Chapter 255

“You ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍want me to help Eurasia conquer the Continent?”

“That ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍is correct.”

Marcelo ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍gave a hollow laugh at Yulian’s confident attitude.

“I ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍understand that the victor of a duel may demand the loser’s life as payment. Am I mistaken?”

Naturally, ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍it was a right he could claim.

But ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍raising the matter of conquering the Continent meant something else entirely. It was practically a declaration of war against Marcelo, who wielded actual power in Aquares and had forced the same demand upon them only a short while ago.

Had he been alone, Marcelo would never have given him such a pretext. But the situation had changed drastically once Levia intervened.

“Did you want the princess’s life over a paltry duel?”

“I did not know a knight of Aquares would dismiss a duel as a paltry game.”

Yulian replied with a mocking tone.

Since Marcelo was the person who had imprisoned him, Yulian had much resentment built up.

“Prince Yulian. It seems you have forgotten your own position.”

Ssssss.

Blue-green mana rose from Marcelo’s body.

Yulian’s face stiffened beneath the unconcealed presence of a Superhuman.

“Would you duel me as well?”

“I just fought a fierce duel with the princess.”

Yulian spoke in a trembling voice beneath the crushing pressure.

“If you can so much as land one sword strike upon me, I will not only grant your demand from earlier, but will also lend my full support when you ascend to the throne in the future.”

“...!!”

“What do you say? Will you become Eurasia’s Crown Prince and seek the conquest of the Continent alongside me?”

“That...”

Yulian’s voice wavered at the enticing terms.

If Aquares aided him, the competition for the throne would tilt heavily in his favor.

Moreover, Eurasia’s long-cherished goal of conquering the Empire was connected to the conquest of the Continent.

‘With my current strength, could I not at least try to land one attack? If I drink a recovery potion...’

Yulian did not have long to think.

“What about me?”

“...”

Yulian and Marcelo turned their eyes to Killian.

“A 5-star knights’ duel has ended, so should the next not be a duel between Superhumans?”

“A duel between Superhumans.”

The corner of Marcelo’s lips twitched.

He felt the urge to accept at once and exchange swords.

But he should not do so.

‘Killian Eurasia is a Superhuman who has mastered at least 7-star. He may even have the potential to reach 8-star.’

As Aquares’s greatest knight, Marcelo did not want to admit it, but defeat was possible.

It would be troublesome to increase the number of debts he owed again.

‘That Levia. To tangle matters up like this.’

Ever since she was young, she had followed him especially well. He had taught her the sword and helped her grow. But he had never imagined that, even after growing older, she would cast aside her responsibilities as royalty and devote herself to the sword. To think it would come back to him like this.

Still, he could not grant Julian Eurasia’s reckless request.

‘I intended to steer the negotiations to my advantage, but I did not expect such a backlash. It cannot have been the thought of foolish Julian Eurasia, so it seems I must negotiate with Killian Eurasia after all.’

Marcelo did not know why Killian Eurasia supported Julian Eurasia.

But one thing was certain.

‘I must join hands with Eurasia.’

If Eurasia had three knights like him—

‘No, if it had only two more, it would possess forces that surpassed Aquares.’

An equal ally was essential to fulfilling his ambition of conquering the Continent.

“Very well, Julian Eurasia. I will accept your demand.”

“Truly...?”

Swallowing his disappointment, Yulian asked with a doubtful expression.

“Yes. Let us postpone the duel between Superhumans until next time.”

Killian nodded at Marcelo’s lingering gaze.

“So, what exactly do you want?”

“...”

“Though I am the Crown Prince, I hope you understand that it will be difficult for me to grant unreasonable demands.”

It meant that they should make a proper demand for the sake of their relationship.

“What I want is...”

Yulian trailed off, then continued.

“After we form an alliance, send us to Eurasia.”

“If you mean the cave you said you visited, we are still searching for it even now. But we have found no such thing.”

“That cannot be!”

Yulian raised his voice.

“There is no need to worry. I do not disbelieve you entirely merely because your story is difficult to believe. Once a detailed treaty has been concluded, I will prepare the fastest ship that can return you to Eurasia.”

Even the fastest ship from the Ocean Current Nation would take years to reach the Continent.

Killian intervened in place of the despondent Yulian at that bleak answer.

“Then could you help us use a temple?”

“You mean the Temple of the Sea?”

The only temple in the Ocean Current Nation, which worshipped Neptune, the God of the Sea.

“You must know that you cannot reach the Continent using the temple’s Warp Gate?”

His response implied that Killian should know better than to make such a proposal.

“I intend to pray to the God.”

“...”

“If the Chief Priest prays sincerely, might a miracle not occur?”

“A miracle. That is unlike you.”

“Surely you do not intend to deny us even this?”

Marcelo shook his head.

“I am not so narrow-minded a man that I would prevent you from using a temple. But there is one problem.”

“A problem?”

“What problem is there now...?”

“We must use a ship to travel to the temple.”

Ignoring Yulian’s grumbling, Marcelo continued his explanation.

“Recently, the Telesas that inhabit the sea have grown stronger. We are preparing a subjugation operation at the kingdom level.”

Telesas, monsters of the deep sea.

It was a name Killian had never heard before.

“You probably would not know of them. It has not even been thirty years since they became a problem.”

“Then if we help subjugate them, you will allow us to visit the temple?”

“I would allow it even if you did not. But I would not refuse help from knights such as yourselves.”

Grin.

Marcelo’s lips curved.

Grin.

Killian did not hide his own characteristic smile either.

“For the first time, we understand each other.”

“Let us discuss the details over tea.”

Crown Prince Marcelo walked ahead with a hearty laugh, Killian walking beside him.

“...”

Watching them with a strange feeling, Yulian hurried after them.

***

The day after they had chatted in Crown Prince Marcelo’s reception room, the person Killian had been waiting for finally arrived.

“It has been a while.”

Killian spoke as he looked at Teruba, who had come to his room.

“You had been absent for so long that I thought you went on an expedition and died.”

“You need not be so sarcastic.”

Teruba sighed and sat before Killian.

“I heard that you will participate in the Telesa subjugation.”

“Word travels quickly.”

“Did I not tell you that I am responsible for educating the royal family?”

“Then Crown Prince Marcelo told you. And he told you not to contact me as well.”

“...”

Teruba answered with silence.

“His Highness the Crown Prince is one thing. But why did you accept such a proposal, Sir Killian?”

“To visit the temple.”

“But I told you that even if you visit the temple, you cannot use its Warp Gate.”

“You did.”

Teruba had told them while they rode in the carriage.

The temples of the Ocean Current Nation had lost Neptune’s blessing long ago after incurring the God’s anger.

Consequently, it was impossible to use the Warp Gates, the defining symbol of temples belonging to the Holy Nation.

‘If we cannot use the mountain cave, the temple’s Warp Gate is the possibility with the fastest return.’

Since Killian was also serving as Murus, the God of Barrier’s Apostle, he might be able to learn the circumstances.

Returning by ship was an option to choose only as a last resort.

‘Whether the problem is the God’s anger or something else, I can find out by going there in person.’

“Sir Killian. The danger posed by the Telesas cannot be compared to the Grizzledrak you fought before.”

Their superior species, Grand Telesas, were exceptional enough to rival Superhumans.

“And the being called their queen is highly likely to be comparable to an 8-star knight.”

“Highly likely?”

“Among Aquares’s Superhumans who are presumed to have encountered the queen, none has returned alive.”

Teruba said that they had lost five 7-star knights and mages so far.

‘So there was a reason Superhumans had been scarce for the mountain expedition.’

The land was teeming with monsters, and so was the sea. It made Crown Prince Marcelo’s ambition to conquer the Continent seem all the more remarkable.

“If it is a monster comparable to an 8-star knight, it should be classified as 9-star. Where did creatures like that suddenly come from?”

“They were not this formidable from the beginning.”

Their numbers had been low, and their danger level had not been high.

“They have achieved gradual growth, close to Evolution, alongside the history of the Ocean Current Nation.”

Teruba added that it had not even been thirty years since they had learned of the queen’s existence.

He warned that even the subjugation force led by Marcelo, the royal family’s strongest knight, had repeatedly failed, and that not a few subjugation forces had been sunk each time.

Moreover, they lived underwater.

“There is not much knights can do while guarding against mental attacks that use sound.”

As a biologist, Teruba told Killian what he knew about the Telesas.

“Is it because it concerns the Crown Prince? You are being proactive.”

“I am a man of this kingdom as well. I am telling you this because I hope no more blood will be shed.”

“Teruba.”

“Yes, is there anything else you are curious about?”

“What kind of person is Princess Levia?”

“...”

“Even Crown Prince Marcelo, who seems to hold actual power, could not treat her casually.”

“That is...”

Killian shrugged at Teruba’s troubled expression.

“Never mind. I did not expect much of an answer.”

“...I am sorry. But if you have any questions about the subjugation, please ask me at any time.”

‘Princess Levia is the key.’

As Teruba said, for now Killian needed to focus on the Telesa subjugation that was right before him.

***

“A ship.”

“A ship.”

Killian and Yulian stood still, looking up at the enormous sailing ship before them.

“Hahaha. It seems this is the first time either of you has ridden a ship.”

Teruba reacted as though he had found an amusing sight.

“We are the sort who climbs mountain ranges.”

“That is right.”

“The cultures of the Continental nations and the Ocean Current Nations differ in many ways.”

Teruba replied as though he understood Killian and Yulian’s remarks.

“It seems there would be much to exchange with Eurasia.”

“Enough joking. Are we traveling with two ships?”

There were two large sailing ships, each capable of carrying well over a hundred people.

They would carry numerous people, including knights, mages, archers, and sailors.

Fifty 2-star to 5-star knights and mages.

Ten 6-star knights and mages.

In addition, a hundred archers would board each sailing ship.

“We have split our greatest forces between the ships in case of an emergency.”

He said that six Superhumans would board the ship Crown Prince Marcelo was taking, while two Superhumans would accompany Killian’s ship.

“Our side seems short on Superhuman strength.”

“Haha... The placement of Superhuman-level forces is Crown Prince Marcelo’s order.”

Pretending he lacked the authority to answer, Teruba headed toward Marcelo’s sailing ship.

“They will be observing us.”

“Hmph, even if they have some scheme, so what? The kingdom’s greatest knight is on our side as well.”

“That is adorable. You have thoroughly memorized the measures against Telesas, have you not?”

“Of course!”

Yulian shouted confidently.

“Good. We should greet the captain as well, so let us board the ship now.”

“A battle aboard a ship! I am looking forward to it!”

Hahahahaha.

With an excited laugh, Yulian boarded the ship.

They encountered an unforeseen threat less than ten minutes after the voyage began.
