Chapter 518 - 433: "Water of Life" Returns
Chapter 518: Chapter 433: "Water of Life" Returns
To quickly equip Morhaven’s Water Ability Users with the defensive power to withstand attacks—or at the very least, to protect themselves—
Flora Bloom was working from dawn till dusk, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted. During this time, Polly stayed with Jade, even sleeping over at night.
Every night, Flora Bloom would come home, wash up, and fall asleep the moment she touched her bed. When she woke in the morning, the depression in the mattress beside her showed that someone had been there, but he was always long gone.
For three days straight, Flora Bloom hadn’t seen Lex Cross.
So that night, Flora Bloom came home and tried to wait up for Lex Cross in their room. She groggily saw him return before drifting off again.
In her half-asleep state, she vaguely sensed a stench of rot coming from him. She wrinkled her nose, burrowed deeper into the covers, and went back to sleep.
But she wasn’t sound asleep. When Lex Cross got out of the shower and the mattress dipped beside her, her eyes fluttered open.
"You’re back?"
"Mm."
Flora twitched her nose, leaned closer to Lex Cross, and sniffed. "Are you hurt?"
The faint scent of blood stung her nostrils, jolting her wide awake.
"It’s nothing. Just a scratch."
Given Lex Cross’s power, whatever had managed to injure him was definitely no pushover. Anxious, Flora tried to see where he was hurt, but he caught her frantic hands.
"Hold still. It’s on my back." His deeply tanned face betrayed no hint of paleness, but he alone knew he’d lost too much blood. "The spiritual water tank downstairs is empty, otherwise this little wound would’ve healed already."
Seeing that Lex Cross had no intention of letting her see the wound, Flora fixed him with a serious expression. "Take your clothes off!"
Lex Cross froze. Other than the woman before him, no one else dared to speak to him in such a commanding tone.
Besides, the phrase ’take your clothes off’ was rather suggestive, especially in the dead of night...
"Flora..."
Flora’s eyes widened in a glare. "Cut the crap!" Not waiting for him to comply, her hands, in a gesture that seemed rough but was in fact meticulously careful, pulled aside the fabric on his back and gently lifted it.
Three gashes, not terribly deep but with the flesh torn open, were clearly not inflicted by any human. Judging by the marks, they looked like the scratches of a wild beast, or perhaps a zombie.
"What kind of beast or zombie could do this to you?"
As she spoke, Flora handed the spiritual water to Lex Cross, then used her Water Ability to cleanse the slightly festering wounds on his back.
Soon, the wounds scabbed over and healed, vanishing without a trace.
Watching the injuries disappear, Flora breathed a sigh of relief. She reached to pull his shirt back down, but her hand found nothing to grab.
In one smooth, practiced motion, Lex Cross had pulled the shirt completely off over his head and turned to face her.
Flora jumped, startled by his sudden proximity. His handsome face was inches from hers, his eyes as deep as whirlpools. An overwhelming, masculine energy filled the room, charging the air with intimacy.
"Wh-why did you take your shirt off?!"
"You told me to!"
"I only said that to treat your wound! It’s not an excuse for you to be a pervert!" Flora’s eyes were wide with indignation, but her gaze couldn’t help but drift downward.
’This is just blatant seduction!’
"Flora..."
The night was late, the air heavy with dew. To her surprise, Flora detected a hint of a wheedle in the voice of this man whose face remained as stoic as ever.
"..."
"Polly’s already over a year old..."
"Shameless..."
"And Polly isn’t here..."
"..." Even though a scene like this, on a night like this, should have made her blush with a racing heart, Flora couldn’t stifle a yawn.
"..."
Seeing Lex Cross’s expression darken, Flora gave an awkward smile and planted a quick, loud kiss on his cheek. "I’m a little tired today. And you... you’re injured, too. Let’s get some sleep."
"..."
"We have... plenty of time..."
If she had just kept quiet it might have been fine, but the mention of "plenty of time" made Lex Cross’s face darken even further. He watched as she snuggled under the covers and closed her eyes, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
"And I was a fool to believe your ’plenty of time’!"
However, what really made Lex Cross grind his teeth was the sound of steady, even breathing coming from right beside him...
When she woke up the next morning, Lex Cross was already gone. Flora couldn’t quite put her finger on the feeling—disappointment, perhaps—as she got out of bed.
However, as she was heading out, she ran into Cynthia Grant and a few others on their way to train. They suddenly looked at her, stifling smiles. Irvin Holden even covered his mouth, turned his head, and let out an awkward cough.
At first, she had no idea what was going on. Then Maeve Preston pulled her aside and whispered a few words in her ear, and Flora’s face flushed crimson all the way down to her neck.
