Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 693 - 689: The Princess’s Bedroom
Shawn Lane frowned at the sight of her in slippers and pajamas. He dodged her question, saying, "You’ll catch a cold dressed like that. Go back and get changed. I’ll wait for you."
"I’m fine." Kylie Churchill stared at Shawn Lane. "I asked you a question. You didn’t send me a single message all morning, and now you suddenly show up?"
"It’s more of a surprise this way!" Shawn Lane said.
Kylie Churchill was completely charmed, her face instantly flushing with a shy yet blissful expression.
"Listen to me. Go on back and get changed. I’ll wait. I’ll take you out for something nice to eat today."
At his words, Kylie Churchill grabbed Shawn Lane’s hand and pulled him toward the house. "Then you should come in with me. It’s too cold out here."
"Is this a good time?"
"Of course. My mom knows it’s you, and it’s not like you don’t know my dad."
The Churchill family’s villa wasn’t like some modern luxury home. It was an old-style Western mansion, refurbished after many years, and the entire estate exuded a profound sense of heritage. This was especially true when it was cloaked in winter snow, which gave it a unique charm.
Few such old-style mansions remained in Downtown Lorcain, and any that were still well-preserved were astronomically expensive and rarely, if ever, on the market.
This offered a glimpse into the Churchill family’s standing.
Upon entering the villa, Mrs. Churchill immediately came forward to greet them. "You must be cold. I told you to dress properly, but you never listen."
Only after she finished speaking did she raise her eyes to Shawn Lane. Mrs. Churchill smiled warmly. "You must be Shawn Lane, right?"
"Hello, Mrs. Churchill. I’m Shawn Lane," he replied politely.
Mrs. Churchill nodded, quickly sizing Shawn Lane up. A look of satisfaction filled her eyes. "Come in and warm up."
After changing his shoes, Shawn Lane walked into the living room and was surprised to find Hugo Churchill at home.
"Shawn Lane, you’re here." Hugo Churchill, who was sitting on the living room sofa reading a newspaper, was the first to speak when he saw him.
Shawn Lane hurriedly adopted a respectful tone. "Hello, Mr. Churchill. Aren’t you at the office today?"
"It’s rare to have a free morning. I’ll head over in a bit."
"Shawn Lane, don’t mind them. Come upstairs with me." Kylie Churchill grabbed Shawn Lane’s hand and started to lead him upstairs.
But Shawn Lane didn’t move. "Kylie, you go on up. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to go."
"What’s not appropriate? It’s not like we’re going to do anything!" Kylie Churchill tugged his arm again. "Let’s go!"
Shawn Lane hesitated. Seeing that Mr. and Mrs. Churchill didn’t say anything, he followed Kylie Churchill upstairs.
It wasn’t until the two had disappeared around the bend in the staircase that Mrs. Churchill turned to her husband and asked cautiously, "Is it really alright for her to take a boy to her room on his first visit?"
But Hugo Churchill just smiled nonchalantly. "Don’t worry. Kylie knows her limits, and Shawn Lane even more so. Besides, so what if something did happen? Our daughter’s an adult. Isn’t holding hands, kissing, and hugging normal when you’re dating? Why, back in our day, we were in that little grove of trees..."
"Hey! Why are you bringing that up all of a sudden!" Mrs. Churchill shot her husband an exasperated but fond glare. "You’re shameless! That was ages ago, why are you even mentioning it!"
"I was just saying we were about our daughter’s age back then, and times were even more conservative."
Mrs. Churchill sat down on the sofa, her eyes darting upstairs from time to time. "This is the first time I’ve seen this Shawn Lane in person. He’s certainly handsome."
"When it comes to our daughter’s love life, we as parents should interfere as little as possible. Whether he’s a good match or not isn’t what matters. What’s most important is that our daughter likes him."
"You just go on and spoil her!"
This was the first time Shawn Lane had ever been in the bedroom of a girl his own age. The moment he stepped inside, a sweet fragrance filled the air.
His eyes were met with vast swathes of pink, red, purple, and blue. It looked like a Disney princess’s room.
"Make yourself at home. I’m going to go wash up and get changed."
With those words, Kylie Churchill disappeared into the en-suite washroom, which connected to her large and lavish walk-in closet. The entire space was exceptionally dream-like.
Off to the side was a giraffe figurine that was actually a stool. After confirming it was sturdy enough to sit on, Shawn Lane sat down on the giraffe’s back.
He glanced around at the dream-like surroundings, feeling as if this scene alone was a perfect reflection of Kylie Churchill’s personality and tastes.
A sudden wave of disgust washed over Shawn Lane. He retracted his gaze, lowering his eyes to hide the emotion within them.
At the same time, Cecilia Sterling was also sitting in a princess’s bedroom.
"Darling, what about this one?"
"And this one! With that little Chanel jacket, and the Hermes bag you got me for the New Year, wouldn’t that be a perfect match?"
"Oh, right! I also bought a pair of Dior shoes. They’re gorgeous. Let me try them on for you."
Flitting about like a butterfly, Estelle Goodman turned her walk-in closet upside down as she modeled more than a dozen different outfits for Cecilia Sterling as if on a runway.
Cecilia Sterling’s head was spinning, and she quickly put a stop to it. "My goodness, it’s someone else’s birthday, not yours. And Audrey is getting married..."
"Tsk!" Estelle Goodman’s eyes widened. "So what? Me dressing up all nice brings my friend honor, doesn’t it? Besides, I’ve been to too many of these things. No one cares who the host is. Everyone goes all out to show off. I know these frenemies of mine all too well."
Cecilia Sterling shook her head in resignation. "How much longer are you going to be? I really need to go see Emeric Grant."
"To the hospital?"
"To his place," Cecilia Sterling said seriously.
Estelle Goodman immediately rolled her eyes. "Girl, it’s still morning! Have you two no shame? The second he gets a day off, you’re going at it day and night?"
"Mind your own business." Cecilia Sterling stood up to leave, but not without a parting reminder. "Don’t forget you have your beginner’s go-karting license test this afternoon."
"Wait a second." Estelle Goodman grabbed Cecilia Sterling, reminding her in turn, "Yvette said you have to go too."
Yvette was Estelle’s friend whose birthday was coming up. Through Estelle, Cecilia Sterling had met her a few times, so they were acquainted, but certainly not close.
Yvette had only taken the initiative to add her and try to become friends after seeing that Cecilia Sterling was well-off. Cecilia was well aware of this.
"I don’t even know her that well. If I go, I’ll have to get her a gift, won’t I?" Cecilia Sterling clearly didn’t want to go.
"I’ll get the gift. Just come with me to keep me company," Estelle Goodman said, shaking her arm with a pleading look on her face.
Cecilia Sterling sighed softly and finally nodded.
Meanwhile, Kylie Churchill was sitting in Shawn Lane’s car, head bowed as she fiddled with her phone. After a long moment, she looked up at him. "Shawn Lane, my friend’s birthday is in two days. Can you come with me?"
Shawn Lane kept his eyes on the road. When he heard her, he asked casually, "Is your friend a guy or a girl?"
Kylie Churchill couldn’t help but laugh at his question. "A girl, of course. I wouldn’t go to a guy’s party."
