Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 1144 - 1144: Backup Plan

“Hey, Aidos. You still remember me, don’t you? Come out for a bit. We need to talk.”

Unlike the last time he was here, Evan’s words elicited an immediate response from ‘Aidos’, who appeared before him and spoke with narrowed eyes.

[How are you here?]

“That doesn’t matter right now. What matters is that my presence here is highly conditional, and I’ll be evicted if I don’t meet that condition.”

Meeting ‘her’ gaze, Evan spoke with certainty.

“And you’re going to help me meet that condition. It’s for your own good, after all.”

‘Aidos’ frowned at his tone, but Evan ignored it and lifted his hand, layers of reality parting to reveal the soul hovering above his palm.

“I want to reincarnate this soul into this world.”

[That’s a soul from another Underworld Subsector. What reason do I have to allow it into my Subsector?]

‘Aidos’ immediately recognised that the soul in Evan’s hand, Idrilla’s soul, was from another planet.

As for the term ‘she’ used—Underworld Subsector—it wasn’t anything complicated.

The Underworld Dimension was the Dimensional Plane of the Valmone Universe where the souls of the deceased who were claimed by the law of death went.

It was also where the Reincarnation Path that redistributed those souls was located.

Now then, the Reincarnation Path had once been described as a vast system of pipes that transported souls throughout the universe and its dimensions, and it had also been stated that these pipes could be larger or smaller depending on the world or galaxy’s level. (Chapter 1014)

That much still remained true.

Now then, each Galaxy had its own Sector of the Underworld Dimension, complete with its own set of ‘pipes’ transporting souls to its Planetary Subsectors.

Prime World Aidos had its own Subsector, as did the other planets of the Omicron Star System and every other Star System in the Orithyia Galaxy.

So naturally, ‘Aidos’ could tell that the soul Evan held was not from ‘her’ own Subsector, since all souls within ‘her’ Subsector carried distinctive marks only ‘she’ could detect.

Now then, back to ‘her’ question.

Why should ‘she’ allow Evan to reincarnate a soul from another planet?

“Simple. This soul is the basis of my backup plan for preventing the disaster I had you plant that World Tree for.”

Just as Evan mentioned the World Tree, ‘Aidos’ immediately clicked ‘her’ tongue and spoke with distaste.

[You lied to me.]

Evan didn’t need an explanation to know what she meant.

“Oh? About the World Tree? Did I really lie?

Your World Tree still exists. Not in its original state since an Iremith had to fuse with it to save it, but it surely still exists.”

[…]

‘Aidos’ narrowed ‘her’ gaze at Evan, who simply shrugged before steering the conversation back on track.

“Moving on, this soul is part of my backup plan, in case I miss the window for reversible annihilation.”

‘Aidos’ took a moment to search ‘her’ records for the fragments of Evan’s plan that he’d shared with her nearly 10,000, and ‘her’ expression turned neutral as she demanded.

[Explain how this soul can serve as a backup.]

“Simple. They’d store the souls of every sentient humanoid on the continent after the System Image has been created.”

Evan lifted his other hand and displayed a hologram showing Idrilla’s appraisal results, which had been saved in the RHS Archive from when he’d met her in the past, and upon seeing the data presented, ‘Aidos’ ran a short simulation within ‘her’ mind, confirming that the plan was indeed viable.

[Fine.]

“Good. Now, I’d like you to have her reincarnated into this country, with suitable circumstances that’ll keep her protected. You can give her blessings or titles that’ll ensure she doesn’t die within the next twenty years, until I can come find her.

I’ll handle the rest after that.”

Evan’s additional demands made ‘Aidos’ shake ‘her’ head.

[I cannot give preferential treatment to—]

“If it’s for the sake of your continued existence, you can,” Evan interrupted before ‘she’ could finish.

“Treat her like you would a Semi-Hero or something similar. Record your actions under those taken for Planetary Defence. I think the ‘Universe’ would allow that, wouldn’t it?”

[…]

‘Aidos’ fell silent again, eyes narrowing at Evan as ‘she’ wondered how he knew about this procedure.

After a brief pause, ‘she’ pieced it together and muttered.

[You. You’re Prisma’s Reincarnation, aren’t you?]

Evan’s brows rose slightly in surprise at her question, but he neither confirmed nor denied it, which to ‘Aidos’ was as good as agreement.

Leaving ‘her’ to interpret it however ‘she’ wished, Evan simply asked, “So? Can you handle the soul reincarnation?”

[I can.]

‘Aidos’ reached out to take the soul from Evan’s hand, but he pulled his hand back and extended the other as he spoke.

“Contract. I don’t do verbal agreements.”

[…]

The Planetary Consciousness stared at him flatly, but Evan kept his free hand extended until ‘Aidos’ finally sighed and created a Binding Contract.

◇ ◇ ◇

One Binding Contract and reincarnated soul later, Evan flew back to Tarse on the Alpha Continent, landing somewhere within the desert areas of the Zhosa Region.

He opened the RHS and began cross-checking Tarse’s map with the massive magic circle he planned to use as his last resort for the ‘Fall of the Desert Country’ Disaster, and upon noticing it, ‘Aidos’ asked.

[What is that for?]

“Another Threat’s Prevention,” Evan replied, closing the display before speeding off toward one of the nearby cities.

[That Magic Circle seems to cover this entire desert. Does the ‘Threat’ you speak of cover the entire desert too?]

“Nahh. The whole Alpha Continent.”

Evan activated Lethe and slipped into Wikmery City, quietly trading a few coins for several buckets of magic paint from a magic tool shop without the owner’s awareness, and made his way underground as he continued speaking.

“If you wish to deal with a Summoner from another World, Summon something from another Dimension—those are wise words quoted by enterprising men.”

Stopping in a wide empty space within the city’s drainage system that lay roughly below its centre, he turned to ‘Aidos’ and said,

“Don’t be surprised. I wrote them.”

Evan set the buckets of magic paint down and pulled out his roller brushes, and with a hologram of his target magic circle in his mind, he began rolling the paint across the floor and spreading it upward in sweeping arcs.

Since he would remain in this time period until Idrilla’s Soul was reincarnated into the womb of a pregnant mother somewhere in the Aelum Kingdom, he decided to make use of that time by setting things in place that would make his future tasks easier.

‘It’d also make it harder for Artemisia to figure out my plans. She’s the one most likely to notice, after all.’

Now then, it was clear that Evan intended to summon something extra-dimensional to handle the Fifth Finger’s Contracted Demon, Xolgren Agriker.

The magic circle spanning Tarse was simply that summoning circle, but since he’d left it incomplete, Artemisia and the others in the future couldn’t make much sense of it.

This was intentional, as there was no way Artemisia would allow him to carry out his plan if she understood what it truly was.

‘Aidos’, who watched him draw the circle, was no different.

But to begin with, how did Evan even come to possess knowledge of this magic circle when both ‘Aidos’ and Artemisia were unaware of it?

The answer was that he hadn’t actually ‘acquired’ it. He had, in truth, technically created it himself by combining several different magic circles that each had separate functions.

All of those circles he combined, however, originated from the Akashic Page, as did the method used to merge similar circles to produce a desired effect.

‘Basically, the magic circles are merged to create one massive country-wide magic circle using another magic circle.

Are you confused yet? Don’t worry, it gets worse.’

Ignoring his own confusing train of thought, Evan had discovered this combination while studying the Akashic Page to test out Pseudo-Versions of various World Magic spells.

The ‘Akashic Page’ is a mysterious and ancient Grimoire of unequalled significance.

Originally a ‘Page’ of the Valmone Universe’s ‘Akashic Record’— a naturally occurring nigh-omniscient Ç̴̦͍̟̗̰̦͓̦͖̭̑̋̑̊͆͛̈́͒̈́̎͛̅͝i̸͓̻̞̭̫͓̘̓́̓̑͆͑͋̊͌̈́͝m̸̡̜̤͖̖̔̈́̓͂͌̅͋͒̚s̶̢͔̠̫̲̳̩͓͎̻̫̱̣͒̀́̈́͜͜ǫ̶̢̣͓̦̝̮̤̱͉̥̟̍̐̽̓̇̍͛̂̽͐͆͆́̕͠ͅc̴̡̡̣̞͒͋̈́̄̋̈́̒̉͗̕͝ artifact that holds almost all information about the Valmone Universe from the instant the big bang that created it happened till the present moment—it holds within its pages a compendium of all energy spells that have ever existed on the Prime World of Aidos.

The spells within this artifact that have transcended time and space can be cast with the aid of every energy type that exists on the planet, regardless of its polarity or alignment.

…|

The spells didn’t have to originate from Aidos to be stored in the Akashic Page. As long as they’d been used on Aidos, they were recorded there.

That meant there were plenty of magic spells unknown to Artemisia, and even ‘Aidos’ didn’t know their effects since they’d never been completely cast.

Evan had noticed a few summoning spells used by people from other planets that called upon an existence with a familiar title, so when he next had the chance to speak with them, he mentioned his idea, and they agreed to it.

Now, before he was sent back to the future he came from, he went around drawing his magic circles to ensure his plan would succeed.

He started from Wikmery City and moved through four other locations before finishing in the Aneford Region’s former Regional Capital.

“The desertification got worse, huh?”

Evan muttered as he flew through the truly deserted streets, above the thick waves of sand that had risen over a metre high and seeped into the low windows of several buildings.

He headed straight for the City Lord’s mansion at the centre, entered the building, and moved around until he found the main banquet hall.

“Hmm… this space is wide enough. Time to get painting.”

Evan pulled out another bucket of paint and, with his brushes in hand, began drawing another magic circle across the floor.

[Evan.]

“Yes, ‘Aidos’?” he replied without looking up, and then ‘Aidos’ asked a rather important question.

[These magic circles are meant to combat a threat 20 years in the future, right?]

“Yes, they are.”

[Then do you really think they’d remain in good enough condition until then?]

At that, Evan finally paused and lifted his gaze to meet ‘hers’, one eyebrow raised as he asked,

“Just what do you take me for, ‘Aidos’? Of course, I know weathering exists.

I’ll use preservation spells on the magic circles to keep them in proper condition for when I eventually send my companions here.”

Evan returned to painting the circle, and as he worked, he added,

“Can you get a spirit here? A High-Rank one, preferably. I want them to serve as the caretaker for these circles I’m drawing.”
