce voice and an even fiercer right fist cladded in green-blue energy, Claire punched at Arianna who crossed her arms in front of her, now, Claire’s fist didn’t actually make contact with Arianna, because the frontal pressure created by her energy reached the werewolf girl before, sending Arianna flying into the distance.
Needless to say but the remains of the giant red wolf that were still in the vicinity, turned into red energy currents that flew in the same direction where Arianna was sent flying to, because the wolf couldn’t be too far from Arianna, just like Lyn had stated, despite it being made with mana, it’s structure was similar to that of a battle avatar, and so far the only exception to how battle avatars work that Daimon has seen, was the one of the Lamia queen, which could perfect and completely act separately from her.
Of course, Arianna’s “sacrifice” wasn’t going to be wasted by Lyn, she descended from above at high speed, sky-blue energy rings had appeared around her right leg, at her ankle, shin, knee and thigh to be more accurate.
“Seismic Step”, before Lyn even landed, the blue energy rings around her leg expanded and a huge shockwave descended upon Claire from above.
“Crack!”, as a result the ground below Claire instantly exploded, sending pieces of debris flying all over the place, what’s more the sudden impact actually forced her down, until she almost kneeled.
“Wave Piercing Punch!”, unable to instantly break out of the shockwave just with her body, Claire punched the ground in order to cancel the shockwave that was pressing down on her.
“Booom!”, her plan paid off, since she was able to move before Lyn finally landed, which was for the good, because a huge crater was formed the moment her right foot made contact with the ground.
However, there was a certain fierce little tiger girl whose body started radiating yellow electricity when Arianna was sent flying into the distance, who wasn’t going to let Claire go unscathed.
“Lightning Tail Whip”, Dana whose came out of a yellow flash that appeared at Claire’s right, lashed her tail at the enemy, only for Claire to punch in her direction, with the idea of making the lightning whip clash against her green-blue energy, in order to cancel it, or at least that’s what Claire wanted to do.
“Lightning Shredding Claw!”, with incredible agility, the little tiger girl changed the trajectory of her tail, to then twist her body midair using the momentum to slash her right hand at Claire out of nowhere.
Just like Lyn had stated, the amount of energy that the little tiger girl could gather in a single go became insanely high after she absorbed the strand from the tiger, so using two techniques in succession like this was not hard anymore.
But what truly made the difference was the speed at which she went from one to the other, which only proved that currently Dana was the fastest among those three, as Claire being taken by surprise because of the second attack that came the very moment she cancelled the first one, suggested.
“Aghh!”, just as the little tiger girl wanted, her attack drew blood, as in she managed to scratch Claire’s face from her nose all the way to her forehead, unfortunately only one of her claws reached Claire and she retreated the moment her claw made contact with what remained of Claire’s horn, because the impact made Dana’s claw hurt.
“Boooom!”, just as Dana flashed away to reunite with Lyn, Claire released a wave of black-green nether blasting away everything in the vicinity, in order to get a second to catch her breath, right there she nearly lost one of her eyes at the hands, or more accurately the claws of the little tiger girl after all, also the though slight, still noticeable cutting wound on her face, was burning as if salt was rubbed on an open wound.
The reason behind of the previous was simple, her energy was now more nether than the one of her original lineage, and so, direct exposition to the silver light that Daimon casted on Dana, caused her direct pain.
“That was for sister Arianna”, mumbled the little tiger girl as she appeared next to Lyn, who nodded in agreeance, only for Arianna herself to descend next to those two, the arm protectors she was using were full of cracks, and there was steam coming out of them, as a sign that she did suffer a wound but it was being recovered as we speak, to land next to them the next second.
“Don’t make it sound as if you were taking revenge for my death, that’s bad luck, you little girl”, said the werewolf girl to Dana, making Lyn chuckle.
“I did expect that to break a bone or two, though”, she said to which Arianna retorted.
“It did, those dam fists of hers are really heavy now thanks to a certain someone”, said Arianna, referring to the fact that Claire was copying Lyn’s ridiculously destructive punches.
“Humph, don’t compare that poor imitation to me, she just keeps patching on her flaws instead of solving them, those gauntlets are forcefully speeding the process so that she can go from long to close range, sure the result looks similar to the advanced form of my fighting style, but not only does hers comes with a price, but that’s also her limit and so, she will never be able to get to this level…”.
As Lyn finished her sentence a single blue energy ring the size of a human adult’s arm, formed behind of her, at the height of her upper back to be more accurate.
“Hey, is that what you were talking about?”, asked Arianna with a frown, to which Lyn casually shook her head as she answered.
“Nah, this half-state should suffice”, she said, which made Arianna’s eyes glow for a second, her hair, wolf ears and tail slowly dyed of a bright red color and soon the giant red wolf was back into the picture, perfectly surrounding the three of them.
