Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 630 - 626: Dr. Grant’s Girlfriend
Cecilia Sterling remembered that woman.
"Didn’t she even make a cheongsam for you by hand?"
Jasmine Sterling smiled and nodded. "Yes, she’s a fashion designer."
As she spoke, she stood up. "I thought you and Lily wouldn’t be up so early, so I only made this one bowl. I’ll go make another one for you."
"I’ll do it myself. You go back to your newspaper." Cecilia Sterling gently pushed her mother back down and headed to the kitchen.
After breakfast, Cecilia Sterling took Yoda for a walk, then washed up and put on her makeup. By the time she checked the clock, it was already ten in the morning.
A text message notification reminded her that in just the last three hours, her phone had automatically blocked 72 calls. Including the ones that got through and she had to hang up on herself, there had been nearly a hundred.
’This is the power of money.’ What she now possessed was something no one would have given a second glance years ago. But now, it had become a hot commodity, and everyone was scrambling to get a piece of it.
Lane Group.
Chairman’s Office.
Walter Lane flipped through the documents in his hands, finally looking up. "Is this all?"
Manager Warner nodded. "Yes, Chairman. A total of twelve properties. That’s quite a few, actually. Sunstone District is large, but we weren’t the first to get the news. As you know, by the time we made our move, many of the best locations had already been bought."
Walter Lane’s expression was grim. He was naturally dissatisfied with this result, but what pained him most was losing Genesis Park.
"Go cast a wider net. See if you can acquire a few more. Even though the prices are much higher now than before, we can still turn a profit when we sell later."
"Yes, I’ll do my best." Manager Warner carefully gathered the documents and, seeing the chairman had nothing more to say, backed out of the office.
Walter Lane sat in his executive chair, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the desk, seemingly lost in thought. Suddenly, a video ringtone blared, making him frown in annoyance.
He answered the call. On the other end, a dim room was lit only by a bedside lamp, a stark contrast to Walter Lane’s bright, airy office. They were clearly in two different time zones.
"Honey, I want to come back to the country!"
Mrs. Lane said, her face full of grievance and her tone wheedling.
"You missed your son, so I let you go abroad to accompany him and take care of him. Why are you clamoring to come back now? Weren’t you just spending your days idly on beauty treatments and shopping when you were home?" Walter Lane walked to the floor-to-ceiling window with his phone, his heart hardening as he remembered the absurd things his wife had done.
"I can’t get used to the food, and I can’t sleep well. I don’t speak English, and our son is rarely home. I’m going to get sick from being cooped up like this!" Mrs. Lane’s tone grew irritable. "How is this any different from exiling me?"
Walter Lane said impatiently, "I have a lot on my plate right now. Something big happened in Lorcain yesterday. Don’t come back and cause trouble for me. Just behave and stay with our son. Chinese New Year is in two months. You can both come back then."
Before Mrs. Lane could say another word, Walter Lane hung up the video call.
「Second Military Hospital.」
Cecilia Sterling was sitting outside the nurses’ station in the obstetrics and gynecology inpatient department, waiting for Emeric Grant to finish his morning shift so they could have lunch together.
Two young nurses at the station’s front desk kept stealing glances at her, unable to resist whispering to each other.
"That’s her, right?"
"Yep, that’s her. Dr. Grant’s lock screen is a picture of him kissing her."
"Tsk, tsk. Dr. Grant is always so cool and aloof. Who would’ve thought you’d one day see a picture of him kissing a girl on his phone?"
"Goes to show you, being pretty has its perks. Her sister-in-law has a baby here, and she gets to snatch up our hospital heartthrob."
"What are you two whispering about?"
Just then, the head nurse walked over. Her expression was a little frosty as she looked at the two young nurses. "Act like you’re at work. It’s the end of the month. Have you finished organizing this month’s forms?"
The two of them shook their heads in unison, their mouths clamped shut.
The head nurse put down the things in her hand and turned to walk toward Cecilia Sterling. Sensing someone approaching, Cecilia instinctively looked up.
"Miss, you must be Dr. Grant’s girlfriend, right?"
The head nurse was in uniform. Cecilia Sterling politely stood up, smiled, and nodded. "Yes."
"Dr. Sanders isn’t in today, so Dr. Grant had some extra morning rounds. You might have to wait a little longer. Why don’t I take you to his office to wait?" the head nurse said in a gentle tone.
Cecilia Sterling glanced around and asked uncertainly, "Uh, is that okay?"
She was worried it might be against the rules and cause trouble for Emeric Grant.
"It’s fine. Come with me."
Cecilia Sterling quickly thanked her, grabbed her bag, and followed.
This wasn’t the first time she had been to Emeric Grant’s office, but it was the first time she was there alone. After the head nurse left, she looked around curiously, taking everything in without touching anything.
His desk was very tidy, not cluttered with messy documents. Aside from his computer, there was only a pen holder, a telephone, a box of wet wipes and tissues, and a photo frame.
The frame held the photo of her and Emeric Grant taken when they went to see the autumn leaves at Mount Emberglow. He had just put it out on display at his workstation, bold as anything.
Cecilia Sterling smiled knowingly. She pulled out a tissue, wiped the glass of the frame, and then straightened it slightly.
She sat down in his chair. Maybe it was just her imagination, but she could faintly smell the pine-like scent that clung to Emeric Grant. Or perhaps it was because the harassing phone calls had disturbed her sleep that morning, but as Cecilia leaned back, she drifted off.
She didn’t know how long she’d napped, but she slowly opened her eyes when a gentle kiss landed on her forehead. The first thing she saw was Emeric Grant’s handsome face.
His eyes were soft and held a smile. Seeing her awake, he gently kissed her on the lips. "Tired of waiting?"
"No, I was just woken up too early this morning." Cecilia Sterling sat up straight, rubbing her face lightly. "What time is it?"
"Almost twelve. Come on, I’ll take you to lunch."
They walked out of the office hand in hand and ran right into several doctors and nurses from the OB/GYN department. Everyone’s eyes instinctively fell to their intertwined fingers as they greeted Emeric Grant with cheerful smiles.
The older ones would ask, "Is this your girlfriend?"
And Emeric Grant would openly nod and confirm it every time.
"Dr. Grant! Dr. Grant!"
Just as the two of them got downstairs and were about to leave, a young nurse came rushing after them, calling out his name.
"What is it?" Emeric Grant stopped and asked.
The nurse, panting and anxious, said, "The patient in bed 9 has suddenly gone into labor!"
Emeric Grant was very familiar with the condition of all the expectant mothers under his care. He was a little surprised but remained calm. "Isn’t the patient in bed 9’s due date next week?"
As he spoke, he turned to look at Cecilia Sterling. "Cecilia..."
"Go on." Cecilia Sterling gave him a reassuring smile and said softly, "I’m not hungry yet. I can wait for you."
Emeric Grant nodded. He didn’t say anything more, just, "I’ll go check on the situation. If I really can’t get away, don’t wait for me. Just head home first."
