Chapter 1145 - 1145: A Plan Within a Plan
“Can you get a spirit here? A High-Rank one, preferably. I want them to serve as the caretaker for these circles I’m drawing,” Evan asked.
[Caretaker?]
“Yeah. I have plenty of things spirits like, so I’d trade some of them for their help in monitoring these circles and renewing the preservation spells to keep them in working condition.”
‘Aidos’ nodded at Evan’s words, then glanced around before stopping as ‘she’ looked toward a certain direction.
Without a word, ‘she’ summoned the nearest High-Rank Spirit, who happened to be a Spirit of Earth, which was understandable given they were in a desert region.
Evan glanced up at the brown-skinned man who appeared surprised to have been summoned by ‘Aidos’, appraising him before speaking.
“Hello there, Eithwack. My name’s Evan Eris, and I have a proposal for you.”
He stood and moved to the far end of the banquet hall, dipped his brush into the paint, then knelt and began painting the ground while the spirit watched with mild confusion.
“I’d like you to act as both a caretaker and a messenger for me,” Evan said, picking up his roller brush.
“Naturally, you’d be fairly compensated.”
His Inventory opened, and Ethereal Essence Orbs, Luminescent Spirit Crystals, and Elixirs spilt out by the dozens, enough to make the Earth Spirit’s jaw nearly drop.
“Are you interested?” Evan asked, glancing up as Eithwack’s eyes slowly shifted from the Essence Orbs to him, his expression growing increasingly wary.
[…what do you want from me?]
Ethereal Essence Orbs could purify a spirit’s magic power, improving its quality and unlocking its hidden potential. These items also held the capability to raise the Spirit’s Rank if used properly.
Luminescent Spirit Crystals emitted radiant glows that temporarily strengthened nearby spirits, and the number of Crystals Evan possessed was enough to make the Level 700 Eithwack feel almost 15% stronger just by being near them.
It was only natural that he was cautious about what Evan intended to ask, but Evan, even while sensing his wariness, kept speaking in a relaxed tone.
“In about 20, 21 years, two girls will come here with the goal of doing what I’m doing now.”
Evan had already detailed who should go where in his ‘Back Up Plan’ recording, so if they listened to his recording, the two who would come here would be Laurene and Eliza.
“I want you to tell them that this place, along with five other locations across Tarse, already have their magic circles drawn, so they don’t need to waste time drawing new ones.
I’ll also give you the coordinates of the other five locations.”
Standing up, Evan placed his paint brushes aside, then lifted his hand and cast preservation magic over the magic circle he had just completed.
Of course, this Magic Circle Preservation Spell had been obtained from the Akashic Page, though he didn’t need to bring it out to cast it.
As his magic power spread across the hall, he began to speak.
“I am going to save Liz and Laurene the stress of having to draw these very complicated circles.
When they come here, just tell Laurene to check the circles in these locations with her eyes, confirm if they are still in working conditions and renew the preservation spell on them”
A moment later, realisation dawned, and he turned his gaze toward Eithwack.
“I’ll show you what the two of them look like if you agree to my terms.”
Evan then pulled a magic contract from his Inventory and clearly outlined his conditions, which seemed so simple to Eithwack that he couldn’t help but suspect Evan was hiding something.
Fortunately, ‘Aidos’ was there, so Evan used ‘her’ as a guarantor, and Eithwack eventually agreed to sign the contract.
Once that was done, Evan activated his Hologram Creation skill, projecting holograms of Laurene and Eliza, and he pointed toward Laurene as he spoke.
“She’s Laurene Hayes. Between the two, she’s the one you need to convince that you’re an ally, since she’d be very suspicious of you otherwise.”
[And how do you suppose I do that?] Eithwack asked.
Evan rubbed his chin in silence for a moment before replying. “Tell her something like ‘I bear no hostility towards you’. If you say that, she’ll understand that you’re not lying.”
Laurene possessed the Mystic Eyes of Truth, which allowed her to see through falsehoods, so Eithwack saying that would let her realise he wasn’t lying. After all, the contract between him and Evan clearly stated that he wasn’t allowed to harm them unless in self-defence.
Eithwack nodded quietly, and Evan then turned toward Eliza and began to speak.
“She’s Li—I mean, Eliza Lane, and I…”
Evan stopped mid-sentence, his eyes widening as an idea crossed his mind.
“I can use this!”
He immediately dismissed the hologram and opened his Inventory, searching through it until he found the pack of Communication Devices from Aramis, Gozon, and Denerth Prime that he’d brought from the past.
As he brought them out, ‘Aidos’, who had been analysing the magic circle he’d drawn, raised an eyebrow and asked,
[You have smartphones? And dozens of them, at that.]
“Yes, I do. I plan to reintroduce these guys to your inhabitants,” Evan replied as he picked one with low storage, tested its camera with a few short clips, and then turned to Eithwack.
“Alright, so I’m gonna record a video, and I want you to give this device to Li—Eliza when she comes here with Laurene. If Laurene shows up alone, then hand it to her and tell her to pass it to Li—Eliza.
Also, make sure you tell her that you’re not hostile and don’t wish to cause any harm to them in any way, directly or indirectly, otherwise she’d be suspicious as fuck.”
[Why do you keep tripping over your words?]
‘Aidos’ asked after noticing Evan repeatedly cutting himself off, and he replied in his usual tone.
“Nothing important. Just don’t want others using a certain nickname.”
Without explaining further, Evan placed the phone on a small table and propped it up with a few books. He opened the camera app and pressed the record button, but the device lagged for a moment, making Evan sigh quietly.
[What is the condition for your return to your time period?]
The sudden question from ‘Aidos’ made Evan turn toward her with a raised brow as he replied, “Why do you wanna know?”
[So I can know when you’re leaving. Why else?] ‘Aidos’ answered his question with one of ‘her’ own, and hearing that, Evan feigned sadness as he spoke.
“I haven’t even been here for a full day, and you already want me gone? Really, ‘Aidos’? After everything I’ve done for your sake?”
[I’ve yet to see the results of these supposed deeds you’ve done for ‘my’ sake. Until then, you’re still filed under: ‘arrogant brat from the future who appeared 10,000 years ago.’
Also, Evan, that phone is already recording.]
‘Her’ words pulled Evan’s focus back to the camera, and he quickly noticed the timer running in the corner.
“Oh, I forgot. But since it’s already recording, I might as well just go along with it.
Hello Liz! Nice to see you…wait, no. Nice for you to see me?”
Evan paused, unsure how to begin properly, then turned toward ‘Aidos’ and asked, “How do I make an intro for this kind of video?”
[How the hell am I supposed to know that?]
‘Aidos’ didn’t even know what kind of video he was trying to make in the first place, so it was understandable that ‘she’ had no idea how to make an intro for it.
Getting no help, Evan turned back to the camera with a shrug and went on speaking.
“Since ‘Aidos’ is no help, I’m just going to wing it.
Anyway, it’s Evan here, and I bet you’re confused as hell. Trust me, I was too. But don’t worry, there’s a perfectly logical explanation for all of this.
As for why I made this recording, it’s kind of like a reassurance video.”
He went on to say that he was completely fine after his 10,000-year trip down the timeline, explaining that he was currently in the Year 1034, a quick stop he made on his way back to the future.
Evan threw in a few jokes and teasing remarks, added some movie references he’d always wanted to use, and before ending the recording, he reminded them to stick to the plans he had left behind.
Just as he reached out to switch off the camera, the light reflecting off his engagement ring caught his attention, and he suddenly realised something, his lips curving into a wide smile.
“Oh, right! Liz—when I get back, we’ll start planning the wedding. See ya!”
With that, he ended the recording, picked up the phone and locked it. He spent a few moments thinking about what to use as the password before deciding on something only Eliza would know.
Turning to Eithwack, he held out the phone and said, “This is the message you’ll pass to Liz.”
He didn’t even bother correcting himself this time and simply continued speaking. “Tell her the password is something only she would know. The hint is ‘First Kiss’.”
As Eithwack collected the phone, Evan added, “I’ll use a preservation spell on it too, but occasionally charge it up with magic power.”
He explained how to operate the phone, and after that, he showed Eithwack the other locations where he had drawn magic circles, applying preservation magic on them under the watch of ‘Aidos’, who clearly had no intention of letting him move around unsupervised.
Once that was done, Evan took a moment to think about what else he could still do with his time.
Triffid was already growing on the second most concentrated energy hotspot on the Beta Continent, second only to the one where the World Tree in the Elven Empire fused with Lios Iremith rose, and he had reincarnated Idrilla’s soul and drawn as many magic circles across Tarse as he could.
He went over his plans and checked to see if he was missing anything, but even though there was something that appeared to be a glaring ‘flaw’ in his plan for the Wolf of the END, Evan didn’t address it.
To begin with, that ‘flaw’ was intentional. He wanted everyone to remember what happened during the window for reversible annihilation, after all.
That way, everyone would know exactly who it was that saved them all.
