Chapter 607: Chapter 463: Tipping Off
He had been walking confidently down the villa’s path, but when he saw two creatures—one black, one white—crouching in the yard ahead, he almost thought he’d been lured into a den of wolves.
’Why does that Thunder Element white tiger look so much like that legendary, long-extinct Divine Beast? And that giant wolf...’
’Isn’t that a pup from the War Wolf Clan? What is it doing living in human territory?’
He thought of the men from the other families lying in ambush outside and breathed a sigh of relief at his own foresight.
’It’s a good thing I didn’t join them. Otherwise, not only would it be uncertain if I could get a share of the Divine-level Space Fragment, but if I ended up on bad terms with the War Wolf Clan, my future would be more than just a life of constant terror.’
"Bring him in."
The man from the Thundersnow Temple wore a white robe trimmed with aquamarine. He looked elegant, if a little lean. His superpower gave his face a frosty cast, and his stern expression held a natural authority.
The moment he stepped inside, he saw a whole family glaring at him with faces full of rage, as if he were their sworn enemy. Their terrifying gazes looked like they wanted to devour him whole.
"So you’re that bird-man from the Thundersnow Clan?" Ethan Monroe glared at him, his face grim. "Was it you who killed my brother?"
The man from the Thundersnow Temple was stunned by the question, but he quickly recovered. "Are you referring to the man who was burned to death outside the city?"
Ethan Monroe’s eyes were bloodshot. "You knew, and you still have to ask?! Did you come here to turn yourself in and die?"
The man from the Thundersnow Temple’s expression darkened, but Lex Cross cut him off. "Old Monroe, he’s not the one who killed him."
The man from the Thundersnow Temple frowned at the speaker, his expression softening slightly. "It seems the rumors were true. Young Master of the Cross family, it has been a long time. I didn’t expect you to actually be alive."
Lex Cross nodded. "A War God expert from the Thundersnow Clan. To what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?"
The man from the Thundersnow Temple scanned the people around him, then noticed the Golden Crow lying respectfully in the yard outside. ’The Golden Crow’s submissive posture doesn’t seem forced,’ he thought. ’Could it have formed a contract with one of the humans here?’
’If that’s the case, then the purpose of my visit might have to change.’
"Young Master of the Cross family, I originally came only to ask for the return of a junior from my clan who was taken. I was wondering if you would allow him to come out and see me?"
Although he was a War God expert, the man from the Thundersnow Temple adopted an extremely humble posture.
He didn’t recognize most of the people here. But Lex Cross alone—a peak Cosmic Level expert on the verge of becoming an invincible War God, with the entire Cross family backing him—was enough to make him, a War God expert himself, hold his temper completely in check.
And with a white tiger, a Golden Crow, and an unbelievably powerful War Wolf pup outside, he didn’t know whose Contracted Beasts they were. He couldn’t risk offending any of them.
Lex Cross nodded, having no intention of hiding anything. Although the Thundersnow Clan could take human form, they weren’t like the Fire Tribe, which always insisted they were on par with humans.
While the Thundersnow Clan was one of the great families of the Ancient Star Nation, a portion of their members lived outside its borders. Some roamed through space, while others formed tribes in the outer territories.
Because of this, they weren’t opposed to their kin forming contracts with humans, provided that the human in question was powerful enough.
"Come out, Ye."
At Lex Cross’s summons, a pure white bird two or three times the size of a human appeared in the living room. The appearance of Lei Xueye startled the Nightmare Beast, which had been sleeping beside its little master.
The Nightmare Beast opened its mouth and spat a cloud of noxious black gas at Lei Xueye, which unexpectedly threw the massive bird into a sudden panic.
Seeing this, Flora Bloom immediately smacked the Nightmare Beast. "Stop making trouble! Go back to sleep with your master!"
The man from the Thundersnow Temple hadn’t noticed it when he first came in. He only registered its presence when the Nightmare Beast spat the black gas at Lei Xueye.
’What kind of organization have I stumbled into?’ he wondered. ’A Nightmare Beast... How could they possibly have a Nightmare Beast? With a Nightmare Beast in their possession, what force could possibly challenge the Cross family’s position in the Star Nation from now on?’
He tried to get a better look at the child lying on the Nightmare Beast’s back, but a beautiful woman moved to block his view.
"You’ve seen him. Now what? Does this descendant of your Thundersnow Clan want to go back?"
Flora Bloom’s tone was hostile, but the man from the Thundersnow Temple couldn’t, and wouldn’t dare, to respond in kind. "You must be the legendary Young Mistress Cross. It seems there’s been a misunderstanding. I didn’t come here to take this junior back with me."
The moment Lei Xueye saw the man from the Thundersnow Temple, its eyes filled with warmth and familiarity, but it had no desire to leave. Upon hearing that the man wasn’t here to take it away, it breathed a sigh of relief.
"Young Master Cross, everyone, I came to share some information with you."
"Speak."
"The major families of the Ancient Star Nation have already dispatched War God Level experts and their forces to lie in ambush outside Morhaven. Their objective is most likely the Divine-level Space Fragment. I urge you all to be cautious."
Flora Bloom was shocked by this news. She hadn’t expected the forces from the Ancient Star Nation to have already reached the outskirts of Morhaven so quickly.
